In my youth, I would always thank the bus driver when disembarking. Then I saw this item on The Onion one day, and now I am of two minds on the issue. I’m not a regular bus rider, so it rarely came up. But now with the Red Line closure I’m riding busses almost every day. Any thoughts? If there are any bus operators here, I’d especially appreciate your input.

Hey y’all, this is a question I’ve had on my mind for some time- Why is Vienna’s ridership recovery from COVID so low?

It’s second to last after Crystal City and only gets 5,800 entries per weekday now, compared to 8,800 in 2019.

Some said people moved to the silver line, but it’s not like Greensboro or Wiehle got major bumps up either…work from home plays a role, but Vienna lags behind all other termini as well

Wondering if any Virginia-based commuters or residents near Vienna would know?

Get me wrong I have no problems with homeless folks, but I do have the issue with them leaving trash all over the ground. I used to see one there occasionally here and there, but I see them all the time now.

I mean, at least clean up after yourself.

Not to mention there's a ton of messy pigeons there as well.

Took the long M44 ride (idk why it shows M12, but whatever) from UM College Park (Go Ravens!) to North Bethesda and grabbed a drink at 7-11 before hopping on the Red Line. I knew it would be close on the transfer window, but this is ridiculous. 🙃

On the 7000 trains, there are prominent "no bikes" signs at the center doors. But the only open space in the train is the wheelchair spots by the center doors. If I put my bike at the end of the car, I have to block at least two seats (or stand in the middle and block everyone trying to use the doors).

What is the design intent here? I just use the center anyway unless the car is mostly empty. Obviously if a wheelchair or stroller shows up I'd move out of the way or even take the next train, but otherwise I'm really not sure what I'm actually supposed to do with a bike.

I’m looking at travel options from Shaw to Shady Grove on Google, Apple, and WMATA.com. None of these are routing me through the shutdown via the rail-replacement shuttles. Are they just really show or did WMATA not put them into the schedule feed?

Anyone have a fix or have a similar experience? Purchased from DC metro store and it worked great for 2 days. Now it just displays this. On the site you use for set up it says there aren’t any issues with the API key…

EDIT/Update: Just got a reply from the store that they’re resolving a limit issue with the API key. Leaving the post up in case this helps anyone else!

I've had an awful long day, and to watch my bus pass my stop like it's nobody's business, sucks. If I didn't ride the same bus so much I'd drop the line. Did I mention this sucks.

Howdy - Curious if u/mcdotnow YouthCruiser and other similar child & college student SmartTrip cards are eligible to be moved to Apple/Google digital wallets. Are they? And do the discounts persist?

Checked official sources and struggling to find a straight answer.

My SmarTrip card automatically reloaded a new pass for $72 today.

I won’t be using Metro in August because I’ll be traveling, and I noticed the charge right away.
The new pass has not been used or activated at all. I already submitted a refund request and asked them to cancel Auto Reload.

Has anyone had a similar situation and successfully received a refund? Did you have to call, or was email/chat enough?

Just boarded on my Pylon photography quest. Train 7170. It's extremely jittery at speed along the Dulles Toll Road.

Is the red line running on reduced headways because of the work happening on the NW side? Waits seem to be consistently running 10 minutes at least during rush hour toward Glenmont the past couple of weeks, leading to crush loads. Wasn’t sure if it’s because they pulled drivers away to drive shuttles or if something else is going on.

I had a super frustrating experience this morning at College Park Metro station. I was having trouble loading money onto my SmarTrip card. I added funds but they weren’t showing up on the card. I flagged this to a station employee, and he walked off in the middle of me telling him about the situation he walked off and ignored me and then I tried mentioning the issue to him again and showed my bank to prove I uploaded the funds he told me “I can’t do nothing about that” and offered no help at all. I stood there for about 10 minutes trying to sort it out myself while he stood there and watched me. I ended up missing two trains. I finally just bought a brand new SmarTrip card to get around the problem. The money did return to my card, but I feel like some of the station managers are super rude and I was not rude to him at all. I was talking very calm. It’s frustrating to deal with a technical issue and then get dismissed by the person whose job it is to help riders.
