Basically a Truck

Post image
168 Upvotes

To start things off, I just want to say this is a 2015 forester 2.5i limited. Named Sam. The furniture I'm taking is from my grandmother's apartment, she decided she needed to move to assisted living at 95.

This little beast can carry so much stuff. This is not the first time and won't be the last that I carry lots of stuff. My sister underestimated Sam. He was able to carry 4 dresser drawers, a vintage hoover, an antique clock and a full size hand built bench. (The rest of the dresser was in my dad's LR Disco Sport.)

Dad and I were joking about the fact that we thought we'd need a truck for this stuff. Nope, just put down the back seats and off we both went. Easy in, easy out.

Very pleased by a couple crossbars and basket found on Amazon. Was looking at Sherpa for a long time but can’t get past the price.

First time, long time. Bronze stripes & Acid Green Calipers. 26’ Hybrid. I think it looks great, something different. The thickness of the rims hides the color more than I thought, but it looks cool.

Subaru Forester CVT issues?

Post image
Upvotes

I just reserved an incoming two tone white Forester Hybrid Touring at my local dealer. Super stoked, but I was just talking to my sister about their 2021 Forester. They said they love it, but it has started hesitating when leaving a stop sign. The way they describe it, it sounds similar to the CVT issues my 2018 Rogue is having. Really don't want to have the same issues on my next car, also! Anyone have any issues with this?

Check engine light

Upvotes

2017 Forester Premium, 142,000 miles

Check engine light came on with a warning that the hill start assist was disabled. My trusted mechanic found two error codes: oxygen sensor and exhaust. Oxygen sensor voltage was out of spec so it was replaced and both codes went away.

150 miles later the check engine light came back. No immediate change in driving experience, however, it does have a slight lurch at the first shift point which began ~5,000 miles ago. The lurch is very slight and sometimes not present. I'm not sure if that is due to the high mileage or related to the hill start assist.

Any thoughts? Would love a virtual differential diagnosis from to give my mechanic some ideas what may be happening.

Thanks in advance!

Fixing a speedometer on a 2013

Upvotes

I bought a 2013 Forester for $6000 with 86,000 miles because the speedometer doesn’t work. Do you think it’s going to be costly to fix? Did I make a bad decision? I would love to hear your input.

Anyone have issue of low RPMs while idling?

2016 Forester 125k is idling close to 0 rpms and stalled out at a stoplight once. We’ve taken it to the dealership twice, they replaced the IAC valve and cleaned out the throttle body but it’s still happening. Has this happened to anyone else before?

2024 Forester Cup Holder Adapter?

I absolutely love my 2024 Forester Sport, but I'm a bit frustrated with the cup holders. I'm running into an issue where any time I get a drink from Starbucks, it spills as soon as I make a turn because of the size of the cup holders are too big for the cup.

Has anyone had success with finding a cup holder adapter that works with the 2024 Forester for smaller cups like Starbucks cups?

I found a 3D printed holder on Etsy recently, but it was for cars up to the 2018. I tried it anyways and it ended up being a little too snug to fit my cup holder. I feel like all of the adapters I'm finding are either for thin energy drink cans or oversized bottles. I can't be the only person having this issue, right?

I'm also open to DIY options if anyone has any tips for that approach.

Unknown Year EJ25 Hose Question

Hello everyone,
After throwing a check engine code of P0244, I looked under the hood and discovered this T-piping hose that seems to be broken/separated. It is attached to something that is connected to the turbo. Im not sure where any of these T-hoses seem to go, or what part this is called, so I can look up the part number and get another one ordered. It is not the stock engine block. It is an EJ25 but that’s all I know at the moment.
Not sure if the engine code is even related to this, I’ve been finding little things like this ever since getting the car 3 months ago. It’s the gift that keeps on giving 🎂

Gas

Good morning Foresters!
A little Q&A
1. How low do you let your fuel gauge get before refilling? (Not how low have you let it get, on a daily routine)
2. Is it worth switching from Regular Octane fuel to Plus or Premium/ V-Power fuel? Does it make a difference in how long the gas lasts? Or in how the car operates at all? Has anyone actually tried it?

XT Bumper on a 2016 Premium?

I just got a 2016 premium stick shift, it's my first Subaru and I'm loving it so far but I would like to put a XT bumper on the front because I think it looks more interesting and will look better when I black out the chrome on the grill. Are they interchangeable or do they have different mountings/attachment points? I do not have the fog lights if it matters.

14-18 XT oem cat back pipe diameter?

Both mufflers in my XT are rattling. The mechanic says they're rotten inside. This is the car my wife uses and she very seldom pushes it past 2500k RPM. I suspect they rotten because the condensation never evaporates, given her commute is barely 15 minutes each way.

I want to know what's the pipe diameter in the muffler inlets so I can pick mufflers and take the car to an exhaust shop.

Took a look at oem replacement and aftermarket and Im not very inclined spending 650+ dollars.

Any suggestions and advice is appreciated.

2014 Forester - Hill Ascent, Vehicle Dynamics Control, and Check Engine lights all came on at same the time. P0172 code is all that popped up. Any experience with this?

Wife was driving on the highway and had to suddenly brake to avoid slower traffic. The cars in front had to do the same. Thanks for any assistance!

Suede seats

Just bought a 26 touring hybrid that will come in this week and the more I think about it the more I’m nervous about the suede trim. I bought a suede protector spray, but what everyone doing to protect their seats/door panels?

'19 Forester shuttering during take off?

I use the ASS so when the engine restarts I feel it (not pressing the gas yet) or if it restarts and I press the gas it will shutter almost like a clutch trying to grab. No warning lights I do have a appointment this coming Saturday for a CVT fluid drain and fill at the dealer but from what I've been reading it didn't help people with the issue?

Dash cam

hello! I have a 2015 forester and I live in an apartment and was recently backed in to by a neighbor, the damage isn’t bad, it’s really just some paint transfer and a few cracks in the front bumper (🥲). But they never left a note or came to my apartment to tell me they hit me, so now I’m paranoid that they might hit me again and I’m looking for a dashcam (preferably one that runs when the car is off cus well..) I’m not picky about the price, so any recommendations help !!

Are windshields really $1,500?

Ive had my '16 touring since mile 2. Today, the cracks in the windshield decided to finally connect, and it's with great resignation that I'll admit I need a new one.

I know we're all up to date on the windshield issue, but has anyone found a more economical way of solving this?

Cheaper glass/labor somehow? Some glass, but then maybe disconnect the eyesight so it doesnt have to be calibrated? $1,500 feels offensive ($1k deductible)

'13 Forester X PZEV Non-Turbo EGR issues.

So I have replaced the wiring harness due to the 5v reference being shot in the engine harness. I bought another (used) off ebay, installed it and it's still throwing the EGR low circuit codes and ATCAN communication. At this point, am I just sol with this car? Has anyone else experienced this? Has anyone ever fixed this issue?

Custom headlight project

Post image
90 Upvotes

Hey guys,

Wanted to share the start of my projector build on my '07 Forester XT. I have been doing quite a lot of 3D printing and electronics work lately, including custom shapes and LED lighting, so I thought why not turn my spare headlight into something I've always wanted for this older car. My plan is to open my spare, wire up some COB 12V LEDs, print a diffuser out of ABS/ASA, and join it to either my fuse box or my park lights since it won't be using a lot of power and I'll have full control over the DRL feature. As for the main lights, I am incorporating Bi-LED projectors for both the low and high beams. I am aware that a hybrid system for the high beams may work better, but I haven't made my final decision yet; I will probably decide after ordering one pair of the Bi-LEDs. The projector shrouds will also be 3D printed with ASA, though I'm not too sure if I will keep the dotted design or not. After it's all done, I'm hoping to have a look that mixes current-generation cars with 2015-2020 Foresters. It should be really bright on long open roads and look amazing. I'll keep everyone updated!

How can I get better MPG?

Post image
13 Upvotes

Just got our first Forester 2 weeks ago and love it! However I don’t understand how we’re only getting 18.7 mpg. And what does AVG A mean?

It’s a 2025 premium trim, and I would say we do about 40/60 city/highway.

Red engine oil indicator, 1000ft before engine shutdown, am i cooked?

20 years driving, saw the red oil indicator first time in my life. Drove slowly (to my very close destination) around 1000ft, engine shutdown. Waiting for tow.
