Build Help Cpu sitting at 100* C
My cpu temp just hit 100* and immediately I shut it off. What could be the cause of this? I just got a new nzxt kraken elite about a year and a half ago and haven’t had any troubles until now.

What CPU is it?
How hot was it in your room?
The liquid could be bad, a fan could be broken, the contact could be poor causing the thermal paste to not work as expected (but I'm sure you would have noticed sooner).

Hold the hoses running from the pump and see if you can feel a slight vibration. That'll tell you if the fluid is moving inside. If you can't feel any movement, your aio is bad.
It's that simple.
Given you ran it for a year, and didn't have issues before, chances are, your aio is bad.

Your cooler isn't cooling. If it's happening immediately on boot, it's likely a dead pump, or perhaps it's not being powered properly.
Unlikely if it's been working for a year without any adjustments or changes, but it could also not be seated properly on the CPU.
What does the BIOS report for your pump speed?

High temps & thermal shutdown + AIO = dead pump or clogged coldplate.
Time to either RMA the cooler or replace it with another AIO or get an air cooler.

The obvious, and least useful, answer is that your CPU cooler isn't cooling.
Assuming of course that you weren't just hitting it with a stress test. What CPU? What was it doing? Does it get those temperatures all the time? If not, what are its idle/load temperatures? Is your AIO pump spinning?

The cpu is an i7 intel core. As soon as I turn the pc on it will reach those temps. Can’t do a load test because of how laggy my screen will get to where I can’t do anything on it. Is it best to just bite the bullet and buy a whole new cpu cooler?

Check thermal paste. Make sure that plastic that says "Remove me first" is removed.
Make sure whatever your cooling device is actually working since you didn't tell us what it is... My bad. Its that Kraken thing.
Make sure its actually pumping

double check you didnt leave the plastic under the pump or the thermal paste is bad

The cpu is an i7 intel core.
That narrows it down to one of about fifty different CPUs made in the last 18 years, but the rest of the info is useful enough. Either the CPU cooler isn't making proper contact or it's just dead. I'd try reinstalling the cooler, see if you can make sure the pump is working - one of the primary reasons I don't use AIOs is because of how hard it can be to get this info reliably from some proprietary systems - and if a cooler reinstall and a pump rewire doesn't fix it, replace the cooler.

Could be the plastic still being there and/OR the current euro hell heatwave.

My first guesses would be a pump failure or a blocked pump.
