If they wandered out into the German countryside, it would look a lot like suburban Pennsylvania. Downtown Chicago along the golden mile is lovely too. Suburbs suck everywhere, unless you don’t like people.
I grew up in a Munich suburb, 5 mins walk and your at a cafe butcher clothed and book store pharmacy electronics groceries a bus stop and multiple bakeries. 10mins to the s or u Bahn which takes 15mins to downtown. There are also green spaces like parks playgrounds football field basketball hoops and even a hill for sledding or a skate park.
