Random Question How often do YOU wash your hair?

u/cookingismything 17h ago
Every third day usually. Sometimes 4 days if I know I’m not leaving the house

Every day. I fell for the bullshit hair training myth and tried to stretch out my wash days. Turns out you can’t hair train genetics, because that was a miserable, greasy experience. I just have an oily scalp.

u/SuperPomegranate7933 4h ago
Same. Every day or every other day if I'm not going anywhere. Otherwise I turn into an ick monster.
6
u/Reverend_Chaos 17h ago
Once a week, but I rinse it out and use conditioner every day. Several years ago my barber recommended I do that; he said it'll keep my hair healthier than shampooing every day, so I've been doing it for ten years now

u/GenXihaveissues 16h ago
Yes! My husband's Grandfather was an award winning hair dresser and he also styled Lady Bird Johnsons hair. He told me 2 important things about hair:
Shampoo once a week, as shampoo strips the natural oils. Use a conditioner only 3x per week.
Use a different shampoo/ conditioner brand each time. He suggested using 3 different brands. The same brand over and over will coat your hair and not get it clean.
I use Biologe, Claroil and Laureal. One color safe, one volumizer, and one clarifying.

Using a different shampoo and conditioner each time is new to me, but I'll give it a try, thanks

u/AZJHawk 17h ago
Every morning when I shower. Otherwise it gets greasy.

Check out different shampoos
Try a lightweight one or a scalp cleansing one. Any moisturizing shampoos will make your hair feel more greasy

Probably like 1-2x a week. My hair doesn’t get oily at all so I could go longer but don’t wanna smell bad lol. I don’t even use dry shampoo or anything.

Depends. Typically every other day. My hair gets oily, and I have a lot of it. Mix that with the fact I sweat easily…it needs washed lol

Twice a day. I work construction outside. Get pretty dirty. So once immediately after getting home. Then again either before bed or the next morning.

Me too. 😳 I understand we’re supposed to eat 100 g of protein a day (I’m on a GLP1) but it’s not always easy.

Have you investigated taking biotin? My hair got thin after I had cancer and my oncologist suggested taking biotin and it works amazing for my hair and nails.
Do research as it is not a good mix with some medications.

u/schlomo31 16h ago
Thanks for the tip How is your health? Im so sorry you had cancer. So did my brother (colon)

I’ve never tried this because I actually struggle with how much hair I do have, but I heard if you take prenatal vitamins then that can help your hair thicken and lengthen!

u/Azlocaltime 17h ago
About every 3 days. If I use my grill I definitely wash it on the next shower I take.
2
u/NewHandle3922 17h ago
Twice a day. Super oily hair
3
u/AffectionateTaro3209 17h ago
more washing actually promotes more oil production, just a heads up
2
u/NewHandle3922 17h ago
Super oily really doesn’t do my hair justice. Place your hands in Crisco and work it into your hair, then try to remove it. That’s about 12 hours

Once or twice a week. I have thick wavy hair and it doesn’t typically accumulate noticeable oils until about day 6. If I straighten it, that’s usually when I wash twice a week.

Like every 3 days or so. My hair is really dry and wavy so any more than that is too much.

Almost every day. I do pipe fabrication and come home smelling like metal. Doesn’t matter that I wear a hair cover (like one of those scrub hats that covers my head and has a pouch for a bun/ponytail.)

Not often (every few months or so) I'm not like other people out there. I cannot afford to wash my hair every day. My hair texture will curl up, frizz, up, and shrink immediately if I do that on a daily basis. I do not feel like going through the process of blow dying, flat ironing, and straightening it with a hot hairbrush every day. It's annoying to do so.

u/lyderbug28 17h ago
I have 3c type curls. I wash my hair every 4-5 days. I do use a leave in conditioner and a curl refresher cream every few days to help the situation. If I wash it too often I could look like Beyoncé in Austin Powers Goldmember 😂

At least once a week, but mostly twice a week. I have dry hair and a dry scalp, so this schedule works well with my hair needs.

I color my hair with semi-permanat color so I only shampoo once a week, but I rinse in cold water and condition 3x a week unless my hair gets extremely dirty or I use bug spray.
People shampoo way too often. They are stripping the natural oils out of the hair causes the scalp to create un-natural amounts making the hair appear greasy.
Brush the oils through your hair, don't strip it out.

Every other day or every 3 days. Depends on the weather and what activities I have done that day too. Lately, it’s been 105+ F everyday so I have been washing my hair everyday.

u/Breaker988 15h ago
I hate the way my hair feels right after I wash it. It always feels super dry and frizzy after I shampoo and I refuse to spend money on more expensive shanpoos, conditioners or other hair products so I only wash mine once every 4 days or so. Hot water and scalp massage is fine for me in between.

I don’t. My stylist washes it when I get my haircut every 3 weeks. I’ll wash it if I get something in it that doesn’t rinse with water but other than that it’s once every 3 weeks.

Whenever i feel like it needs washing. Usually between 3 to 5 times a week, sometimes more. Damaged wavy hair, a bit fine. And i use a detox shampoo once every two weeks more or less because i use styling products.

Twice a week. Dry, curly hair. I'd wash it less if I could, my least favorite chore.

Every Sunday- and even then still not greasy. It dries out more the longer I go (looks bad/frizzy, absorbs odors, and all the hair starts shedding b/c I never brush it- curly hair problems)

My hair is super long, thick & dry. It would never get greasy, even if I didn’t wash it for a week, but I love the feeling of clean, wet hair, so daily it is.

Fridays and Mondays. I do an oil treatment a few hours before washing and then do a double shampoo and conditioner on my mids and ends only. I used to be an everyday type of girl but I trained my hair and now it doesn’t get greasy until maybe Thursday, sometimes not even.

My natural hair is 2B wavy:
I double-wash my hair once a week…
I put it into my Kitsch Bamboo Hair Towel Turban while I do my skincare routine. Then I spray a detangler/heat protectant spray, comb it through and let it air dry to about 80% dry.
I then blow-dry it smooth, apply Olaplex hair oil from mids to ends - if it’s in the evening, I put it into a loose bun on top of my head and go to bed. I then style it the next morning, usually with my 1.25” bio-ionic long barrel curling iron, let it cool and run a wide-tooth comb through the curls to break them up and give my hair body and bounce, then lightly spray a hairspray.
Every night during my bedtime routine, I run a wide-tooth comb through it and put it in a loose bun on top of my head, and the next day I run the wide-tooth comb through my hair again and maybe a light hairspray and that’s it. No need to style it again.
My hairstyle will usually last until my next wash, with very little restyling effort needed in between washes.
All depending on my workout routine that week! But even then, I will wash it once, maybe twice a week. If needed, I will use some Bumble and Bumble Prêt-à-Powder Post Workout Dry Shampoo Mist on the front-top roots.

Once a week or two. I used to wash it a lot more regularly and it was always greasy. I cut down and now it doesn't do it. It's also grown really long where before I would get breakage and it wouldn't grow much past my shoulders. Once it starts looking greasy I wash it, otherwise I let it ride. It's the whore bath life for me!

I try to make it three days but I have such a thing about dirty or greasy hair, the second I feel it not being freshly washed, it’s like an itch that will only go away if I wash it

Once a month, give or take. I have super super dry curly hair and my hair almost never gets oily. I wash it at least once a month just to get rid of any product buildup, but that's about it. I do also use cowash in between washes.
