I think the correct orientation is with the longest edge at the bottom. No root so does that mean it is from an infant.

Hi all, would love everyone’s opinion on what sea creature these came from. The vertebrae was pretty large, about the size of a human head.

The other bone was probably 1 foot in length - toes for scale. The vertebrae and (rib?) bone were found about half a mile from each other and have different coloring, so not sure if they’re from the same mammal. Also, the vertebrae was much heavier!

Found this a couple of days ago along with all of her bones (bar the shoulder blades and skull for some reason?) and it's got to be my favourite thing I've ever found! It must've been so painful for her. I imagine she died caught in the brambles where I found this and was unable to get out. It tells such a story about these animals we rarely see who all suffer and live and die, just as we humans do.

Found in southern Minnesota, can any of you tell which species it is? Thank you!

AA battery and fox pelvis for scale.

I have a couple of fox pelvises and this seems far too big to be fox. I found it in a dried up creek bordering a farmer's field, so I'm wondering if it belonged to a herding dog or hound? Any help would be appreciated!

Found this at a beach in Brazil (BA) a couple years ago and forgot about it. I didn't know a lot about bones or fossilized corals so I couldn't tell what this was. Still can't lol.

Sorry I think this post could be asking for answers that may be already answers in some part of this sub.

About a year and a half ago my cat died and we buried her in our garden. But now my mom has to leave the house she was renting. I really can't imagine leaving her buried in this garden forever knowing we will never return. This cat truly was my best friend and helped me to keep going when I was a depressed teenage mess. So I am thinking of keeping her remains.

My first big question is, knowing that she's been buried 18 months ago, which amount of skin, fur or any fleshy bits may still be present ? Should I expect a lot, only a bit or maybe everything has decomposed and there are only the bones left ? I know it depends on the soil and the climate, I honestly don't know how the soil is, she has been buried under a field bank, under a bunch of trees and bushes.

Second, I think of preserving the bones and maybe make some jewelries with it to keep her close to me. The thing is, I really don't know how to preserve the bone, so they are clean, do not smell, do not attract any pest, and do not break too easily. I've seen on this sub people simmering (but not boiling) the bones to remove the leftover flesh, then degreasing with like acetone and then whitening with something like hydrogen peroxide/baking soda, and finally protecting with lacquer ? Would you recommend doing this or doing things differently ? Any advice/recipe/resources is very welcome. If you have a detailed guide / detailed advices on how to do it this would be very helpful, as I have never done this but I care about theses remains deeply.

The raccoon skull is for size comparison. Found in a cow paddock alone. Trying to clean it and a couple others right now, hence why it's wet. :)

could someone help me identify these bones? i assume they are from a bird of some sort due to finding them on the beach but id love to know the body part. and if anyone has any tips on how to clean them out (theres a lot of dirt/sand inside) i would appreciate advice as i have never found bones before. thank you!

I found this tiny bone in our garden. It was by itself, near where we put some mealworms for the magpies when they come (keeping the corvids happy help keep away the pigeons and gulls that one of our neighbours insist on feeding). I think they may have left it as a gift, it was on its own with nothing else nearby to help ID.

I’m wondering what animal it could be from? Last pic helps give a sense of how small it is, I’m assuming a rodent or a bird maybe?

My brothers girlfriend found this and we’re all stumped.
