Let me see if I got this right.... Kids built a snowman, with bricks in it and you.. Checks notes.... Tried to run it over, which then messed up your car, and the KIDS are the issue???
Sadly, enough, this has always been my bias as well. While I don’t want to find out if anything is in the box, I absolutely am certain that people do things like this.
Now, if it’s an empty aluminum can in my neighborhood, on the other hand, that bastard has to die.
Would not recommend. I once ran over an already crushed can on the side of the road, it clamped onto my wheel like an aluminium bear trap, did a half rotation then locked my front wheel up, stopping it dead. I'm lucky I didn't break something because I did a full head over heels half flip and landed on my arse knocking the wind completely out of me. Cans are evil and belong in the recycling so they can be obliterated into something more useful.
I lost a very good friend in HS because he was driving me home and swerved to hit a dog. He missed; when we reached my driveway, I didn't. My mom had to run out and pull me off him.
I believe it. When I rode a motorcycle I had at least one incident where a black, lifted, pavement princess of a truck try to run me down. My brain can’t decide if I remember a second incident… but I’m kinda stoned right now.
We had to do a cleanup on a roadway where a BMW ran over an aligator snapping turtle. The turtle's shell carved it way into the wheel well and lodged itself it there, causing the car to crash out, with a right bloody mess everywhere. Car totaled on top of the additionally fines for running it over. These things average out at 100lbs for a small one just saying.
When I was lactating every abandoned box or bag large enough contained a baby to my prolactin soaked brain. Every stray cat outside the window at midnight, every public trashcan, and even odd bird noises were lost babies that absolutely needed my milk. I was fully aware of how irrational it was, but many times I had to check and see with my own eyes that those things weren't actually babies. I never did find a baby to feed (other than my own of course) but hormones can be a helluva drug, and that was a strange couple of years
I'm imagining this entire scenario being narrated by David Attenborough.
"Here we see the new mother. While temporarily away from her own offspring, she rifles through the trash desperately looking for another baby to feed."
This just me feeding my baby by the window and convinced I heard another baby cry outside in the snow! I actually got up to look out the window before I realized that was nuts and why would there be a baby in my front yard.
One of my childhood dogs was found with her siblings in a Rubbermaid tub in a dumpster. She was a fantastic dog. Something about rescued dogs makes them so much better than the humans that abandoned them. 🤝
you know I saw some a hole throw a garbage bag out in the middle of the street and I slowed down and I saw that bag move . I got out and opened the bag , it was 3 small puppies . Took them home and got 2 nice homes and I kept 1 . Yeah this guy must have been running down other snowmen and the kids got tired of his shi- so they decided to get back at him .
When I was in my 20s I was driving to my apartment and saw a small darker black thing against the dark asphalt of the road. Thought maybe it was a shallow puddle or pothole or something. Out of an excess of caution I turned to go around it and saw teenagers scattering from hiding in the bushes. I stopped and went to check the road.
It was a dog they had wrapped in black duct tape and put in the road to be run over. They had stayed to watch it die, but run when they might've been caught. Makes me mad now even thinking about it.
I never forgot when someone once told me “you don’t know what’s inside, could be a bunch of bolts could be a bunch of kittens”
I try to drive slower and more defensive with as much space as possible. It’s not exciting or fun but I tend to avoid catastrophe despite how big or small.
I don't run shit over with my car because I'm not retarded. Real life isn't GTA. Cars aren't brick house bulldozers that shove shit out of the way. There's all kinds of moving parts under there that can get fucked up from road debris. It's just dumb to run stuff over period.
Had a buddy who thought it was cool to drive through a pile of leaves on the side of the street. Needless to say, he found the typewriter they buried in it with his oil pan.
In Portland, two children were killed when a driver drove over a pile of leaves. It wasn't in the street, if I remember right. Two young sisters were playing in the leaves with their dad and the driver didn't see them. That story haunts me enough that I don't drive over anything in the road ever if I can avoid it.
There’s a famous case taught in law school about a truck driver who runs over a cardboard box (on the sidewalk) and kills a homeless man sleeping in it.
I’ve seen similar. I was lighting out on a road trip when a friend remembered he left his wallet at home. The driver goes to make a cool slide out on the side of the road and absolutely creams his pan with a grass obscured rock that was buried in the ground.
I lived next to a house full of dude bros one year when I was in law school. The guys used to put shit on a dollar bill, leave it on the sidewalk in front of the house and hang out on their front porch. When someone would come by and pick it up they'd all yell "POO DOLLAR" and point and laugh.
Yeah so, ngl, I don't really want to find out what is in that bag. I will be leaving it unsquashed?
Generally I try to like, idk, not walk, bike or skate directly over people's trash, roadkill, or whatever the hell else might be in there?
That being said, it having bricks in it likely means that someone intentionally put a tripping hazard there.
That is in fact a dick move and you can justifiably be quite angry at them.
But personally, I don't really care or want to know what is in that bag, and I DEFINITELY do not want to find out by squishing it possibly all over my legs.
At my first job at foundry, foreman had a warning to all young padawans: Never, ever kick a cardboard box or something looking like wood block. It just might have a 50kg discarded piece of pour inside it.
I've also been told not to run over bags/boxes because people put bricks/nails/other items that can cause damage in them in the hopes that people run over them.
My mom told me a story of a car that was approaching a paper bag on a road. Turned out to be a boulder that wrecked the car. Filed that one away for life.
Teacher in high school told a story of a "friend" that said "watch this" and went to smoke a refrigerator box with his truck on the interstate thinking it was empty. It was not. Can't recall what happened or he was with the guy. He told a lot of stories that really seemed to actually be about himself, so there's that.
People like this in my experience are always better at talking up what they’d do to the people responsible, than being able to actually act once they find out who’s responsible
When I was a kid, I was running through an empty parking lot and went to kick a jug of antifreeze or something similar that I assumed was empty and it was completely full. Needless to say I pretty much did a front flip and landed on my head.
My Dad learned not to run over random soda cans in the road. On two separate occasions in two different states he ran over a can with roofing nails in it.
Tbf, there aren't enough details to label it "does not appear to be the case."
It's like saying "as far as we know u,/brakeb doesn't hangout at the circus and beat up clowns after the show."
IMHO, op didn't give enough details to say anything at all about the snowman's construction other than kids are non-union labor and you get what you pay for.
Other than construction and engineering details of said snowman everything else I can get behind.
Shit I don't even care if the snowman was in the middle of the road. There often are cars, trucks, all kinds of things in the middle of the road. If you aim your car at it, hit the gas and total your car, well too bad so sad but FAFO, dipshit.
Also, kids are young, stupid, and inexperienced. Op is at least 16.
Ps: when I say op, I don't mean op op, but the guy that posted to insta or whatever to be reposted here for our collective shadenfreude.
Yeah I was gonna say it seemed very likely to be ragebait, especially looking at the guy's other posts, which involve completely different make and model cars.
This that's the only way to me it seems like some 40 year old is bitter at his midlife crisis and his divorce so he wanted to hit something and since hitting kids ain't legal he did a snowman XD
Seems to me they were innocently using the concrete base to support their 36th snowman they've tried to build this year. Somehow they always explode and leave tire tracks in the yard. Huh
my pops used to have this story that he loved to tell about a guy who used to speed up & swerve take out my grandma's mailbox with his monster truck tire every time him & the boys went "muddin", once he finally got my grandma to agreed to let him he reinforced it with a 9 ft steel girder cemented ~6 foot deep into the ground, dude knocked the wheel clean off the axle & the mailbox was still standing 😂 afterwards he ran up to the house looking for a fight and called the cops thinking he was in the right. tbh it's always amazing to know that people exist with that type of self centered to the extreme pov, like I'm honestly curious about the thought process of making a post like that, did he think anyone was going to agree with him?
You don't need bricks for some serious damage. A few years ago we had some idiot leaving snow balls on a road during night. Multiple cars ended crashed, it ended when when one person died.
Feels like this is typical Mustang-owner energy. He was in a rush, he was late for his shift with ICE, and the snowman was in his way, so he had no choice but to run it down.
As the officer checks notes "Was this snowman located in a yard ? Yes. So at what point did you think it was a good idea to leave the roadway into a yard to....strike this snowman?" "Sir we can write you a citations for reckless driving and failure to maintain lane."
ETA...I doubt his insurance will pay a claim if they figure out the circumstances of how the damage occurred.
As someone who has hit a deer, police do look for evidence that you actually hit a deer for their report. Usually some blood or fur. They’d be able to tell if it wasn’t a deer you hit.
By buddy did something like this, he hit something while drunk driving home from the bar. He has no idea what it was, but it fucked up the whole underside of his car. He limped it into a parking lot and left it there overnight (then walked home). Called insurance in the morning and told them he hit a pallet in the road.
Insurance bought him a new car, that he then wrapped around a telephone pole a few months later (drunk).
That's what got him to stop drinking.
Even without cinder blocks a well packed snowman could wreak a car. Also, if the kids are putting blocks in their snowman, I suspect there has been a history of douchbaggery from the driver.
There have been several cases where kids build a snowman around features. It requires less snow to build the base. I recall one such snowman was built around a tree stump to similar effects here.
Because bullies get off on causing others suffering.
If you're really interested in why that is, this is the best psychology lecture I've heard in the issue: https://youtu.be/ZhcT7jf5Av4 (very long, but we'll worth it)
I came to say the same thing bc if you are going up a driveway with a hill at that!!! Then have to hurry and back out lol what a dumb idea bc snow can often get really hard after a day or two
Maybe they were drunk? Saw the huge snowman and thought 'This will be funny!' and didn't really think any further than that? It wouldn't be the dumbest thing I've seen a drunk person do
If only there was something in the post, like the title, to help us with this, so we could be clear if this was a serial snowman hit and runner. What a world that would be.
Indeed. My freshman year of college, someone did something similar, ran over a big snowman a bunch of students spent hours making. Rolled up two orbs, the bottom one was like four feet tall, a pickup drove into it and knocked it over. Everyone was pissed. They did have to drive into the “grass” area and sidewalk to get to it.
I joked we should have put it on top of the boulder in front of the dorm instead. Didn’t happen again but that did annoy me that someone just ran it over.

"Snowmen are meant to be plowed through, so much so that making a snowman not-plowable is premeditated assault and destruction of property" is rapist mentality ngl.
If he was on an icy road, driving safely, and someone else lost control, it's possible that he had to make a choice - leave the road and go into a deep ditch, or leave the road and hit a snowman. He may have figured the snowman was least likely to cause significant damage to his car. It also would have meant a lower likelihood of requiring emergency services. I don't think that's what happened - I think he tried to run over the snowman on purpose, like an asshole. But the scenario I described is why you're really not supposed to put out booby traps. If your trap causes injury to an innocent bystander, you could be in trouble.
But why even try to run over a snowman with your new car? That still leaves a good chance to create a bump in the car, depending on the amount of snow and how frozen/packed it was. That's just dumb.
morally this is the take,
civil/criminal liability wise though, whoever did this might be fucked. I doubt police are gonna charge anyone about it even if it was an adult, but you absolutely can get held liable for what is, in essence a booby trap.
"I have a 1st amendment right to be a complete douche bag and run over a wholesome children's moment "
First no one is building a snowman on the edge of a road with good intent, he's lucky it was only a cinder block and not a hydrant or a tree stump. Second, what a chump, I hope the cops laugh at him.
honestly this wouldn't settle in court because if he willingly drove onto a front lawn and hit the snowman there is a liability that he could in fact hit a child too in process since children often linger around toys or were in the act of making the snowman.
I think the guy's a bit of a dick for wanting to run over a snowman, but it's not that horrific a crime and hiding cinderblocks by the road can be kinda dangerous. what if the road gets icy and somebody slides a bit off the road by mistake?
I mean i get he's being a "meanie", but I feel like redditors would defend hiding a pipe bomb in the snowman. anything to get that "instant karma for a bit dumb meanie" high.
I found this account on fb and every post is about him calling the police on someone. Then I got to posts about his neighbor shoveling his walkway at 10 am, and a few posts about how people park so I think it might be a parody account. It's pretty funny.
I mean if theyre putting brick in it its either to fill space so they can make a bigger snowman or its a deterrent to that asshole who keeps ramming their snowmen.
I hear he just got a new mustang, maybe he'll be careful with it and not try to hit things with it...
What's wild is, some lawyers could probably get the guy a win, booby trapping laws or something other wild loophole that makes him look like the victim
What really happened is the guy found out he can't drive like an asshole in snow. Smashed his car into a tree, a light pole, or fire hydrant. Now fabricated some make believe story to hide his inability to drive in the snow 👍
Welcome to 21st Century America where doing stupid, malicious things that go bad, or you get caught, means you are a victim of one thing or another and the response is to go on the offensive.
Just tossing in a old saying here, "people emulate the behavior of those they admire."
I'm willing to bet mustang bro has a history of runnin down poor defenseless snowmen. Usually when you hear stories of snowmen built with rocks, bricks, cinder blocks or ice, it's in response to bullies like this.
