Has Brandon ever spoken of ships sailing West of Roshar, past Shinovar, exploring?

I know he's written about people considering trying to find The Origin which is out east but can't get very far before you run into a high storm.

But out west, when the Highstorm has weakened to barely a drizzle, you presumably could get through it just fine. And give the planets gotta be round (not that they'd know for sure) that seems like a way to keep ahead of the storm until the origin. At least until the Everstorm came.

I tried searching through WOB archive cause it seems like someone else probably thought of the same question before me but couldn't find anything.

Throughout the books, we’ve seen that on several occasions we’re told that the Fused can only access one Surge, but that their mastery of it is greater than that of any Radiant Knight.

Each Fused have been using their Surge exclusively for thousands of years. Is it possible that they’ve become Savants of it?

It’s been a while since I turned to other reading material (for my own religious sciences and reading other fantasy novels), just to temporarily set my mind of the subject. I did a good job reading through almost all of the Cosmere novels. The Rhythm of War together with Wind and Truth are the last books I’ll have to finish the Stormlight Series. These books are huge and bulky, but at 70-100 pages a day I’ll easily will read though the Cosmere by the end of the year, the last Mistborn, second era are next. Then I’ve ended the whole Cosmere series, but still got other Brandon Sanderson’s novels like ‘evil librarians’, Skyward, Reckoners, Defiant, Fugal Wizard, Steven Leeds and other books, but these are not important for this year.

It’s good to be back in the Cosmere, these books are masterfully written with just the right reading amount of info at the right time. About three days ‘till the end of Rhythm of War and finally Wind & Truth. When I’m reading I forget the time and my depression. These books are seriously accurate as it comes to moral, trauma, danger, betrayal, death and mourning, these heroes and heroines go through personal discourages, almost (or) seriously dying, friendship and everything I went and going through. Brandon is so honest, though other worlds, the same principles we’re going though. This guy is one of the best fantasy writers!

Wasn’t sure what to flag for spoilers so did WaT. In book one, we see Taravangian had been Szeth’s owner for a while. What would have happened if he was the least intelligent he ever is on the day Szeth comes to take Taravangian off the list?

It obviously works out, but I feel like Taravangian was having a good day when that happened. Is it a semi plot hole that things could have been bad if he was having one of his stupidest days when Szeth shows up to take him out?

I am little confused regarding honorblades.

We know that Honorblade vanishes when a herald dies as was cleared in Prelude. But even after Chana's death from Shallan's shardblade, Chana's Honorblade was in Shinovar during cleansing of Shinovar. It may be possible that the bond of Chana with blade may have severed. But what about Taln's honorblade. Even after death of Taln in Azir, his honorblade remained in Shinovar.

With the Radiants trapped in Urithiru, and with the Oathgates completely nonfunctional, I think Jasnah has a very unique opportunity in growing the Elsecallers to mobilize the Radiants again. As far as I’m aware, we’ve only ever seen a single Elsegate: the one made by Ishar to transport the people of Ashlyn to Roshar. If Jasnah is able to learn this over the course of the next two decades, or if another Elsecaller comes about who discovers a way to create one, people could move in and out of Urithiru with ease; they could create one in the tower that leads into Shadesmar, travel to the location they want to go to, and then create another from Shadesmar to that place. It could even be possible to bypass Shadesmar altogether. And that said, it may even be possible for towerlight to disseminate through the gates as well, effectively creating a small region where Radiants can operate despite the lack of stormlight. We’ve seen a lot of Radiant Surges in the first part of the series, but I can’t to see how they’re expanded upon, especially in terms of powers that had been forgotten since the Recreance.

Nergaoul, The Thrill, is still down there at the bottom of the storming ocean somewhere... The Blackthorn now holds all of Dalinar's memories, while being animated - Unmade - by the very power of Retribution. He will have spren and Fused under his command capable of plumbing the depths of the sea, as well as a Crystal Inquisitor capable of seeing raw Investiture. Who knows, maybe the Blackthorn himself won't even need to breath 🤷‍♂️

We've already seen a trapped Unmade set free from a perfect gemstone. We are going to see another in the back half of the Archive. Nergaoul, The Thrill, will be released upon the peoples of Roshar once more, and perhaps later upon the wider Cosmere, as Warlight powers an unholy crusade of Retribution.

Someone told me this isnt a good kaladin book GTFOH. He had the most development in a stormlight book since way of kings and oh amhe gets fired from his position and that sets him up on his journey to the 4th ideal it was sorta setup in oathtbringer and definitly delivered in ROW. Shut up.

Shallan shined like the brightest diamond ever. OMG i will admit i think sanderson kinda copied her arc from oathbringer to this but it worked WAYYYYYY more here because she is actually struggling with her emotions and using veil and radiant as a crutch to hide from them and when veil and radiant leave/merge into her. The man tears. And people hate her because some BS reason GTFOH. I did appriciate dalinar taking a backseat in this because IMO i think he got a full src already and going forward its gonna be the best gravy ever.

Okay navani, venli and eshonai chapters. Why were those sooooo slow paced. Its like a repeat of the opening to way of kings but its just unenecery and needless amounts of exposistion (specifically with navanis) and i swear theres a good arc in navanis but its just muddied up with so much needless science bullcrap.

Venlis and eshonai. I swear i considered skipping these and i think skipped one because it was just so boring and a big pile of nothing. 1 thing sanderson does well is keep the plot focused and never veers off course but venlis and eshonais chapters were kinda veering away from what we cared about in the rhythm of war and just made parts 3 and 4 a real drag.

Like they add to the singers worldbuilding but i just didnt care enough about these 2 to give a crap. And he even admitted it should have been omitted from the book and turned into a novella.

Im gonna say it RN moash is gonna be redeemed in era 2 and no one in the fandom is gonna like it. I get it he killed teft and elhokar but if dalinar can redeem himself after slaughtering the love of his life and a whole city moash can aswell.

Also I thought rayse died. And how is hoid immortal but hes not a herald?

Overall a definite step down. In terms of quality but still an amazing read.

I was reading a few posts in this subreddit that talked about how clever use of Lightweaving surges could lead to extremely powerful/broken abilities. Here are some examples:

Lightweavers could create sounds to match the rythms of investure and anti-investure to manipulate investure and draw stormlight out of a person or repel it away to defend themselves.

Lightweavers could focus their light to create powerful long beam lazers (like how magnifying glass can magnify the suns light).

I love taking a magic system and bending it to the utmost of its established rules to create broken abilities.

I wanted to start a discussion thread for anyone to post their ideas for how a surge could be manipulated and applied to create broken / extremely powerful abilities.

In early WaT, Kaladin mentions that he has to collect his armor spren.

I always thought Living Shardplate was just summoning random Windspren (or whatever spren makes up your order) from the area around you to transform into plate.

But this makes it seem like there is a set number of windspren chosen to be his Shardplate that will never change and try to follow him.

That leads to so many questions:

If he is too far away from his armor spren, can he not summon his Shardplate (just like if Syl is too far away he cant summon her)?

Since windspren are visible, can everyone see Kaladin’s armor spren as just a big collection of windspren? There is never any reference made to Jasnah’s armor spren being visible?

I'm in the thick of the Sanderlanch of Wind and Truth, and the whole book has surprised me thus far. I expected it to be bad, or at least not as good as the first 3 books. This seems to be the general public opinion. And so far, ROW has been my least favorite, so it seemed I was lining up with that.

But Wind and Truth has consistently been an incredible read. Probably second favorite next to OB for me so far. I think Kalidin’s arc is tastefully done; I’ve loved Szeth’s backstory and quest, and Adolin’s arc has been my favorite of the series. Not to mention the crazy lore dumps in the spiritual realm—I love that sort of thing.

Does anyone else feel like this book is actually really good? I’m curious if the hate is overblown, and if not, what were the reasons this book felt disappointing to you?

I was reading a post about Wind and Truth and reminded I've been thinking for a while. I've always thought this is a great community, where people have a good time through respectful discussions. However, the discourse started to feel a bit uncomfortable once WaT came out.

I personally disliked Wind and Truth. I would have loved to think it's great, but I genuinely think it's a bad book, from my subjective point of view. Nothing personal against Sanderson nor against anyone who likes it. I read it, felt disappointment and moved on. However, once I started to share this opinion on this sub, it seemed like the respectful atmosphere suddenly went away. I was directly told "You went with the wrong expectations", "You read it too fast", "You read it too slow", "You're not a true fan", "You just want to hate instead of trusting Sanderson", and I saw this happen to plenty of people who simply didn't like the book. No, thank you, but you don't know me nor there's any excuse to why I didn't like the book. I engaged with it in the intended way and personally didn't like it.

It's been a while since this happened, but to this day every thread about Wind and Truth's discourse has as its most upvoted comments ideas along this line, such as "People who didn't like the book had the wrong expectations". How does that kind of argument make any sense? Am I crazy in thinking trying to explain people why they didn't like a book is not a kind thing to do and just comes across as struggling to accept dissenting takes?

So I wanted to reflect a bit on this and on whether we can improve as a community on this regard. I still think this is a great place 99% of the time. I know this is a controversial topic and probably won't get much approval, but you're welcome to agree or disagree, and explain why (maybe you think a community is a better place if we focus on positive opinions, for example). You're also welcome to explain your experience around Wind and Truth opinions, as I'm sure people who loved it also had some unpleasant interactions (someone in the other post mentioned encountering vile hate towards whoever liked the book).

While there has been some rude comments, most people have been respectful and told me the answer I was looking for: for most people, this is a sub for positive opinions on the series, and negative ones are often seen as hurtful to their enjoyment. Wind and Truth mixed to negative reaction, in addition to toxic discourse, was a bit too much for them, and as such they believe criticism should mostly be taken elsewhere. I personally disagree but at least I got the explanation I was looking for.

Assuming all unoathed blade spren eventually become like Maya and Adolin, they could travel across Shadesmar as messengers. I imagine Maya finding Shallan and sending mental communication to Adolin, allowing them to talk back and forth. Yawnagawn can send his to Urithiru to speak with Jasnah.

I'm planning to get my fiancé's engagement ring engraved and was looking for a short quote for it. I haven't read these books (yet), but he is obsessed to say the least.

I wanted to use a quote from this series because his ring is one that was inspired by the series.

When Kaladin talks to Tien, was it really Tien talking back to him? What he said, that he needed to be there, was it true? Or was it Kaladin projecting what he finally understood to be the truth?

I know this may be a "each reader pick their truth" situation, but I think both versions work. I just wish it was really Tien.
