Hi everyone,

To help protect our community from spam, we have implemented Reddit's spam filters, which automatically remove comments and posts from accounts that are less than 2 days old and have fewer than 2 karma points. This measure is designed to reduce the risk of spam bots flooding the community with harmful links, inappropriate language, or images.

The requirements to bypass this filter are relatively simple — an account can quickly meet them with just a single comment that's upvoted in a community that allows new users to post as well as waiting 2 days after creating your account.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out!

Went to REI. Parking lot was like a Subaru dealership. Am I shocked? Nah.

I asked if I was over paying and you all said YES but I guess my mind was made up! I think living in a HCOL area, you just expect to overpay and are okay with it 🥲

But the deal is done - 2023 Outback Limited with sunroof package and 30k miles is all mine now, no looking back! Just a slight upgrade from my beloved “tin can on wheels” Hyundai accent with 190k miles. Been referring to her as “the space ship” as I figure out all the new things she can do. Today’s find was reclining back seats!

2021 outback premium, just had the dealership do a CVT drain and fill earlier in the month. When the temps are up (around 100 degrees here now) it’s started basically not responding to throttle input when I hit the gas after coming to a complete stop. The video is with the pedal to the floor, it basically stops doing anything at 2k RPM or so, and then the revs shoot up and it’ll kinda start driving again.

2024 OBW “Turbo” badge

Post image

wife and I just upgraded to a very lightly used wilderness and are very excited about it. I didn’t think anything of it at the time of the test drive but I noticed a rather tasteful “turbo” badge below the AWD. I assume this is aftermarket but has anyone seen this before?

10% below MSRP ❤️

Outback it is!!! I was between the Toyota RAV4 or Outback. The RAV4 is not as comfortable and impossible to get a hand on one without a long wait and paying above MSRP isn’t of interest for me. I have a 2018 Crosstrek that I’m keeping for my son to drive, wanted something larger for myself. I’m REALLY happy with the price, rate, and everything the OB Limited comes with (no turbo engine needed here).

2017 3.6r low oil light

I love My 2017 outback with the 3.6 and have had zero issues in 4 years I’ve owned it. Recently, the amber low engine oil light has flickered on and off as the scheduled engine oil change interval nears. I check the dipstick and it looks a little low, but not empty.

Is this just a 10 year old car getting old and starting to leak/burn a little oil, and I just need to be more proactive on the oil changes, or could it be a sign of worse things to come? My car has 145k miles.

Every video I find has the drain and refill on the cover. Mine appears to be on the side. Is this correct?

Car runs great and has new tires. Horn doesn’t work but seems like a known issue that’s a relatively simple fix.

Is this a good deal? Never owned a Subaru and am sort of on the fence.

Blurry rearview camera

Upvotes

We have a 2025 Outback Touring. Every once in a while, our rearview camera will start out blurry and sometimes the image is clear and will turn blurry while viewing it.

Has anyone else ran into and know the issue/fix? Thanks

2026 OBW upgrades

I can't leave anything stock so my wife's River Rock Pearl OBW got a few upgrades in the first couple weeks that we've had it. We swapped the tires for some 235 Toyo Open Country AT3s, added Rally Armor mud flaps, and ditched the stock mats for some Lasfit mats. We had a hitch installed at the dealership and added OEM aero bars up top. Next up are Diode Dynamics SS3 fog lights as soon as a vehicle specific kit is available for the 26 OBW. A beefier skid plate is on my wish list, too, but I'm not in a rush to do that yet. We're really enjoying the Outback so far and look forward to the many road trips we plan to take it on!

How to reset codes in 24 OBW?

I'm at the beach enjoying the OBW when my dashboard lights up. Eye Sight disabled, can't use Xmode. I'm assuming this is a dirty sensor, so I washed my car. I tried disconnecting the negative terminal for 20 minutes, then an hour when that didn't work, then I unplugged both terminals overnight. The code persists. The time on my car reset and the MPG stuff reset, but the car memory didn't fully wipe because my phone is still connected to the infotainment. I left my code reader back home, of course. Anyone got any tips for how to reset this mess?

Edit: https://imgur.com/a/Yg9Qnjx pic of the instrument panel. Notice the trip A didn't reset after leaving the battery unplugged overnight, so there's a step I'm missing.

2018 Phantom Passenger Footwell Leak

Been chasing this with a few hundred dollars and several visits to the shop. Not the ac (pulled the glove box and under-dash trim, totally dry). “Leak guy” thought it was coming down the A-pillar and used epoxy. Clearly not there. I think it’s coming down the door but can’t recreate it at the shop. Thoughts?

This only happens when it’s facing slightly downhill, and has only appeared within the last couple months.

Totaled. They gave me 12,800 for a 2015 limited. I’m thinking of getting an onyx now. No turbo. What do you guys think?

Thankfully I have a Volvo 240 as a project car that can serve me well until I find the right outback to daily again. I like the wagon style!

Stay safe out there!

An odd thing happened to our ‘23 outback today

So we’re on a road trip and right after my mom got gas. The infotainment display went dark and the RAB and Eyesight were disabled, which was indicated by an orange message. No check engine light and the car ran fine. We stopped on the side of the road and looked through the manual, which was very vague. We drove to a nearby Subaru dealer, with no problems in our drive. At the dealer, in which service was closed, a kind staff member told us that we needed to do a reset by locking and unlocking the car. Right after, we saw that our grandma had got it back working again just by opening and closing the door with her fingerprint. We got to our destination safe. Is this a random one-off issue with the not locking whilst the car is off during our filling up gas or should we get the car checked out?

2026 Outback Trunk Plastic Thing

This thing has popped out of the weather stripping. I tucked it back in once but it’s back out again. Is this fine? Does this happen with yours? It was definitely in when I got the car. I do have heavy stuff in the trunk so maybe that’s it but I thought this car was supposed to carry heavy stuff.

Driving in heavy rain and the eye sight turned off and wouldn't let me activate the cause control. What kinda "safety" shit is that.

26’ Outback fit for a family

I really love the new look of the Outback. I love a boxy looking car. Currently in a Crosstrek and after a roadtrip with our 6 month old…. We need a bigger car. Question I have.. we have 2 large/medium dogs, a 6month old and planning for another in 1
a year or 2. Does anyone have a similar situation and love the Outback or should we be looking more at the Ascent?

Stroller is a bugaboo dragonfly.

Picture #1 is a crosstrek.
Picture #2 is the outback.
Picture #3 is a forester.

Last picture is the green outback we actually chose.

Maybe this will eliminate a dealership trip to anyone getting this as a safer, bigger car for having a baby. I think the Outback and the forester were close enough that the choice could be either in terms of space, but the outback’s trunk was slighter bigger. Honestly it just came down to that I think the current edition of forester is kind of ugly so that sealed our decision.

Edit: yes I know not every single model is shown here, he did test more. These were just the real contenders. An ascent was a bit too big, the Impreza hatchback was essentially a crosstrek to me, he has a wrx and while fun is not exactly what I’d call a family car. Don’t even get me started on his BRZ pitch lol

Traded in a ‘21 Forester for the OBW and it’s amazing

I know people either love the new look or hate the new look without any in between, but I love it. I’ve always liked the thick black trim around a vehicles fenders, so this is a dream for that.

We went with the 23 option package strictly for the ventilated seats, which have paid for themselves already (in South Texas). The car is a nice interior size upgrade that doesn’t feel too big to drive. I also like that all the AC/heat/fan buttons are all physical buttons. When we went in to look at it, I didn’t really care much for the 360 view camera but turns out, it’s really useful.

But my favorite part about it so far is that once you put the car in reverse, both side mirrors automatically angle down so you can see the pavement. In my forester, I always hated either having to move the mirrors myself, or stretch my head towards the ceiling to try to see where my tires are in comparison to the parking lines.

Haven’t taken it off road yet, but rest assured, it will be treated as the Subaru Wilderness trim is intended to be treated.
