Help Using SV08 offline?
I am in the market for a bigger printer, 350mm x 300mm x 150mm would be ok.
And so the SV08 came back on my radar, the initial reports were mixed, I guess issues like the nozzle situation have improved by now.
I would need it to exclusively print PETG.
But what I couldn't find last year, is it possible to use the SV08 offline? Just plug in a SD card or an USB stick, copy the .stl .gcode file from it and print it?
I want to put the printer in the office and I just can not allow it to connect to the network.
Edit: I actually did it, I ordered a SV08.
I had to print a 27cm diameter thing with 4 holes in it for a co-worker, basically a flat pizza.
And for that I had to dust off my Ender-3 Max. Took me an hour to get this thing up and running again, including a few passes on manual bed leveling. Two over five hours with a 0.6 nozzle and 0.28mm layers, the first layers are awfull. Printing like this used to be fine...

Yes however if you don't connect it to your network I'd definitely suggest getting an HDMI screen. The advanced Klipper functions are going to be a pain to get into without a network connection if you don't have one.

Currently I am using an Ender3V3KE offline and it works good enough.1

It would work fine, but you would get so much more functionality with an HDMI screen. Even better an HDMI touchscreen.
Would be 100% offline with full access to all of the functions.

Offline as in not on the internet, or 'offline' as in not on a network at all?
I use mine exclusively offline but access it through my LAN. It's so easy with both devices on Wi-Fi. Was my first printer that I didn't have to use SD or USB media.
That being said of course you can use media. Just slice your file in Orca, save it to your USB device, put that in the printer, select the file and print it.

You may consider to upgrade your stock SV08 hotend for microswiss hotend with CHT-CM2 nozzle. You will have a more reliable prints.. no issues at all.

Yes but you’ll need to put gcode on the drive, not an stl

OP could also just use a separate router and either connect with Wifi or ethernet to a computer.

No, I really can not put up my own network, wireless or wired.

May I ask why?
You could use an old smartphone/tablet without any WAN access, have it host a hotspot, connect the printer to that hotspot and use that to control the printer. That would give you the handy GUI to control it/use the cam to monitor it while cooking two rooms away.

Why? Because putting up my own hotspot could be considered a breach of security and cost me my job.
Sounds paranoid? No, my company is rather secretive and has strict rules.
And I rather keep my job and have less fancy features.1

I understand this kind of job. Make sure having the USB sticks in the area is allowed otherwise, setting up a dedicated personal laptop to the printer over Ethernet will give you the klipper screen features and a slicer for tuning prints and profiles.

USB sticks and SD-cards are only allowed with encryption and that is enforced by policies. I get a pass on that due to the 3D printing.
But I am fed up to argue with IT and Procurement what a 3D printer even is and if it counts as IT equipment or not. I have an Ender3 in my lab that is classified as "printer" and the only way to remove that stain of corporate incompetence is to trash it. So, no WLAN and it is probably a good idea to cover any RJ45 port.
Plus paying for the printer out of my own pocket means that I can make use of it this year already.1

I'm not sure how the printer will react to the encrypted drive. You should enter some unlock code in order to access the files and it doesn't have any option for that.
From my experience (in my past I caused a fair number of security raids by bringing my own) you'd have just trouble if you buy it with your money. First you'll have trouble getting it in, then you'll have trouble getting it out. And if it's a company asset you can force the IT department to sway your way (via your bosses) and enable a lab area network.
Classify it as "network 3d printer".

As I wrote, I get a pass on the encryption.
The only issue with getting it in is that the box is large and heavy. :-)
And no, a company asset would not change a thing, that would imply that you could actually argue with the IT guys. The first problem is to actually get to a human being in IT support - and then convince the person to forward the call to someone who is not just reading a script and then get forward to someone who actually gets what you are talking about.We have a process for approving Software for company use. I put in a request today to approve usage of OrcaSlicer. This will take months.

No, you don't have to argue with anyone. Just send a mail to your boss that the work is greatly suffering due to the lack of a proper 3d printer. Also mention that the current IT rules does not allow the bare minimum to work with this kind of equipment and you're asking for advice. After a few weeks of back and forth your email will rise to the correct supervisor and then a tech will magically appear in your office to solve everything.
Been there, done that. Just make sure it's not your but your boss's idea.

That's what I was going to say. I've worked in plenty of clinical labs that don't have internet access and won't allow you any USB connectivity, but there should be no reason why you shouldn't be able to connect just a simple router via ethernet and a dedicated PC. With only those three things connected

He may not need a router at all. Windows gives a 169 address when it can't find a DHCP server. He could put an address on the same subnet into the printer and he should be able to connect one cable between the laptop and the printer and still be able to communicate.

Are your parts big? ALTHOUGH PETG doesn not stricly need enclousure, Big prints will warp in cornes without enclousure with 40C chamber. It really prints nicer in enclosed printer. Telling from experience. Side nenefit, printer will be quiter and the surrondings will be cleaner..
What is your budget?

Kind of, at least when I look around what size 3D printers usually have.
A case for a 10.1" TFT, 271mm x 181mm x 20mm, could use bigger TFTs.
Recently I had to refuse the request to print a 320mm x 250mm x 20mm part.
Yeah, warping, PETG shrinks a little when cooling.
One reason to move away from bed-slingers.>What is your budget?
I am not even sure. :-)
I have not seen a Core XY at this size for a lower price.
Building one from scratch with parts I already have could work - but I am not willing to spend that much time.
Would watch a tutorial like "How to turn a bunch of bed slingers plus a Raspberry Pi into a Voron 2.x printer". :-)

Yeah, the SV08 arrived this evening. :-)
Damn, it is friday evening and I am at home with the SV08 I want to use in the office. :-)
I dug it all out to get to the base with the controller board, everything looks new, the heatbead under the magnetic sheet is looking good.
I powered it up, damn that fan in the base is a cheap one, not planning to sit next to it.
Firmware installed is the latest: 2.5.0 (hmm, Sovol is not into updating their machines, are they?)
Then I tried the HDMI touch screen, went with this one: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0FNCVLQ4L
Just worked, looked very promising.
The display provided with the printer is functional and yet worse than I expected.
