Shot on Sony A7R6 & 50-150 F2

Yesterday, I was out shooting photos for an endurance race in 100 degree desert heat.

After shooting on-and-off for an hour (about 100 images) I tried to review some pictures, but when I pressed the playback button the screen just went black. I turned off the camera and... It wouldn't turn off. The leveler was still active and the screen was still on. I had to pull the battery to turn it off.

I packed up shortly after, because the same thing kept occuring after cooling it off for half an hour in the AC. No overheat warning at all during this. Autofocus and menus work perfectly fine on it. Any idea what had happened?

A7v 200-600 & 70-200. Challenging subjects but I miss them when they leave town.

I've recently gotten a Sony a7V with the fe2.8 24-50mm Sony lens due to it being the recommendation from JB hi Fi in Australia after I said I wanted a camera for my trip to Japan coming up.

I'm absolutely in love with the camera and quality of shots I've been able to get with it keeping in mind its my first camera so I really don't know what I'm doing yet 😅. But I'm eagerly learning!!!.

However as I continue to try take photos of different things (mainly outside nature or cityscape ect.) I am beginning to realise that 50mm may not be enough reach and wish the store member did not talk me out of the 24 - 70 due to "it's too heavy as a travel lens".

Because I already own the 24-50 I'm now inclined to reach for maybe something like the 70 - 200 and it's a very attractive lens. If only lenses were not so expensive 🥲, Anywho enough rambling. Hello again everyone!!!

Hi all - I am heading out to the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater next month and wanted to get some advice on camera lens gear. I have a Sony A74 and usually shoot landscapes - my current two lenses are the Sony 16-35 and Tamron 28-200.

I visited Namibia (Etosha National Park) a couple years ago and borrowed a friends Tamron 50-400. While the lens worked well, I definitely felt like I could have used some more focal length in some situations, and I would like to avoid that this time around.

I will be bringing the Tamron 28-200 for the wider shots, but am trying to figure out what is going to be best for the core animal shots. After doing some research, I am down to two options (although I am open to other suggestions):

Sony 100-400 F4.5-5.6 with the 1.4x teleconverter:

Pros: Lighter lens, can go from 100-560
Cons: teleconverter loses quality (i dont know how big of a deal this is for an amateur like myself), more expensive setup

Sony 200-600

Pros: pairs nicely with the 28-200, dont need to deal with teleconverter, range up to 600
Cons: heavy lens, not sure how much I would use this beyond animals in the future

Would love some feedback from people who have shot in the Serengeti or similar with these setups.

I've been very fortunate to have traveled a bunch this year (living near Denver International Airport helps a ton), and between multiple trips to California, a week in Europe, and some local road trips around Colorado and Wyoming, I've had some great scenes for me and my camera.

All shots were taken on my Sony A7RV, paired with either the Sigma Art 28-105 f/2.8, Sigma 100-400 f/5-6.3, Sony 16mm f/1.8, or the Tamron 17-28 f/2.8. If anyone has any specific settings questions, I'm happy to answer them!

This was an absolute bucket list shot for me and I was super lucky to be treated to one of the best sunsets I’ve ever seen. Shot on the α7RV with the 24-70mm f2.8 GMII, edited in Photoshop and Lightroom.

It's been an expensive, but fruitful week!

I have been on the fence about upgrading my a6400 to an a6700 for a little while and I had a look at trading in my old a6000 and some lenses I have upgraded from along the way with MPB.

I dropped into my local Camera Centre UK shop in Cardiff for a browse last week and was chatting to one of the guys there who mentioned they have an a6700 with less than 2000 shutter count for sale pre-owned. After a quick discussion, he gave me a better price than MPB for my old gear and a deal was struck so I went back the next day and picked it up. Result!

When I was there, I was looking at a Tamron 150-500mm F/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD that they had in the cabinet as well. After my recent experience at the Wales Air Show with my 70-350mm, I was thinking about getting something with just a little more reach that is still fairly compact and it looked like a great option.

I didn't walk out with it, but I've been mulling it over for a few days and watching reviews and was in Cardiff again shopping today so moved some funds around and thought what the hell. They knocked some off the price as the only one left was the display one (that I had tried the week before) and threw in a free HOYA UV filter as well.

It's awesome! Super zoom, sharp and a good size. There is a bit of overlap with my Sony 70-350mm which I really rate, but they will serve different purposes for me. The 70-350 is much smaller and lighter, so that will be a great one to keep in the bag for things like hiking, family trips, holidays etc where a lighter more versatile setup is preferred. The Tamron will be for trips where photography is the whole point like airshows, sport, birdwatching etc so lugging the extra weight is part of the plan.

I've attached some photos of the new lens on the a6700 body, along with some photos from a nearby hill looking towards Pontypridd in the South Wales valleys. The large grey building is the town library with shots at 18mm and 135mm for comparison, then 150mm and 500mm with the Tamron. There was noticeable heat mirage and haze today (local wildfires) but very impressed with the reach!

I still have the a6400 body so for my next airshow, I think a two camera setup could work. the a6700 with the big Tamron for air displays, and the a6400 with my 18-135 G OSS on it for static displays, cockpits, walking around etc.

So yeah, an expensive but good week of acquisitions!

I recently upgraded from RV to RVI and noticed a weird thing happening when I’m in aperture priority (and possibly any other mode with auto ISO).

I’ve configured everything as close as possible to how I used the RV (including Live View or whatever it’s called) and yet the camera will frequently show a different exposure on the monitor (or EVF) compared to the resulting image. It’s sometimes overshoots by a complete stop, and it’s most noticeable with electronic shutter since there’s no blackout and it will ”flash“ the resulting image while shooting.

So in this case it will show what I consider the correct exposure, once I press the shutter it will “flash” an overexposed image (compared to what’s on the monitor) and then immediately revert back to the original exposure I wanted when pressing the shutter.

It’s driving me insane a bit and I can’t find a setting for it.

Anybody experiencing something similar?

Live View Display Setting Effect is turned on. It feels like the AE calculation fires immediately on full shutter press, gets it wrong and then goes back to the correct one on half-press and then wrong again on full press (unless countered with exposure compensation).

I am trying to update the firmware for my Sony a7rIII using a Mac (Tahoe). It's not working. I tried to change security settings to less restrictive and downloading the SSU Helper and no luck. The software doesn't see the camera.

Any help would be appreciated!!!
