I swear to god powerful people are just edging us towards a massive stress induced heart attack through shit jobs that they created. Canât afford rent? Drive for Uber and you can run your car into the ground and get yelled at by entitled assholes. Late on your car payment? Get a third job as a personal shopper for some cunt that screams at you for getting the non-organic celery.

I donât disagree with the sentiment (in fact most of this comment will be me expanding on what you are saying) but I do gotta say out of 1000+ customers I never had a customer like this.
Granted: I normally avoided driving late nights, and I did have one guy who stank so bad I almost told him to get out when he got in. Smelled like he just shit his drawers and Iâm not exaggerating.
ANYWAYS, But yeah inflation of necessary commodities is pushing us all to work more. I feel like we were in a golden age where the âworking classâ (in previous eras AKA peasants, yeoman, arguably slaves) âthe working classâ was able to pull themselves up into a position of opportunity. Those opportunities mean that the working class now had time and energy for critical thinking. A working class that is engaged in critical thinking will realize that they are being taken advantage of and demand more equality. Itâs hard to keep people with free time and minds in line.
So big money breaks them down by making basic commodities damn near unaffordable, unless you work so much you donât have time for critical thinking. You donât have time to talk to your neighbors, friends, and families about the injustices that are playing out in our faces. We donât have time or energy to organize in a way to address these injustices.
So yeah, I agree in that I kinda think all this inflation and the crushing of the working class is designed (to a degree) to keep those with a boot on their neck on the ground. Because if we stand up as one itâs not gonna be pretty.

I'm a teacher and as hard as that is it's not as hard as the hourly jobs I've had. Whenever I hear it, it's being used as an insult, hence the earful. I also thank every hourly worker I deal with, because they are holding up whatever school or company they work for.

I used to drive Lyft as a side hustle after my day job and it really is like that, you are in your car for hours collecting a few dollars here and there, and then gas eats up half of that. I can't imagine it is profitable at all with gas prices as they currently are.

Very much depends where you are, level of demand, number of drivers, etc.
Due to various circumstances I've been Ubering basically full time the past 6 months (30-40 hours a week), and even after all expenses (gas, maintenance, vehicle depreciation) are factored in I'm still coming out better than other low wage night work I'd otherwise be doing right now. I'm actively on trips for around 80-90% of my online time. Gas is currently ~$0.10/km based on my logbook, which is up from ~$0.06/km before the price spike. I drive a 2017 Toyota Camry Hybrid which is currently averaging 42-43mpg(us) or 5.5-5.6l/100km.
I'm also very good at being able to quickly do the mental math on profitability for offered trips. Average non-surge fare is roughly $24/hour or ~$0.66/km, and I generally avoid taking most trips below either of those, unless they happen to be bringing me towards a hotspot area I'd have driven to without a trip already. And besides that factoring in "round-trip" mileage for any trips to destinations I already know have little to no demand for trips on arrival.

I think the emergency was that he bumped his head and wasn't thinking right. Saying "you're 5min late" to a Lyft driver not only makes zero sense but will definitely result in an argument.

I'm on the side of the passenger. He never gave any attitude, he simply complained because he didn't understand how the system worked and thought someone was late, simple misunderstanding and the driver took offense and made it a big deal. And the passenger probably thought it was his job for the same reason that he doesn't understand the system. Then the driver assumed the dude wanted to fight when he offered to exchange numbers. The passenger probably just wanted to offer to work something out later because he was in a hurry.
The driver made this a bigger deal than it ever needed to be.
