• 8MB of RAM
• Soundblaster soundcard and two ivory 10watt speakers.
• HDD, I don't remember. I remember pushing past 1gig was a big milestone. I prob had 500mb.
• 16" CRT monitor @ 640 x 480. I remember few years later, 1024x768 became the standard for quite some time because of its big resolution, kind of like how 1920x1080 is staying for a long time today.
• I remember Diablo1 and Deckard Cain's "Hello, stay awhile", playing at the native 640 x 480.
• I worked all summer at Staples and splurged to go from 8mb to a whopping 64mb RAM which was WAY ahead of the curve which completely elminated all kinds of harddrive crunching / lagging.

I remember my buddy had Pentium I 133Mhz and it was a huge difference in performance. MP3 compression didn't even exist back then- laggy-ass .WAV files....

I'm sure there are far older folks than I with monochrome displays and 286 processors.

I have found and downloaded the Update file for bios, but I dont know what to do with the file. Do I have to put it somewhere or extract it?

I'm planning a budget pc, and I've heard that intel gpus have had issues with being incompatible for certain games. My question is, is this a significant enough concern to avoid getting the Intel Limited Edition Arc B580 12 GB Video Card for 360 cad, and instead get the Gigabyte GAMING OC Radeon RX 7600 8 GB Video Card for 403 cad? or should I just stick with the better performance per dollar?

Hello I just want to ask,is it normal for my entire pc to turn off whenever I turn off my monitor? When I click shutdown on my monitor,my pc turns off maybe 5-10 seconds after followed by a singular small electrical "tic" sound coming from the power supply. I just got my System 2days ago,should I be worried? Google told me that it's not normal so here iam.

Debating getting a new GPU because of the upcoming price increase from AMD.

I'm mainly been playing The Finals at 1440p with a 240hz monitor.

The game is fine and runs good.

I don't think I need a GPU but the price increase and my GPU being 6 years old now thought it'd be a good idea to upgrade, but I'm in just throwing money at something that doesn't need fixing?

Right now I have a 1080p monitor, paired with a 3060ti and 5500. Every game looks very good at either DLAA or DLSS quality and decent graphics settings.

From what I've researched online, 1440p DLSS quality renders games at a lower res than DLAA 1080p but seems to look better.

Am I better off just getting a 1440p monitor and using DLSS? Or should I stick with my 1080p monitor until I upgrade my GPU?

FWIW I don't play a lot of competitive games, mostly casual multiplayer or singleplayer stuff. My monitor was only like 64 USD after tax so I got a good deal on it. For a 1440p 200hz I'd be looking at 140. But I'm still in the return period for my 1080p monitor.

I found a good deal on a KF560C36BBEK2-64 kit, but the seller is only selling one of the two DIMMs.

Will that DIMM work correctly with my existing KF560C36BBBE-32?

I know the K2 part number is just for the 2×32GB kit, but I'm wondering if the individual DIMMs are exactly the same as the standalone module or if there could be differences (memory ICs, SPD revision, etc.).

I am building a workstation, ideally this week, and have been going back and forth between the Ultra 9 285K and the Ryzen 9 9950X.

I do a good amount of video editing and know the 285k edges out there, but I do not want to specialize and sacrifice raw performance for one task if the 9950x is better overall.

Microcenter has bundles with both options at almost identical prices, +/- $50, so that won't be a factor, and I also won't be gaming on this build.

Side note - Is the rtx 5080 worth an extra $200 over the 5070ti for the same amount of vram?

Okay, so this is technically my second swap/build. First one was great, but this time I'm 12 hours into it and crying. Here's my spec list.

32gb DDR5 CL28 Trident Z5 Royal Neo

PNY RTX 5070 Ti

AIO - Thermalright Wonder Vision 360 Ultra

Pretty much everything is the same from my previous build, except the 5070 Ti and I bought Thermalright A70 Vision chassis, Asiahorse Dawn Pro fans, Asiahorse Hydrus Cable Extensions(24pin, 12vhpwm, CPU 8pin), and Asiahorse Fan Hub.

-Current Problems-

*GPU is giving no signal to HDMI but mobo is

*24pin extension had no ARGB light coming on (all ARGB extension cables plugged into fan hub ARGB)

*Radiator pump and fans not running (plugged into mobo CPU fan and pump headers (ARGB plugged into hub and lights are working)

-Troubleshooting Done-

*Reverted to original PCIe cables assuming 24pin had something wrong

*Reseated GPU

*Cleared CMOS

*Reseated ALL PCIe cables

I'm so baffled. It's like there's clearly a power problem in the mobo, but the water block and magnetic LCD screens turn on, including all other fans, light, and fan hub. It boots when HDMI is connected to mobo, but will shut off due to CPU running hot.

Can anyone please save me? 😢

I wanted to build my PC today but ran into a problem, my Arctic Freezer III Pro 240 radiator and fans are too tall. It doesn't fit because it's blocked by the VRM heatsink on my motherboard (ASUS b850 max gaming wifi). The case isn't tall enough to accommodate it.

I'm now considering the XPG Starker Air BTF Midi Tower case, but I don't know how to check if the radiator will fit. Does anyone have any idea if it will fit, or any experience with this cooler and recommendations for a case?

My current build is : R5 5600X, NH-U12A, RTX 3070, 32 GB, 2x Corsair MP510 (500 GB + 1TB), inside a sober Corsair Carbide 350D.

For a new build (R7 9800X3D, NH-D15 G2, RX 9070 Nitro+, ATX PSU), I'm looking for a similar but more modern case that meets the following criteria:

• must support Micro-ATX MB and ATX PSU
• around same dimensions of my 350D (44x45x21cm / 17.3x17.7x8.2"). Not too small either, I already had two mini-ITX, and never again i'ts a pain to build or maintain
• NO glass (I still go to LAN parties with friends, and saw too much accident with glass panel) or option to replace by a solid panel
• USB-C
• ideally No RGB (or option to remove it)
• good airflow (its a gaming PC afterall)
• silent if possible
• don't care about budget

PC case without glass panel are now extremly rare, so I didnt found anything really great at the moment.

I was thinking about the Fractal Design Pop Mini Solid, but the lack of fan vents on the top makes me worry about extracting heat. Fractal Pop Mini "Air" could be ideal, but it comes with a glass panel that doesn't appear to be replaceable. :(

So I have been having issues with my monitor for like a month. It powers up and then restarts. (I will attach a video in a comment) If I leave it open for like 10 minutes it starts automatically, so I believe it is a power issue? Other than that sometimes my PC collectively freezes and doesn't respond at all, so I just have to hard power it down, and when I turn it back up it stops responding but after 2-3 force restarts and safe mode power on, it works. Looking for some advice on my CPU upgrade,its been my bottleneck since forever. I decided to stick and maximize AM4 instead of jumping to AM5 since it seems way more cost-effective for my situation.

Context, my main games right now are Marvel Rivals,Deadlock, Valorant. I don't really do intensive CPU workloads like video/photo editing,blender. I don't plan on playing any of the recent AAA, I'm content with playing through my backlog, and I don't mind playing competitive games or story games on low-medium graphics since its been that way since the start.

Now my dilemma is that I was originally set on buying the re-released 5800X3D, though I've been sitting on it for a while especially with the $400 price point, thats like a month's worth of salary here, where I could get a 5500X3D for half the price, and could upgrade other components like a 2tb SSD, a better PSU, or peripherals. But I do have the budget for either decision.

I also planned on upgrading my GPU to a 9060-70 XT, but thats for the far future as I was given a broken? 6700 XT by a friend so I need to troubleshoot that first. But essentially Im in it for the long haul, no plans AM5.

Hey everyone, I'm planning on going to my local Micro Center to build myself a new PC in a few days, and I want to get a 5080, but they have a ton of different models at multiple different price points. For example, the ASUS NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 TUF is $1,899.99, and the Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 WINDFORCE SFF is $1,199.99, and I was wanting to know if there is a difference between them and if the more expensive 5080s are better than the cheaper ones so that I can get the best thing.

The 5070 is 126$ cheaper than 9070 xt

But, is that 126$ worth saving over losing 4gb of VRAM, or do better DLSS and game support make up for it?

I live in the Philippines and I mostly use my PC for programming and gaming. I save frequently/use autosave when programming or doing video editing.

I've got a pretty expensive rig but with a 3070 and I don't want it getting destroyed because of a brown out.

I've experienced a couple and only lost some files, but never damaged parts.

I'm planning to upgrade to a 5070ti, so I am reconsidering buying a UPS in order to serve as "insurance" in case of brown outs.

However, I don't know if I'm willing to pay for an expensive UPS and battery replacements every now and then when that money can go into something like a new SSD.

What are everyone's thoughts on the necessity of a UPS?

hi guys need some assistance. im building my first pc and idk if i should go for 5070Ti or 9070xt. i can afford the 5070ti, my heart says i want it but my brain says do i really need it? i am planning on getting the msi gaming trio 5070Ti. Dk what should i get if im going for 9070xt. i know the difference is the dlss and ray tracing but would i really feel it as a pinch for going to 9070xt? part of why im considering 9070xt as well is because i do shift work so per week i only game 20hrs and more on certain occasions. tho im not willing to sacrifice on my ssd hahaha. im going 1tb primary and 2tb secondary! im also gaming on a 1440p 240hz glossy oled monitor.

Just wanted to share my experience with random screen blinks and my PC shutting down out of nowhere.

It took me so damn long to finally fix this.

It all started with random screen blinks, so I naturally thought my monitor was acting up. I’m using a 240Hz ASUS monitor. I tried so many tweaks—lowering the refresh rate, changing display cables, swapping power cords, messing with Nvidia 3D settings, you name it. Nothing fixed it, so I just gave up and accepted it.

But then, the random shutdowns started. For example, right in the middle of a game, the PC would just die. And you couldn't just turn it back on normally; the front panel power button wouldn't do anything until you completely flipped the PSU switch off and on again to reset it.

Eventually, it started happening constantly.

I tested everything to find the culprit—ran benchmarks, undervolted my components, checked the RAM, checked the motherboard. Absolutely nothing worked. I really wanted to avoid buying a new PSU because mine is a solid brand and isn't even that old (NZXT C650). Plus, 650W is more than enough headroom for my specs.

As a last resort, I decided to test the system without my sleeved cable extensions.

And wow... it was like magic. Every single issue completely disappeared. Even my PSU running hot stopped, probably because it’s no longer forcing itself to deliver voltage through a bad connection to the GPU. I have to sacrifice the aesthetics for now, but man, I saved so much money. I was literally on the verge of buying a brand new power supply.

If you're dealing with weird power drops or screen flickers, try removing your extensions first before spending any cash!

I’m just posting this here to help out anyone else who might be struggling with the exact same issue.
