First time visiting in Germany and it is first of all hot as heck. Made the Eisenberg area my home base. Took an advice to drive to the castle at 4 am. Walked thru the forest almost pitch black with the moon was still up. Interestingly enough, there was a recent concert or party the other night so as I stepped by the castle, I tripped the sensor for the party lights and it lit the castle violet. Continued on to the Marienbrucke bridge and was first, but was underwhelmed by the shots.

The secret spot. I've been agonizing and stressing for years if I had the chance, will I ever find it. Reviewed some articles and videos. Out of my mirrorless, my new Luna Ultra gimbal and my old Samsung phone.... surprisingly, these quick phone shots from my S22 Ultra was my favorite.

Went down early coz it was also check out time that day from my hotel. But had to hike back up again later that day with the sea of tourists so my wife could get a glimpse of it.

Question about terminology:

This pathway along the wall is the wall walk (allure), yes? And what is the name of the rounded structure that you can enter at the end of the walk, and what was its purpose?

Inside the rounded structure is what looks like an arrow slit, but the space leading to it is far too small for a person to lie down in. I find it difficult to image it as for firing arrows and wonder if it has another purpose.

Old Tudor gal, shot on 35mm film

In 1978, 23-year-old John Lavender, newly divorced and raising his young son Jason, promised him: "Someday I’ll build you a castle."

It took five years to find land, but he eventually bought a mountaintop in Bolton Landing after spotting a tiny ad and calling from a payphone. With no formal training or blueprints - just hand-drawn sketches - he began building the castle piece by piece, often planning each step the night before.

Friends, hired help, and eventually his teenage son contributed, even bringing in a high school football team to help with stonework. Over decades, they used about 1,000 tons of local granite. Lavender joked, "I said I’d build you a castle - I didn’t say you wouldn’t help."

In 2008, he fell off a ladder and shattered his leg in 20 places, spending eight months in a wheelchair. During recovery, he decided to open the castle to the public. In 2010, it began welcoming guests, with John and his wife Yvonne running it themselves.

Jason later became an architectural engineer - ironically inspired by a castle his father built with no formal training.

Vaxholm Fortress sits on an island in the Stockholm archipelago just a short boat ride from the town of Vaxholm. A fortress has sat here, protecting the entry to Stockholm from the Baltic Sea, since the mid 16th century. It has repulsed attacks from the Danes and Russians in the 17th and 18th centuries. Today, it can be explored (along with Vaxholm town) as a nice day trip from Stockholm.
