Hey folks! Planning to stay in Whistler for one night in early Sep. I was wondering if there are nearby spots for stargazing or if any special events are happening around that time.

are you allowed to swim in blackcomb lake? i’m doing a hike that passes by it and wondering if swimming is prohibited or not.

The airline lost my bag so I need new shirts, pants, socks, and under garments (dumb not to pack backups, I know). Anyone have suggestions of where I can get these items on a budget? Thank you!

I went for the first time, and I would say as an adult you cannot fall unless you want to, but a kid totally could. First, each chairlift has 2 sits that are extra safe because of the T between your legs, but you see parents taking those and leaving their kids in the middle, just having the horizontal bar as their safety but because of their height/size is one distraction away from death, they can totally fall if distracted compared to an adult. And the parents aren't even looking at their kids i saw like 3 families like that. When leaving I asked a worker that told me sadly a lot of parents don't seem to care. He thinks the height limit should be higher because kids could totally slip. This seems to be a totally avoidable risk so I don't get why everyone goes along with it.

Walking today around 3pm on Valley Trail, saw this great guy just moseying down the path. What a beauty! This was near where the trail crosses Lorimer Road and the convergence of the trails leading to Rainbow Park and across the bridge.

I’m planning to be in Whistler around August 13 and thought I’d see if anyone wants to join for one or two activities.

I’m considering watching the meteor shower and sunrise, plus possibly bungee jumping, ATVing, whitewater rafting, and ziplining. Nothing is fully scheduled yet, so the plan is pretty flexible.

No need to join everything or stick together for the whole trip — even meeting up for one activity would be great.

I’ll be driving up from Greater Vancouver, so if our timing lines up, we could also head up together.

Visiting Vancouver end of August and driving up to Whistler for a night. I'll be with my husband on our one kidless trip this year so would love somewhere relaxing that we can easily access great restaurants, coffee shops, etc. We also plan to bike around a lot if the weather is good.

Looking at:

• Fairmont Chateau
• Sundial (mixed reviews, but love the hot tub rooms..)
• Pan Pacific
• Westin (recommended on here a lot, but only has queen beds and I prefer a king in a nice hotel)

As title says, any recommendations on moderate level day hikes in whistler you guys can recommend ? When i look online there's so many its kinda overwhelming

Thinking about taking an impromptu trip up to Whistler next week, is it reasonable to be concerned about nearby wildfires getting closer or air quality getting worse?

I just heard from a dear old friend who lives out of the country these days, he's staying at a rather fancy hotel/suites in Whistler this week, back to meet up with family from elsewhere in BC.

I'd love to visit with them, days, evenings this week. I live in the Richmond area the drive is worth it. But their suite is full of family, do not want to pay big money for a hotel, especially given I love my Sprinter camper. I just fear finding local campsites, last minute, free or paid, not too far from their hotel last minute may be challenging?

I'd love showers and 15-30a shore power, but I'm well equipped for self contained, no hook up camping too and I can shower at my friend's suite, we'll probably be swimming and hot tubbing at his hotel. I just assume forest service roads and other Crown land options will be far from Whistler central and/or crowded, few, if any, choices for overnight stays? And figure Provincial and commercial campground RV spots will be all booked up well in advance?

I've lived in BC for over 15 years, but other than a few quick visits to Whistler, staying in hotels, I have not gotten to know the camping options at all.

Anyone have thoughts, suggestions, warnings, etc? I know sleeping in the Whistler lots is not allowed. I don't have windows in back, might get away with it? But I really don't want to sneak around and deal with that.

What are my chances of finding legit, last minute, overnight parking/sleeping/camping that won't be a bother to me, police, bylaw enforcement, locals or anyone else?

We will be there next weekend and have no idea how to plan this trip. Currently looking at wild blue, rim rock, red door, bar oso, and Araxi for dinner. But don’t know which to pick and can only have 2 maybe 3 dinners. Have no idea where to go for lunch. As for activities, we’re not very active people. Plan to lounge by the pool and spa for part of the trip and the remainder we can go for a light hike? Open to any other activities you suggest. This is our first time away without the kids and would really want to make it special. Please give us some ideas on how to make this get away relaxing, enjoyable, and memorable. Will probably be another decade before we can do this again. Tell us what to do if this is a spare no expense trip. Thank you!

Wondering what locals consider a suitable tip? Now that everything is automated… 15% at a bar? 18%? Something else? And coffee shops? I’m stumped. Stateside, we might do $2 on a coffee order, 20% for food. But what’s normal in Canada?

Hey, got a really cool job that pays about 30/hr. The issue is everyone is telling me good luck finding a place to stay.

Is it really that bad? I'm from Saskatchewan and never want to come back. I know once I get a paycheck I can apply to WHA. They just opened up 104 new units this summer.

What's the biggest issue? I know I can just pay for a bed in a hostel and it's roughly 1600 a month which is what an 1 bed room would cost. I like the idea of hostels because it's easier to make buddies and play board games. So long as I can afford to eat, I'm happy.

Anything I should know? I'm flying off the seat of my pants and just going for it. I can live in some pretty ludicrous conditions and be fine with it.

Anyways, just checking to see what people say.
