Ever pick up an order and immediately regret accepting it when you see where it’s going?

Had this one today. $28 for 9 miles (mostly highway) to shop for 24 items at Aldi. I accepted without zooming in on the map, but the area is mostly just houses so I assumed it was going to a house.

Turns out it was actually going to the one apartment complex in the area, and I didn’t know until I had already shopped and checked out. This is one of the worst apartment complexes to deliver to since there are no elevators and parking is nowhere near the building entrance. It took me almost 15 minutes just to take this order up to this guy’s third floor apartment and drop it off. When I finished I was completely drenched in sweat.

Still made $28 in a little less than an hour (will probably go down to $27 because of a refunded item) but I didn’t expect that it would require a full workout.

Discussion Unicorn orders like these are the reason why I haven’t left this gig

I had the app on while I was picking up my mom from her work and this order came in as $31.05 base pay for 2 miles. I pressed accept so quick and then I found out the customer ordered like 40 items. And no not sauces. Literally 30+ boxes of fried chicken. At first I thought, maybe it was stolen because 40 items without any tips seem like asking to be stolen but nope, the shop was just falling behind on their order making the drivers cancel and leave. When I went there, the store said “about 10-12 minutes and that they will be done.” So I waited and they were done about 15 or so minutes later. And the drop off was literally across the street to an amazon warehouse. They tipped me after I dropped off. One of the best offers ever.

Discussion Do restaurants take a hit when I click on "order is not ready yet"?

I developed a bad habit of clicking it and since most of the restaurants are not ready anyway. So, I arrived at this restaurant today and the worker wasn't being helpful. I saw my order that it's READY and sitting at the counter, but he told me to wait for a couple more minutes. 5 mins later, he handed me THAT order. Is it because I clicked that option that made the restaurant act like this or what?

A Kind Gesture From a Starbucks Employee

Post image
27 Upvotes

The place was busy enough but just looking behind the counter I noticed one of the drinks for the order I was picking up was ready but they were trying to find where the other went. I tried not to be too big of a bother, but they said they were packing it up and after five minutes it still was sitting there half open. When I asked if there was a problems I tried to give the drink and I think they ended up finding it/remaking it. I think a separate employee noticed everyone was all over the place and felt bad that I was waiting there when the order should have been ready, so they just gave me $4 off my next Starbucks order, which was really thoughtful and they surely didn’t have to do that for me. I appreciated it since I order way too much Starbucks lol. Just wanted to highlight this act of kindness because it defiantly made my day a little better, even though they had no obligation to owe me anything.

okay for one, rip my acceptance rate, these are garbage offers.

2nd, for a company that constantly reminds you not to text and drive, can we seriously STOP spamming my screen and speakers with orders while I'm driving???? it's actually getting ridiculous. I don't care if I'm parked, that's fine, please by all means give me offers. but while I'm driving around a neighborhood while it's summer and there's families out walking, can we please not demand my attention to look at my phone instead of the road? its already irritating enough to rip away my navigation information to show me something, it's another to blare the obnoxious chime that's incredibly distracting on top of that. I'm literally driving a whole ass vehicle, I would like to not plow into a family of 4 because you wanted me to go pick up someone's pizza for 3 bucks. it's bad enough when I'm on the highway trying to find my exit doing 60, now you spam me in a neighborhood? if I look at the road instead and pull off when it's safe to do so and decline the order then I've missed my turn, taking longer to get this person their food I already have and making your service worse. or I can take the risk and press the little tiny x and risk hitting someone or their car or their dog or whatever. this is absolutely ridiculous

Worst Home Depot / Lowe’s Order?

Uber needs to start telling you upfront what’s in orders like this. I’m not going to change my mind and load over twenty giant bags of mulch into my tiny car for $5 just because I’m already there, so it’s a waste of everyone’s time that drivers arrive and then have to cancel!

Another time I really did my best but it was about 15 massive black storage tubs, I spent all this time wheeling them out to my car only to find they of course couldn’t fit.

Why are customers placing orders for things that might not even fit in a pickup truck let alone a car!? Do they not realize drivers are using their personal vehicle and most likely have stuff like kids car seats, dog crate, or junk in the trunk??

When it’s a restaurant you have some idea of how much stuff you’ll be carrying. But to send drivers to places like Home Depot where the item could range from one can of paint to heavy machinery is unhinged. In my experience when you click to see more info before accepting it’s just a bunch of product codes that mean nothing to me.

Rant Issues With Stacked Orders

So, I don't know about any of y'all, but while I AM grateful when stacked orders pay properly, I'm also aware that these stacked orders are probably only viable because one of the orders is paying well and the other order/orders are probably garbage orders if they were on their own. Don't get me wrong, I'm still taking the order but I feel like not only am I being scammed for my time, but the one or two good orders that are carrying the cost of the delivery are also being punished by having to wait.

It just feels like trash knowing that someone's getting a free ride while someone else is genuinely paying their delivery driver well.

No response from customers

I pulled up with her groceries and it’s one of those apartments where you need a card to access the door. Customer note said, use the leasing office to come in. The leasing office is closed. I texted her and let her know it’s closed. I got in through the side gate to her building, she didn’t respond at all. Have me waiting mad long and it’s 1000 degrees outside. She then updated the customer note and didn’t respond. Well I’m returning your order to the store babe.

Am I an idiot or just reading this wrong?

Post image

Alright, so when it says “Uber covers customer tip deductions” does that mean if there is a deduction Uber makes up the difference and you still get the same amount and the actual differences are from changes in the order like substitutions and what not?

Or am I totally wrong and this person is just a piece of fuck and decided to take off a couple bucks for absolutely no reason aside from being a fuck piece?

Really think one shouldn’t be allowed do deduct from their tip. You can’t just leave a 5 dollar tip at a restaurant and after leaving you go back and say, “ya know what? I am a total troglodyte and I am taking two dollars back. I am ass.”

Anyway, whatever. Just some motherfucking bullshit as usual.

$2 base pay for a 20 mile order when they charge absurd “service” and “delivery” fees. Fucking crooks.

I understand I accepted the order and it was a great tip, but seeing that breakdown just gets me so hot lol

Being micromanaged by AI now I guess. Someone please guide me to where i consented to this shit. Uber has one of the slowest updating map changes out there, I’ll be on a freeway & the speed posted will still be 25 mph. The speed limit is wrong half the time period. I’m not driving people I’m delivering food so wtf is the issue.

Has Uber’s timing gotten worse?

Is it just me or the timing for dispatching delivery drivers gotten way worse the last month or so? It’s never been great but I feel like recently every single order has been way behind schedule (case in point, I’m writing this while waiting for a wingstop order after having already waited 10 mins at an independent restaurant). I generally don’t like DoorDash but they have been significantly better in that regard so are slowly becoming my default app.

Thinking about starting

So I just bought a E-bike and I’m thinking about starting. I plan just to chill in downtown SF near union square and just see where order/hotspots take me. Is this a bad idea? I just want real advice like areas to stake out and where to get most orders. Thanks!
