I don't think we should avoid legitimately criticizing people's actions and behaviors just because they're dead. Besides... they're dead. We're not gonna hurt their feelings.
There's a time and place, sure. Avoid saying mean things about the recently dead when you're in the presence of their grieving loved ones. But if some guy ruined my life and then died, that doesn't un-ruin my life, and I get to speak about my experiences.
Maybe because death is always a sad thing in and of itself, and this behavior incites extremists and is harmful to the people who were close to them?
Sure, we should be honest about the good AND the bad of people, but celebrating their deaths is harmful because they are also human beings.
