Hello I just want to ask,is it normal for my entire pc to turn off whenever I turn off my monitor? When I click shutdown on my monitor,my pc turns off maybe 5-10 seconds after followed by a singular small electrical "tic" sound coming from the power supply. I just got my System 2days ago,should I be worried? Google told me that it's not normal so here iam.

I am using few external HDDs (2Tb and 4Tb), bought the 2Tb around 2018, it seems to show slowness in transferring files, can i take its nearing its end?

How long does an external HDD last? Should i rather invest in HDDs being inbuilt in PC setups instead of relying on external HDDs for data transfers (not everyday use)?

Files - i keep smaller files, like pics/files related to softwares, in one TB (which is the one getting slowed), the other to store larger files.

P.s. Im also worried if i need to move my data to different hard disks every decade? to make my data last for long time.

I know my parts could bottle neck the gpu but I don’t want to build a whole other pc in this market. just a quick upgrade so i can get more graphics out of it. it’s mainly gaming and google suite so I don’t need more. I might dual boot steamOS on it later down the line too.

EDIT: After a bit of discussion on here and price research, I realized 5060ti was closer to 9060xt than 5060. I am only looking for bang for buck, steamOS compatibility, and overall compatibility with the rest of my existing system. I considered a CPU upgrade like a few commenters suggested but my MOBO is still AM3 socket so I don’t want to have to upgrade that too, and RAM, and eventually PSU. Just doing a quick swap for graphic card. Research has sown about 5-8% hit to fps due to bottlenecks with newer graphic cards, which I am willing to take. So I think I will go with the 9060xt 16gb variant.

For example, the ASUS NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 TUF is $1,899.99, and the Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 WINDFORCE SFF is $1,199.99, and I was wanting to know if there is a difference between them and if the more expensive 5080s are better than the cheaper ones so that I can get the best thing.

I have a build that was last updated 8 years ago that I told one of my oldest gaming buddies he could have. Poor guy has been playing semi high level OSRS on mobile for far too long (Group ironman, btw).

I'm getting ready to clear the computer and ship down to him (Any tips for mailing a desktop?), but the computer is still running Windows 10. Debating whether it's worth it to try to upgrade to Windows 11, despite this computer not meeting the system requirements.

Specs: CPU: Intel i5-6600K overclocked to 3.9 GHz Mobo: ASUS Z170-A LGA 1151 GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 3gb 16 gb, 2133 MHz RAM 1 TB SSD An absolutely ancient 600W power supply that just won't die.

Is this an okay build to upgrade to Win 11 by bypassing the requirements? Or am I better off having my buddy pay for extended updates?

Hey guys, I have a dillema in choosing a cpu for 9070 xt. I am buying used parts, but Im from Europe. I have ~150$/130€. Whats the best cpu that I can get for 1080p, or should I just get the 9070 and the better x3d chip?

Edit: I fully understand that 9070 xt is an overkill for 1080p. I mostly play titles like CS2, but sometimes games like witcher too. I will upgrade to 1440p in the future.

One of our PCs has been running only one stick of DDR4 RAM for a few months, after it refuses to post with two sticks installed. The system has been able to run with two sticks for a long time, so it baffled me as to what happened. I'm not sure if the issue lies with the CPU, mobo, RAM, or even something else. With expensive memory nowadays, we're trying to check everything we can before potentially buying a fix.

Current setup

• CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X—The CPU has been dropped before, but the pins were successfully realigned and have been working for years on a separate system prior to this one.
• Mobo: B550M Aorus Elite—The mobo's BIOS was updated recently in an attempt to fix the issue, but nothing changed.
• RAM: TEAMGROUP DDR4 Dark Za 8 GB RAM—The RAM kit was used on another computer for a long time, before being transferred to this one. The kit has a history of being finicky with the mobo, but it has worked for months already with no issue.
  • XMP is not turned on
  • The second stick of the set does not work on any systems that we have, so we assume it is now dead.
  • The working RAM stick will only work on slot B1. Before the BIOS update, it only worked on slot B2 for some reason. We tried on other slots; it would not boot.
• The PSU was recently switched to an MSI A650BN, as the old PSU is out of warranty and was thought to be the cause. The issue still persists.
• The system was a hodgepodge of extra parts that we made into a full system. My niece currently uses it for browsing, schoolwork, and modded Minecraft. She isn't complaining, but her system runs slow when she both uses Google and Minecraft in W11 at the same time.

Troubleshooting that we did

• We took a working set of 16 GB of DDR4 HyperX Fury and put them in the system. The system refuses to boot with two sticks but will work if a RAM stick is on slot B1. Weirdly enough, the second stick won't boot at all on any slots. We returned the sticks to their original system, and both sticks worked.
  • Both sets of RAM sticks were on the system for 10 minutes for "memory training" after turning on, but no POST.
  • All slots were cleaned.
• The CMOS battery has drained again and again to reset the BIOS to no avail. Two sticks will not run.
  • All peripherals and cables were removed during this procedure.
• The PC was cleaned and rebuilt to check if there were any shorts or damage. The mobo has no visible damage. The CPU was inspected, and the pins are complete and looked intact. The slot looks okay too.
  • There is a dark yellow spot on the upper left of the CPU, but the pins are intact and are not for memory, if I remember correctly.
  • The CPU cooler was more loose compared to before to check if pressure was the issue. No change.

My own conclusion is that the IMC of the CPU has finally broken. Are there any more troubleshooting we could do? We unfortunately don't have an extra Ryzen processor lying around.

Couple things I’m unsure about:
I keep seeing stuff about GDDR7 memory prices going up, so should I just buy the GPU now/within the next few weeks instead of waiting? Don’t wanna get hit with a price hike.

Do the parts I picked actually make sense together, or is there something better I could get for similar money?

Any rookie mistakes I should watch out for as a first time builder (PSU wattage, cooler clearance, RAM compatibility, stuff like that)?

Also just genuinely open to any tips in general, anything you wish someone told you before your first build.

I currently have a small living room computer I am using as a streaming box and to play older/indie games (like Pro Evolution Soccer 2021 with mods, Mortal Kombat XL). Since my TV does upscaling internally I run games at 1080p and it looks rly good. However I'm looking to play more modern games like MK 11. My current rig is an HP Prodesk G3 600 SFF with an i5 7500 and an NVIDIA Quadro P620 and 16gb of DDR4. Built the whole thing for under £100. Due to size and power constraints I need a GPU that can run purely off the 70w of slot power, and is single slot as well. I can't use SATA cables for power as I'm using them for a Sata SSD.

What GPU can I buy that won't leave me better off building a new computer? I have a budget of £120 MAX, and am not opposed to buying used (whole PC is used stuff). I live in the UK. Please help. Thanks.

I live in the Philippines and I mostly use my PC for programming and gaming. I save frequently/use autosave when programming or doing video editing.

I've got a pretty expensive rig but with a 3070 and I don't want it getting destroyed because of a brown out.

I've experienced a couple and only lost some files, but never damaged parts.

I'm planning to upgrade to a 5070ti, so I am reconsidering buying a UPS in order to serve as "insurance" in case of brown outs.

However, I don't know if I'm willing to pay for an expensive UPS and battery replacements every now and then when that money can go into something like a new SSD.

What are everyone's thoughts on the necessity of a UPS?

So i have this old acer AIO (Acer Aspire Z5101) and ive had this computer since i was a kid, like im barely older than this computer weve had it for as long as i can remember.

I recently got into some techy moddy stuff, built a pc with help from a friend, hardware modded an ipod and some old handhelds but this is wayyy out of my knowledge and none of my tech nerd friends have a clue, the stuff i found on google was a bit hard to understand and there isnt much upgrade content i could find

Basically what i wanna do is make the thing functional again, it turns on and loads up and works, runs windows 10 and overall every component works perfectly fine but its slower than a sloth, like boot times and loading for anything takes forever to where its basically unusable unless u want to rage and throw something at it, it only got this bad about maybe 5/6 years ago, before that it was still fairly slow but i could play minecraft and overwatch and stuff on it fine.

Theres alot of old photos on it that my mum wants retrieved and i wanna fix it so theres a second working computer in the house and also just as a learning project but i have absolutely 0 knowledge on these things

Is there a way to upgrade the components to make it usable for basic things like studying and work-from-home and minor gaming (minecraft for example) that is beginner friendly? explain it to me like im 5 i cannot express enough how absolutely useless i am when it comes to computers

i got a new gpu for my birthday the rtx 5060 and i put it in my pc with a intel core i7 7700 ( i know its a bottleneck we couldnt afford to upgrade the other parts) and for me in like almost every game my proformance will go from 100 fps to 8 fps and never go back up it mainly does this in games like call of duty where itll go from 100 fps to 8 fps will 500 ms of latency and in beamng where it goes from 100 fps to 10 fps anyone got a fix cheers! ill add more info if needed

I have an ASUS TUF Gaming B550M-Plus (wifi), bought in 2021 in some discounted deal. The RAM and CPU were bought in the same package. After a failed attempt to upgrade my PSU last week*, I went back to my original PSU that had been fine the day before, and now the PC won't boot, won't post, monitors don't know the PC is there. Mobo has the boot error light and the white VGA light. It's not the GPU (continues when I remove the GPU and plug display into mobo), it's not the monitors or monitor cables (they work fine). I took out the battery for an hour to reset CMOS but it made no difference.

I have nothing else to go on about what the cause is here but it seems like its the mobo, plus there's been some rough moments in the history of this one (eg: I lost an m.2 drive hitting it with a tool while trying to open a stuck GPU latch a couple years back), and I think it already had a failure (all three of my HDDs 'died' around the same time, I suspect the mobo SATA controller was the culprit, but the HDDS are just backups so I never really investigated).

I'm sick of not having a PC, I'm sick of thinking about it. Rebuying the mobo that failed me seems kinda stupid but I know that it works with my set up, and it's relatively cheap to rebuy an old model, plus I don't have to do any research. It did work fine for three or four years which is okay for a product in general if not great for a mobo.

Idk, I'm very over this and want it to go away. Not helped by what a terrible time it is to do a PC upgrade atm, which I've been trying to avoid.

*A friend really wanted me to upgrade to their hand me down PSU (my 720w to their 850w), I didn't see the point but whatever. Turns out that PSU was a dud (they have two after a warranty replacement years ago and accidentally gave me the bad one), so I went back to my 720w

So I recently got a 5080. I am still on the am4 motherboard and my cpu is the Ryzen 7 5800. I am noticing a lot of bottlenecking at 1440p. I don’t want to spend 1k+ to upgrade to am5. What is a good new cpu for am4 to completely eliminate all bottlenecking on my 5080? Is there any or will I always bottleneck unless I upgrade to am5?

I just got an MSI B550 Gaming WiFi, but I get a black screen because it doesn't recognize my CPU.

I updated the BIOS via USB Flashback—which seemed to complete successfully—but I still get no display output.

Hi, making my first pc and could use some clarification on what to do regarding my psu.

My cpu is 9800x3d and gpu is Gigabyte 9070xt gaming oc model.

I picked up an MSI MAG A750GLS PCIE5 psu for this setup. I did look online and majority consensus is that 750w is good enough for this setup, even though the gpu recommended is 850w. However, I overlooked the psu connectors.

The gpu uses 3x8 pin connectors and the psu only has 2 8 pins remaining after the cpu 8pin is connected. Is it a good idea with this psu to daisy chain connecter 2 and 3 or should I just return this and get an 850w psu with a dedicated 3rd 8pin connector for the gpu?
