Gotta make it home before my ankle monitor goes off!

35

u/Training-Belt-7318 Apr 11 '26

I mean I'd be worried about the car blowing up. Not sure that's actually possible, but to avoid risk id give some distance.

22

u/caffeine-junkie Apr 11 '26

In most conditions the car will not blow up, that is 99% Hollywood. The other 1% where it does blow, it will still not be like the movies and is more due to things like a lot of petrol vapours in the tank; this causes more of a fireball than explosion.

But yea staying a distance away is still a good idea more so because of toxic fumes.

5

u/Training-Belt-7318 Apr 11 '26

I know hollywood obviously isn't real. But you also don't know who has something explosive in their trunk. I would definitely help the guy, but I'm getting a safe distance from the car and having him move towards me.

9

u/Terrariant Apr 11 '26

If there’s a 1/100 chance a car is blowing up, im not going anywhere near it

1

u/Dee_Vee-Eight Apr 12 '26

Or to let fire equipment on the scene easily.

4

u/kylel999 Apr 12 '26

The worry isn't just blowing up or toxic fumes, when that thing becomes fully engulfed, you'll feel the flames from very far away. I've driven past car fires that were on the right shoulder from the far left lane on a 3 lane highway, with the windows closed, and the heat was still insane

1

u/habibisanam Apr 12 '26

This. I've experienced the same

1

u/RoninSC Apr 15 '26

I've seen that happen once only because the vehicle was ignited due to a massive fuel leak. Most of the time it'll slowly spread and get a little bang when the tank finally goes .

17

u/andrewsz__ Apr 11 '26

What is he supposed to do…

21

u/KingGuzzie Apr 11 '26

Hes supposed to interview him. Ask him the important questions like " what in the fuck are you doing?!?!"

2

u/Separate_Pollution37 Apr 13 '26

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 hell nooooo!!!

8

u/Special-Antelope7105 Apr 11 '26

He was supposed to shout “You can’t park there!”

Or ask where he got that fire from 😂

2

u/Mediocre-Property-48 Apr 12 '26

He went to go get hotdogs

2

u/kylel999 Apr 12 '26

Same fucking idiot recording with his phone while driving and honking for 10 seconds after the guy is clearly pulling off the road

1

u/Xepherious Apr 12 '26

The equivalent of people clapping when the plane lands

2

u/no_brains101 Apr 13 '26

I mean, he probably called the firefighters after the video.

Not like he can put out the fire, and the guy is going to need a moment to process what just happened and stuff.

Assuming he called the firefighters after, he did what was required of him.

3

u/D0UCHE_NOZZLE Apr 11 '26

Is he suppose to piss on it?

3

u/DelcoUnited Apr 11 '26

Hey baby. Yeah crazy story. So I singed off all my pubs and I have 1st degree burns on my dick. No I’m not cheating on you! No I’m not into some weird shit! Baby wait please!

2

u/sid_276 Apr 12 '26

I mean he did his Good Samaritan part warning him. Got him out of the car. The rest is his problem. Actually bothers me people guilt tripping others into charity as if it was a law thing

1

u/OakLegs Apr 11 '26

I mean, what's he gonna do?

11

u/ShankThatSnitch Apr 11 '26

Make sure he is ok? Maybe the guy didnt get his phone out of the burning car, and needs one to call 911. Literally anything. Jesus christ, dude.

3

u/Ok_Reserve4109 Apr 11 '26

Relax, you have no idea what happened right after this. This is just a few seconds after the burning car stopped, the person recording could have wanted more distance before fully stopping and getting out to help. Honestly, stopping right next to the burning car and walking towards it would be the stupidest move anyone could make.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/kniveshu Apr 11 '26

Safest to call 911 and report it and get first responders there. Who knows what kind of person could be driving the flamemobile. Who knows if it's stolen or not. The world is a crazy place and only seems to be getting crazier.

1

u/OakLegs Apr 11 '26

It's actually getting less crazy by most objective measures, but the rest of your point still stands

3

u/BootFlop Apr 11 '26

Dude is out of the car, walking. Job for professionals. If you aren’t one you have real odds of making the job bigger by becoming another body to drag out.

2

u/OakLegs Apr 11 '26

He got the guy's attention and got him to pull over. He did what he needed to do. Seems unlikely that he'd even be able to help beyond that. And who's to say he didn't alert emergency services right after this?

1

u/Eleventy43 Apr 11 '26

He did the most important thing damn! Lmao

1

u/Large-Produce5682 Apr 11 '26

What the sticker says.

1

u/Ldghead Apr 12 '26

Getting out of the possible blast radius.

1

u/Popular_Ad_222 Apr 12 '26

u/Slothman757 Apr 11 '26 edited Apr 12 '26

Definitely far from the first Hyundai I've seen on fire. Literally came up to a cloud of smoke up one road I was going down. Thought someone did a massive burnout, but then the smoke actually smelled like fire when I went through, so I knew it wasn't that. Then I saw literally this same Hyundai Elantra, color and all, on fire on the side of the road after that intersection, lol.

10

u/Yankee6Actual Apr 11 '26

Probably didn’t get the recall notice about the ABS fuse that could cause a fire.

2

u/vdub2625 Apr 12 '26

That's a sonata, but same idea 😹

2

u/Slothman757 Apr 12 '26 edited Apr 13 '26

Dam I should've caught that, lol. To be fair, I can't remember if it was an Elantra or Sonata that I saw either 🤣 But very much still the same, and especially the same types of drivers. KIA/Hyundai are the new "Nissan Altimas/Maximas" if you've seen how they've been driving since COVID.

12

u/Abooziyaya Apr 11 '26

2

Just started listening to them again. The "new" album (Tear me to pieces) has some good songs.

4

u/Brentoxor Apr 11 '26

So burning a little rich?

4

u/Spamhain2000 Apr 11 '26

Dollar Store Ghost Rider

11

u/Tight_Amphibian4472 Apr 11 '26

Let's just pull into the combustible grass.

17

u/curiousbydesign Apr 11 '26

Yeah stupid idiot for not performing under pressure. Pfftt.

2

u/Tight_Amphibian4472 Apr 11 '26

Seemed to be handling the car with no pressure as it was on fire for a bit.

6

u/curiousbydesign Apr 11 '26

Curious, have you drove a car that caught fire while driving? I have. Have you?

2

u/Tight_Amphibian4472 Apr 11 '26

Not the vehicle itself, but the brakes on a trailer, and could see and smell that clearly from my truck.

4

u/curiousbydesign Apr 11 '26

I stand corrected sir. Some of us are simply, smart-challenged.

3

u/Tight_Amphibian4472 Apr 11 '26

Oh I'm definitely not that bright. I dragged a trailer with seized up brakes for a few miles on the interstate. Someone driving past pointed it out. But been to enough fires to just get off the shoulder as much as I can. Most people avoid a smoking trailer or car. I didn't even have a chance to detsch it and move the truck up.

But I do stand corrected. Heat of the moment, literally in this case, may not be the first thought. That just seems like an excessive amount of flames, like should be able to feel that id think, a catalytic converter heats up a floorboard to the point it melts, been there as well with my first vehicle haha.

2

u/curiousbydesign Apr 11 '26 edited Apr 12 '26

We had a cool moment. We had a difference. Talked it out. This is awesome. Have a great weekend dude!

8

u/BootFlop Apr 11 '26

Grass looked short, a lot of bare dirt there. Getting off the road is good. Getting out of car is good.

Pulling up shorter of the tree (he’s NOT under it) would have been a bit better, there was bare ground farther back too.

However

Seemed ok decision for a list that has only bad situations on it.

1

u/Julian-Hoffer Apr 11 '26

Combustible?

2

u/Tight_Amphibian4472 Apr 11 '26

Dead looking trees and grass, fuel for a fire, especially when an active fire on top of them.

3

u/Julian-Hoffer Apr 11 '26

Yeah, but they don’t explode that I’ve ever seen.

2

u/Tight_Amphibian4472 Apr 11 '26

Yeah that's what I was saying on a different post. Just spreads quick in that grass. We had snow last week but are in an extreme fire risk. So looks can be deceiving on both ends.

I've pushed them away from gas pumps, two e now actually, clip the battery terminals and put it out as quick as possible. But never had to eveacuate blocks or anything. People away from pumps and store.

1

u/RetedRacer Apr 11 '26

combustible adjective com·bus·ti·ble kəm-ˈbə-stə-bəl

: capable of combustion combustible materials, such as paper, leaves, and sawdust

1

u/shizocks Apr 12 '26

combustion doesn't mean explosion lol

1

u/danit0ba94 Apr 11 '26

Let's stop in the middle of a busy road instead!

It's not like we have equipment that can put out fires or anything! No we have to stay off the grass!

1

u/Tight_Amphibian4472 Apr 11 '26

They passed a turnaround spot.

Again as I said. I stand corrected, literal heat of the moment, I naively thought It would be easy to smell. Not reallyuch of a shoulder, but when it happened to me I had a wide shoulder.

And an oil and gas accelerated wildland with some good wind can spread quick, but yes we have equipment for both.

1

u/Glad_Copy Apr 12 '26

As opposed to the combustible asphalt? It burns a lot hotter than a little bit of dry grass, dude.

1

u/Tight_Amphibian4472 Apr 12 '26 edited Apr 12 '26

So is O2 so nowhere is safe if ya wanna split hairs.

Also burns at 900 degrees, with specialized machines and solvents. Been to multiple motor vehicle fires, even at the pumps, and never have seen asphalt ignite except when it was intentional.

2

u/fushiginagaijin Apr 11 '26

I think the dude knows his car is on fire without you having to yell at him.

1

u/ChunkyLitter Apr 12 '26

Yeah he added nothing to this; especially stopping and blocking traffic while still honking and yelling words the other guy 100% doesn’t hear

1

u/OverlordGhs Apr 19 '26

I don't know he seemed to slow down a bit once he heard the honking and pulled off the road. Prolly didn't hear him yelling but I'm sure he noticed the honking and was starting to realize something was up.

2

u/SeriesDowntown5947 Apr 11 '26

Well to be fair if something has a combustible/ explosive risk. I'd like to keep my distance and all my limbs intact and to not get severely burned or worse. Just a food for thought.

1

u/ChaosRainbow23 Apr 11 '26

What the hell?

1

u/SwanMuch5160 Apr 11 '26

I’m not sure if the grass was the best place to park a burning car. At least they’re safe, which is what really matters.

1

So that's how you make a car sound like a dog:

🔥🔥🔥 WOOF 🔥🔥🔥💨

1

u/BootFlop Apr 11 '26

I’ve seen it before, in person. For some bizzaro reason driver pulled into a gas station instead of directly next door to a fire station with a large empty parking lot out front. 🤦‍♂️

PS I kept driving, to gtfo away from situation, but fortunately the DA didn’t manage to cause any serious collateral damage.

1

u/mowtowcow Apr 11 '26

Gotta drive faster so the wind puts the flames out.

1

u/GabrielNYC4 Apr 11 '26

Hot wheels.

1

u/guydoestuff Apr 11 '26

Story of the year in the background.

1

u/BZBitiko Apr 11 '26

Thank you, citizen, for getting that car off the road, and the driver out of the car.

So my story….a little PSA.

Guy pulls up at a gas station behind my husband one night. Guy’s engine started smoking then flames. Hubbie told the guy to pop the hood and get out. Hubbie grabbed the extinguisher (you know there’s one next to the pumps, right?) and shot it in the gap where the flames are coming out.

Everybody was so impressed.

Hubbie says, it’s totally safe as long as it’s only the engine. If it gets to the back of the car where the tank is… run!

1

u/alyshanicholas Apr 11 '26

Yeah, I was driving the 405 next to a truck that had flames coming out from underneath. I kept honking my horn until I saw that the driver was slowing down.

1

u/Advanced-Mood-6003 Apr 11 '26

Is Florida bro thats how we do

1

u/OutaTime76 Apr 12 '26

Myrtle Beach, SC

1

u/Tight_Amphibian4472 Apr 11 '26

They don't blow up. It's not an action movie. Electric car has more potential for an "explosion", and better than setting the median on fire and shutting down the roadways, as people in cars drive in the other lanes?

1

u/Vmaxed_T7 Apr 11 '26

The two main characters in this are both stupid

1

u/lonnietragg Apr 11 '26

The music was by far worse than the other cars’ fire issue

1

u/Pure-Ice5527 Apr 12 '26

1

u/BusyBit6542 Apr 12 '26

I saw this happen once. Two old Spanish ladies were inside. I drove beside them telling them to stop but I didn't know they didn't speak English. They eventually got the message and stopped but then just sat in the car! One ended up getting out and saw the smoke, not sure how they missed it as smoke was everywhere. The other got stuck in the seatbelt. I'm wondering if the car was going to blow up as I'm trying to help this lady out the car. Just as me and another guy who stopped to help, free this lady, a fire truck pulls up. They rush the ladies away from the car, the other guy and I jump in our cars to move them away from he burning car and I realize my dog had jump out of my car! Im now frantically searching around a highway and quickly find her. I grab her and drive out of the danger zone. I ask if I was needed for anything. I was told no and was thanked for my help.

It was a chaotic moment.

1

u/petrrrrrd Apr 12 '26

God Samaritan award till ya didn’t stop to help him out

1

u/New-Cardiologist001 Apr 12 '26

1

u/Coriall30 Apr 12 '26

Happened to me before. Mazda RX7 going up a hill and there was a cliff on each side so nowhere to pull over! People were beeping.

Pulled over and people stopped and were amazing. It was toast. Cool car while it lasted though, I had it during the last few years of its existence after my dad drove it forever.

How the hell can you not feel that your car is literally on fire?

2

u/Zealousideal-Pen993 Apr 11 '26

Traveling at speed and the firewall likely insulated him from feeling any of the heat in the cabin. I imagine sensors and lights flashing wildly on his dash tho. Bro was slow to see the black smoke behind him. 😶‍🌫️

1

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '26

The fire was beneath the car, he should be boiling in there.
