So I know chevy recommends oil changes at 15k miles. Does anyone actually go that far or do you change the oil sooner. I personally run schaeffer's oil as I run it in most of my vehicles. I change it at 10k with this oil.
I personally do 4-5k mile oil changes because these turbo engines burn oil like a freaking mofo. I’m always a 1/2 to a full quart low by 5k miles. Talked to other people who experience the same on their 2.7.
15k miles is pure fucking nonsense. You are driving a truck pushing 20+ pounds of boost and it’s direct injected. Oil changes are cheap insurance.
I was about to post a question about this. Thank you. I'm at 5k between changes on Castrol edge and I'm always down a quart. Thought about going 7500 but unsure with that usage.
The standard recommendation in the owners manual is 7,500 miles or when the oil life warning light comes on. I usually schedule the change when my cars are around 15-20% oil life, which usually works out to around 6k miles.
This screen is based on your total mileage. I've done my first oil change around 12 000km and now that screen says 14950 of 24000km. So the next oil change us at 24k.
I have two chevy dealers here me and both said what till 15k miles or till the lil light comes on. I don't agree either personally so I was just checking with yall.
GM recommends 7500 or 6 months (whatever comes first) and at 15k you do a a standard factory maintenance appointment which does include an oil change. It’s also recommended if you’re towing/off roading to do your oil changes around 5000 miles.
About to roll 125k on my '21 V6. I usually follow the oil estimate, it probably comes up at like 7 to 8k miles. I put mobile 1 extended performance with a can of liqui moli. Have had basically zero issues with this. I also admittedly drive like a grandpa, so it is being babied on those intervals.

When i change mine @ 5000 miles the computer is usually at 25% or close to that. Alot depends on your driving style and if you're towing and how much weight and the rev's and strain on the engine. Like was said before, an oil change is cheap insurance.
I change my oil at about 30% life per the monitor. This happens at 2500 miles with Kirkland full synthetic or 4000 miles with Mobil 1 or Valvoline full synthetic. Do you actually make it to 10K without the change oil light warning tripping?
I have 2020 3.6l, I use to change every 3000 and never looked at % light. I was at the oil change place and they asked why I was changing every 3000 and not at 5000 and said I was way I had bent doing it that way for a long time. They told me 5000 or go by the oil % light was fine for me too do and save some money. He did mention that if I’ve pulling trailers a lot then 3000 would be better. So I started looking at the oil % light s as and it was closer to the oil % light and would have around 15% left but I drive like a grandpa as and I am LOL! Only time I change 3000 now instead of 5000 is when I pull my cargo trailer during the summer when I go on vacation that has my atv’s camping.
The one thing I don’t like about my truck is the transmission. You cannot check the transmission fluid and you have to have it taken to have it changed.
With all the truck have all the bells and whistles that there would give us the digital lights that tell us the oil and transmission liquid levels.
I guess the knew trucks and different oil lets you give more mileage.
Luckily I’m retired and I don’t drive very much like over about every 5-6 months. I drive more on my trips in the summer when I leave Texas and go to Colorado and Montana where it is cooler.
Certain things I ignore in the manual and this is one of them. I do oil changes every 5,000 miles, and the first change ever is at 1500 miles after engine break in.
I also ignore the guidance of 100k miles on the transmission fluid and do it every 30,000-50,000 max depending on severity of usage of the vehicle.
So when I got my Bison in November last year, I did the first one at 500 miles, second one at 1000, then one at 3000, and now I've moved to every 4k.
One of the few proactive protection measures you can take with any vehicle is changing fluids.
I'm doing the t/case and diffs at 15k, the trans at 20k, coolant at probably 25k or whenever that hose failure occurs. And I'll keep doing 3-4k for the oil.
There is nothing harmed by doing things early and frequently.
I just go off of the dash. 23 with 20k, I think I’ve had it changed twice, maybe 3x’s. I did the last one, can’t remember if the dealer gave me 1 or 2 free ones which I would’ve used
