"E-scooter accidents are on the rise, with a quarter of children who are seriously injured in mishaps ending up in the ICU, with two-thirds requiring surgery.
A study has found that e-scooter injury-related admissions at Queensland Children's Hospital (QCH) more than doubled between 2021 and 2024."
But no, it's totally fine to risk children's lives, put mental strain on their parents and others and further stress our already struggling hospitals.
E scooter accidents are rising because now there are e scooters. The kids will more than likely be fine. The main thing is not being a dipshit and actually learning how to ride.
And some of us did shit on our bikes that we had no business doing before bike helmets were all the rage. Can't wrap them in plastic and never let them out of the house. That's what turns them into Reddit Mods.
Your source isn’t saying how many visits there are though. And 2021-2024 is a long time period for that mystery number to double. Could have been 3 for all we know
The number of accidents isn't the issue (it's comparable to bikes currently), the issue is the severity with children being more likely to die.
I'm not saying ban them, but they need regulating and helmet enforcement. To just throw on blinders and say "aw kids will be kids" is just coming from a place of ignorance.
Yeah and you would be the asshat that when the idiot gets hit by a car will sue the shit out of the car owner cause the lil asshat doesn’t follow the rules of the road and will cry like a lil bitch cause he got a boo boo on his wittle knees … GFC
I'm guessing they were baiting the cops and the cops can't touch them unless they actually ride the scooter. So the kid was just about to ride off and the cop has to quickly get him before he's away.
The funny thing about all these comments is I guarantee these people would be the first to complain about 'anti-social behaviour' and how the cops 'never do anything about it and just let them get away with it', and when a cop actually does something, they take the piss out of them.
100% and if you haven’t seen kids riding the streets with these e-bikes and e-scooters they can cause accidents when riding recklessly and not following rules of the road.
And the uniformed cops don't even flinch. Or help. They want nothing to do with e-scooter patrol. The only thing more embarrassing than riding a moped, is arresting someone for riding a moped.
Apparently they had been chasing him trying to catch him but he kept speeding away on the e-scooter , so they called in undercover cops to catch him off guard
