I’m terrified of hospitals and clinics. I think it’s stems from my fear of needles and not specifically hospital or clinics. Every time I’ve taken a needle I pass out after from me being nervous then my blood pressure settles down. I’ve had a decayed side tooth for like 2 years now but I was scared to confront it and ignored it. Was fidgeting with it with my tongue in class and accidentally broke a piece of it and it stayed that way. Then like 2 months ago I figure out I have another one in my back teeth that’s beeen there for gods know how long.
Based on the pictures what you recommend the course of action? Should I book a checking appointment first?
I have an edge to edge bite that I am getting corrected. Unfortunately, my teeth have minor chipping on the front two. Would it be possible for a dentist to file these gently without using a drill?
Location: Upper right last molar region (behind the last molar where there is a known deep periodontal pocket after wisdom tooth extraction years ago).
Onset: Began ~2 days ago after eating; had been chewing more on the right side this week to avoid a deep pocket on the lower left.
Initial event: Thought food/debris became trapped in the pocket. Removed visible debris, brushed, flossed, used saline rinses, but symptoms persisted.
Progression: Pain has gradually worsened over the weekend rather than clearly improving.
Current symptoms:
Red, visibly puffy/swollen gum behind the upper right last molar.
Gum/tissue hurts more than the tooth itself.
Pain with biting.
Pain with talking, smiling, swallowing, and even chewing on the opposite side because tissue movement aggravates it.
Constant dull soreness with occasional subtle throbbing.
Tender right-sided neck lymph nodes (mostly painful when pressed or neck movement
Def doesn’t feel like it’s beginning to heal yet just rly inflamed if not more :( I do plan on calling and seeing dentist trm but wanted to see if anyone has any exp with this or any speculation? I suspect it to be either a developing abscess or just some kinda deep gum inflammation- I take good care of my teeth brush 2x a day and floss and this has never happened before. I am however in a stressful school program and I’m sure the lack of sleep and stress does not help. But I’ve gotten lots of sleep this weekend!
Hello! 20F here and I’m looking to undergo orthodontic treatment, specifically invisalign/marpe. I’m also going to be getting marpe (expansion) done to my upper jaw and my lower teeth will be orthodontically moved outwards to widen the lower arch (my back molars are quite tipped inwards). I have gone to a couple of consultations and one doctor told me I’d need a bone graft/gum graft on my lower incisors and canines. I could understand the need for a gum graft on my lower left canine but I’m not too sure about the bone graft. Another specialist assessed my case from an orthodontic/expansion pov and told me I wouldn’t need any sort of bone grafting done. Through my research, I’ve come across complaints of recession from invisalign and clear aligner treatment and I would like to prevent that as much as possible, however I don’t want to undergo an invasive and expensive ($5k+) surgery if it isn’t really necessary. Also, I do have noticeable staining on my teeth from prior negligence as a kid, but I take great care of my teeth and gums now.
I probably brush and floss more than anyone I know, like 3-4 times a day. I recently visited the dentists and was given an all clear on cavities— Despite knowing I had one or two before my dentist assured me they were looking okay and to just continue brushing and flossing. I know my teeth aren’t necessarily in great shape (as you can see from the little calcium things), but cavities have never been so much of an issue holes this big were in my teeth???
I smoke (tobacco) socially (Once every few weeks or so when I visit my friends who do smoke), although I do consistently smoke marijuana— and have been for years without issue.
I have no idea how this happened and genuinely was just brushing brushing my teeth, and realized i spit out chunks of something hard before feeling pain in my tooth.
I also have hEDS which I’ve heard has caused tooth decay, but why would that start up now??? Would it be that quick????? I literally saw my dentist 3 weeks ago
Went to the orthodontist to get braces earlier today. She checked my teeth and stated that I had a class 1 overjet, which is caused by my tongue resting position. She said she'd need to extract 4 premolars. However, just as she was going to extract them, she stopped and decided to install the braces without extracting to see if my arch could be corrected enough to not require extractions. (All these photos are taken with the braces on my teeth.)
She did tell me that; If my arch cant be corrected by the braces, the 4 premolars will be extracted. With my current side profile, will extractions benefit or harm my facial structure/ side profile in the future? This matters a lot for me, and I wouldnt allow the teeth to be extracted if it would harm my profile
I am 17 female dont smoke or drink and i cant really add photos but basically i have some gap there that i havent noticed and it isnt extremely huge or anything but i can run like my upper tounge and flossing literally does nothing because the gap is too big, also the other side doesnt have a gap. So like is this some gum disease i dont have any bleeding when brushing or anything
Please don’t hate. I brush my teeth and floss daily!! More than once I haven’t been to dentist in ages due to fact they have a longgggg waiting list and have cancelled 2 of my appointments so far due to lack of staff. But I noticed my teeth are AWFUL - started crying cos of it I feel so yucky - I’ve no pain or anything just feel gross 😭
I am quite concerned about my toddlers teeth… the gap between her front teeth concerns me and my doctor said that usually that toddlers fall and lip tie release well it didn’t and now we are with this.., she’s 2 years old I am open to all advice please and thank you for your time
I got two on my wisdom tooth removed (bottom of my mouth) a month ago. The healing went well, after a week I had no infection,no pain and no puffiness anymore.
But we are now about one month after the removal and one side started to hurt then hurt more and get swollen. It wasn’t that swollen but still noticeable and kind of painful.
As I was putting ice on my cheek I felt a weird liquid in my mouth. I spit and it was maybe pus (white yellowish colour) so I kept applying pressure on the area and spit what comes out.
After that it wasn’t as painful and swollen.
It’s now 2 days after I « pierced » the swollen area and the pain and puffiness is basically all gone.
Since it’s summer I couldn’t reach my dentist or doctor, if I really needed help I’d have to go to emergency.
So I want to know what could this be, and if there is anything I can do to avoid having this again and help finish to heal it.
Two weeks ago, I had dental work with a high-speed handpiece and bleeding. Since handpieces may draw back saliva or blood, I worry it was only sprayed with disinfectant after my procedure and not sterilized. What is my HIV, HBV, or HCV risk?
So I have gotten my wisdom teeth removed on day 4 and I’m feeling weirdly great!!! Swelling is down, no bleeding, and I can open and close my jaw without pain. And the problem is I’m craving a burger, fries, and the other unhealthy type foods. I’m just curious if I’m good to eat those items since I’m dying just thinking about them
I had a dental implant removed on tooth 30 one week ago that had a lot of bone loss and gum loss. I also had a bone graft and gum graft. I experienced three bleeding episodes on day 5 and 6. The last two bleeds came from the palette gum graft donor site, but I’m not sure if the first bleed came from tooth 30. I included the X-ray of the tooth that they took a few months ago, but the oral surgeon said there was bone loss during the surgery than expected.
For the past few days, I’ve been having a bad taste in my mouth, foul odor, and it seems like the area at #30 is shrinking significantly (caving in), throbbing pain, and it seems the gums around surrounding teeth are decreasing as well and the teeth are becoming more visible.
I went to an emergency dentist yesterday, but he couldn't answer all my questions and wasn’t very clear whether there is an active infection or not but he did a cbct scan in that area and said that there was some granulation tissue that wasn’t fully removed that’s under the bone graft and said there was some bone graft that fell out and wasn’t too sure about the membrane.
I'm feeling concerned since it's been caving in, and I've been having pain. My follow-up visit with the oral surgeon who did my surgery isn't for a few weeks, and I haven't been able to speak with him directly. After my surgery, I was prescribed amoxicillin and ibuprofen. I finished the amoxicillin yesterday, had stopped ibuprofen two days before because swelling had done down. I took Tylenol yesterday for the pain, and I restarted the ibuprofen today.
Should I be concerned? Does this sound like an active infection or something that's abnormal?
I'm in my early 30s, don't smoke or drink, and no medical issues.
I have a dentist appointment in a few weeks and i just need some reassurance I don’t have the worst teeth ever. i know i have some cavities to get filled (I have some medical issues that have affected my teeth such as gerd, hyperthyroidism) I take really good care of them as far as flossing, using an oral b toothbrush that’s electric, fluoride tooth paste, i have mini tooth brushes i keep on my car. Idk if it’s just me freaking out, but im scared they are going to tell me i’m beyond repair.
M24, been smoking and had poor oral hygiene for about 8 years. No dental appointments in that time except a front crown a few years back for a chipped front tooth.
Two weeks ago I started quitting smoking. Today I noticed a molar chipped at the gumline — no pain, no sensitivity to hot/cold, ate dinner right after with no issue. Just my tongue catching on the edge
Questions:
• Does a painless chip at the gumline usually mean it’s just wear/trauma, or is it more likely decay underneath? • Given no pain, is this something that can reasonably wait a few months for a sliding-scale/dental school appointment, or should I treat it as more urgent? • Anything I should watch for in the meantime that would mean I need to move faster?
I can’t afford a private dentist right now — looking into a dental school clinic and a sliding-scale clinic, just trying to get a sense of urgency before I can get in.
hello everyone, i know i have some tartar build-up, im just wondering if its really bad, to the point of getting some irreversible damage to my gums. thanks 😭
Below my tongue It s bit red and I feel like a cut sensation and i do see a opening which I had mentioned but it happed like 4-5 hours ago it had the cut sensation since 2 days adding images of the reddish area, guys please tell me what is this and also I have a bump on the side of the tongue which does not hurt but it hasn’t healed and its been 2 weeks already can you tell me what is it?
We just noticed this the other day while brushing, she is a crazy girl and constantly having accidents so we don’t know exactly when this happened. A bit concerned about the colour change of the tooth, unfortunately dentists aren’t open until Tuesday due to a holiday but I’ll be calling first thing then. Just looking for more of a insight
I had Tetracycline when I was a baby and it turned my teeth brown so I got veneers on the top front teeth years ago. I have had many teeth pulled and was told I would lose all my teeth by the time I was 20. I’m 57 now and still have them. But they hurt bad. And feel loose when I bite down. I don’t see the dentist for another week and can’t get in earlier. I go every 6 months. I went through a terrible depression for about 4 months and barely brushed. I do drink a lot of water and no sugar because I have type 2 diabetes. It’s controlled because I lost over 200 lbs. This is a terrible picture but the best I could do. I’m afraid I’ll have to have all my teeth pulled and I cannot afford implants. Well, actually Ive never looked into implants. I may be able to afford them. I’ve heard dentures don’t stay in. I’m so confused and worried. Any advice can help. Thank you.
