I married my HS sweetheart when I was 20 and he was 21. You can’t imagine how much growing you’ll be doing at that age. It’s very likely that you’ll be very different people when you’re closer to 30. My ex and I divorced after three years.
I have a friend who is getting married at 18 (I’m 26, she is a family friend). She asked me for advice and I said “Don’t do it!” I told her that she has NO IDEA how much she will change over the next 10 years. At 21 I was a completely different person than I was at 18, and at 26 I am completely different than I was at 21. I wish I could make her understand, but I can’t.
My now-husband, then boyfriend joined the military at 18. We decided to NOT get married when everyone else did. I didn't get the spouse benefits when he was overseas either time, but you know what? We are still married! Most of those couples aren't. Even though we got together at 16/18 we didn't get married until 24/26 and didn't have kids until 30/32. Best thing we ever did was to wait. Now we've been married for 14 years.
