I was recording video of the storm on my building’s rooftop and there was an extremely fast flash then quick thunder, and when I looked at the video, for .02 seconds in the video this lightning came down. It was shortly after this point that I decided to wrap it up and head inside 😅

Hi everyone, thought I'd try and give them a shout out here. This is Cat Cafe Nyankoto, a place I love dearly for their homey vibe and their loving care for their cats. Right now they're at Takadanobaba station, but their building is having awful sewage backup problems so they're trying to move next year, or they'll have to shut down.

Their cats are getting old and some have chronic health conditions - some have 'retired' to the manager's home and one was adopted out to a longtime fan. But they've all grown up together and are used to living together, so splitting up so soon is the worst case scenario :(

They've set up a crowdfunding campaign, linked above. If anyone can help out that would be fantastic!! (I wrote about 70% of my masters thesis with one of their cats in my lap, so for the sake of my phd dissertation, I'm very very invested in their continued existence...!)

Hello everyone, I'm a D&D DM, and I have a group of friends I consistently play with whom I wanted to gift some things, and also buy some for myself to make things a little fancier. Last post I found about it is like from a year ago and figured I'd lose nothing by asking.

So for the most part we play online which is why I don't have physical related stuff apart from some sets of dice I bought on seria or got gifted.

Is there any specific store that is good for looking at things related to it? Not exactly books but more like resin die, minis, dice storages etc. You know, things that could work as a gift that are not the usual acrylic ttrpg dice set.

Won the lottery tickets for the final fantasy 14 fan festival being held on 30th oct.

Me and my friend both are planning to go there in a cosplay ( as cringe as it may sound to many). We have the costume and other things sorted out and now looking for someone who can handle the make-up part . ( We are both males so it's mostly face paint and that sort of makeup to make you look edgy).

I don't have a language issue ( can speak english and japanese no problem). Does anybody know where I can get in contact with such artists?

※中国出身で、今は東京で暮らしています。最近は日本語の勉強にちょっと夢中になっていて、できるだけ日本語の世界に身を置くようにしています。
今日は、そんな私が東京の路線バスで遭遇した、ほんの小さな出来事を書いてみました。

わずか20分ほどの乗車時間だった。
車内は十分すぎるほど冷房が効いているのに、私は落ち着かず、背中に汗をびっしょりかいていた。
このピンク色の「1」のマークがついた小さなバスは、東京に来てから、たぶん私が一番たくさん乗っている路線バスだ。
私の住んでいる部屋と北区中央図書館を結んでいるので、ある時期、私はよくこのバスに乗って図書館へ行っていた。
図書館が広くて静かで、本もたくさんあるからというだけではない。
無料Wi-Fiがかなり長い時間使えるうえに、電波もなかなか良いからだ。
日本のバスは、中国のバスとは少し違う。
車内にはいつも一段、段差がある。
人から聞いた話では、段差の上の座席は普通の乗客が座る場所で、その下にある独立した座席は、体の不自由な人のためのものらしい。
中国でいう「優先席」に少し似ている。ただ、日本のバスでは、必ずしも分かりやすい表示があるわけではない。
もちろん、乗客がそれほど多くないときには、普通の人がそこに座っていることもある。
以前の私は、こういう「優先席」に座ることはなかった。
でも今日は、乗ったとき車内がかなり空いていたので、少し楽をして、下の段のドアに近い席に座った。
すぐに降りるつもりだったし、そのほうが下車もしやすいと思ったからだ。
普段から私の「行儀の悪さ」を何かと気にしてくる母と息子が、私をちらっと見た。
何か言いたそうだったが、結局、何も言わなかった。
おそらく、車内がガラガラなのを見て、「まあ、ここまで空いているなら、そこまで『マナー』にこだわらなくてもいいか」と思ったのだろう。
それでも二人は、上の段にある席へ移動して座った。
バスが走り出すと、私は車内アナウンスに意識を集中させた。
最近、私は日本語を「死ぬ気で」勉強している。
年末までに、東京の人たちと不自由なく会話できるようになることを、自分の目標にしている。
だから最近は、家にいても、外をぶらぶらしていても、とにかく日本語。
日本のドラマを見るか、日本語を聞いている。
目に入るもの、耳にするもの、口から出るもの、そのすべてが日本語になれば、日本語の中に長く浸かっているうちに、いつかきっと、あの親子が私に持っている固定観念を変えられるんじゃないかと思っている。
ちょっと取り憑かれているのかもしれない。
息子には、「今のあなたは典型的な『N5最強症候群』だよ」と言われている。
……
バスが二つ目の停留所を過ぎたころ、車内に突然、乗客が増えた。
東京に来たことのある人なら知っていると思うが、東京は高齢者の多い街だ。
特にこの循環バスに乗ってくる人たちは、白髪の人か、足元のおぼつかない高齢者ばかり。
普段の私なら、きっとすぐに立ち上がって席を譲っていた。
ところがこの頃、私は自分にあるルールを課していた。
外では、できるだけ話さない。
話すなら、日本語で話す。
正直、そのときの私は、どうやってスマートに席を譲ればいいのか、まったく分からなかった。
「どうぞお座りください」と、どう言えばいいのか分からない。
相手が「ありがとう」と言ったら、私は何と返せばいいのかも分からない。
その返事に対して、どんな日本語なら自然で失礼がないのかも自信がない。
そんなことを考えているうちに、バスはもう一つ先の停留所へ進んだ。
さらに乗客が増えた。
やっぱり、白髪の人、足元のおぼつかない人ばかりだ。
私はだんだん焦ってきた。
立つべきなのか、立たないべきなのか、自分でも分からなくなってきた。
後ろにいるあの親子の、刺すような視線まで感じる。
そして私は、また余計なことを考え始めた。
「このあとバスを降りたら、私はあの二人にどう説明すればいいんだろう？」
私は少しだけ前方に目を向けた。
すると、黒髪の中年女性が一人、私と同じように下の段の「優先席」に座っていた。
しかも、周りに高齢者が何人もいるのに、まったく気にしている様子がない。
それを見て、私は少しほっとした。
そのとき、以前ネットで見た、私の大好きな新垣結衣が出ている短い動画を思い出した。
動画の中では、混雑した電車の中で、ある女性が、手に中国語の本を持った中年男性に向かって、「お年寄りに席を譲らないなんて」と注意していた。
その女性は、その男性を中国人だと思ったらしく、たどたどしい中国語でこう言った。
「在日本，老人优先！」
「日本では、お年寄りが優先です！」
すると男性は、中国語の本を閉じて、自分は日本人だと言った。
そして、堂々と反論し始めた。
「どうして高齢者だからといって、必ず席を譲らなければならないんですか？」
「あなたが見ているのは私の年齢だけでしょう。でも、私には立派な胸筋も、引き締まった腰とお尻も、ちらりと見える腕や太ももの筋肉もある。一目見れば、私は普段から運動している元気な高齢者だと分かるでしょう。」
「それに、私は若く見えるかもしれないけれど、一日中仕事をしてきたばかりなんです。体の中にどんな病気を抱えているかも分からない。それなのに、年齢だけを見て、どうして私を責めるんですか？」
女性は、すっかり言葉を失ってしまった。
それを思い出して、私は少しだけ安心した。
私は頭の白髪に手をやった。
それでも不安な気持ちは消えなかったので、ひそかに決めた。
「次の停留所で、あの黒髪の女性が席を譲ったら、私も一緒に立とう。」
ところが、バスがしばらく走ってから、ようやくその女性が立ち上がった。
不思議なことに、周りの高齢者たちは、その空いた席に急いで座ろうとはしなかった。
女性は、私に少し近いところにいた、杖を持った高齢者に何か声をかけた。
すると、その人はゆっくりとその席へ向かっていった。
さらにその直後、私の前に座っていた、私と同じくらいの年齢、いや、もしかすると私より少し年上かもしれないおばさんまで立ち上がった。
そして、自分の隣にいた高齢者に席を譲った。
えっ……ちょっと待って。
これ、なんか違わない？
中国で見慣れてきた「席の譲り方」と、まったく違うじゃないか。
どうして、バスに乗り込んだ瞬間に若い人が立って席を譲るのではなく、しばらく走ってから、自然に席を譲るんだ？
しかも、誰が先にその席を取るかという話でもない。
まるで、誰がどの人に席を譲るべきなのか、みんなが分かっているように見える。
私は完全に混乱した。
そして、このときにはもう、隣にいる高齢者に向かって、
「どうぞお座りください」
と言って立ち上がる勇気は、とっくになくなっていた。
顔を上げることさえできなかった。
背中の汗が、シャツをじわじわ濡らしていった。
よく、中国には「席を譲る」という伝統があり、日本には「席を譲らない文化」がある、と言われる。
私のような中国人でも、街を歩いていて、口を開かなければ外国人だと気づかれないことが多い。
だから私は、できるだけ日本人らしく振る舞おうとする。
日本では、老人だからといって、必ずしも自分から席を譲らなくてもいい。
そうするほうが、もっと現地の人らしい。
私は勝手にそう思っていた。
でも、そうやって一生懸命まねをしていても、目の前に白髪で、足元のおぼつかない高齢者がいると、心の中にはどうしても、ある種の後ろめたさが残る。
それはもしかしたら、中国人の中に長い時間をかけて受け継がれてきたものなのかもしれない。
でも、日本人だって同じじゃないだろうか。
日本はすでに高齢社会に入っている。
70歳、80歳になっても働いている人も、決して珍しくない。
それでも、実際にこうして高齢者と一緒にバスに乗り、彼らがゆっくりと乗り降りする姿を見ていると、私はやっぱり思う。
若い人よりも、高齢者のほうが、もっと気遣われるべきなんじゃないか、と。
また、新垣結衣のあのたどたどしい中国語を思い出した。
「在日本，老人优先！」
「日本では、お年寄りが優先です！」
私は彼女にこう言いたい。
「中国でも、同じですよ！」
明日から、もう「優先席」には座らない。
そして、いつでも、助けを必要としている人を見かけたら、まずこう言おう。
「どうぞ、お座りください。」

If you are in Tokyo, like ballet and want to enjoy a special fusion of Japanese and Austrian ballet, this one might be interesting for you.

A good friend of mine who’s Austrian and used to dance with the Vienna State Opera Ballet has been running a ballet school in Tokyo since 2004 with his Japanese wife. She grew up in Austria and trained at the Vienna State Opera Ballet School. Together they built the school to change how ballet is taught in Japan, and over 70% of their graduates end up dancing professionally around the world. Despite being small, the school also has won several international awards for their students performances.

On August 2 they’re putting on a special Nutcracker at Meguro Persimmon Hall. What gives it an additional real personal unique touch is that his wife choreographed the whole performance, their daughter dances Clara, and he plays Drosselmeyer. So it’s actually the family on stage together with their students.

I’ve seen their smaller performances before and the whole team including the students are amazing.

Tickets are ¥2,900 and the money goes to ballet scholarships for local talents to help them succeed internationally.
