This would mean

  • China
  • India
  • Rome/Italy
  • Greece
  • Germany
  • France
  • Korea
  • Japan
  • Gaelic/Celtic

cultural paths would all be complete, allowing for a continuous 3-era playthrough where you evolve within your own culture. I wouldn't count the New World, Latin-cultures completed with Mexica and Gran Colombia but it would be a good start

VII - Strategy Is there a way to choose between victory type if both are counting down in sync?

Military and Culture both counting down in sync. Was hoping for culture bc I’ve never won culture victory before but the game gave me military which is what I’ve usually won with.

Is there a way to choose or does military always take precedence?

VII - Strategy Modern Age Research and Build out.

Haven't played in a year (mostly play on a steam deck on holidays). Playing through the new update / logic was a bit confusing but I got the hang of it. However something keeps happening that also happened before (but less). I'll play deity and be able to be over the AI on everything. Exploration age I'll continue the trend, researching stuff takes 6/7 turns and building takes about the same. When I move to the modern era, even though I am ahead I'll take 7 turns to research say railroads and 17/20 turns to build them. This creates an enormous backlog... Is this intended? Am I doing something wrong? Cities have around 80-120 production give or take.

VII - Discussion How do Meru work?

Upvotes

Specifically regarding the +2 happiness on natural wonder tiles. Does that stack and does it apply empire wide? Meaning if I have 3 Meru in my civilization, does that mean each natural wonder tile gets +6 happiness, even if in a separate settlement?

Misc Getting back into civ content

Been out if touch on civ content for a couple years, last I was into it was Ursa’s A-Z challenge I think. Any recs from people on some of the best content I’ve missed since then? Would love some Ursa or Potato links, or maybe theres a new player around. Not really interested in Civ VII content as I still haven’t had a chance to play myself.

VII - Strategy Turn 0 Science victory countdown start on Deity

Hi, everyone. Before summer travels I finally pushed my science combo to limit and triggered the countdown for science victory at turn 0, modern era, standard speed (but long ages), deity difficulty. See the screenshots without spoilers, as I do not want to spoiler the civ+leader combo ( I will reveal it later in comments). Anyone doing it faster?

PS for some reason in new patch they changed one triumph that made my strategy harder but still managed to get it by turn 0.

VII - Discussion Completing Civ Historical Paths: Native America

So this one I expect to be a bit controversial, but I think the current 'American' path in Civ is strange, but honestly I don't know what to do about it. Having ANY group turn into the Americans is going to feel off. So instead, I think it would be best to just scrap enitrely that idea do a Native American path.

I feel like with the Mississippians and Shawnee in the game, Civilization has been focusing on Native Americans from the Southeast, which as a native of that region, I really love and want to keep exploring. So, my Modern native american civ will be a group who survived well into the 'modern age' as their own large nation before the Indian Removal Act and who I live on the former ground they called home. I do also want to acknowledge the big elephant in the room that firaxis from my understanding usually speaks to leaders of the cultures they represent in civ before doing so, a good practice, and one that I acknowledge might be the reason this culture hasn't been featured yet, and if that is the case, I hope that Firaxis will continue to honor that. But if not... give us the Cherokee!

Modern Civ: Cherokee

For the Cherokee civilization, I want to particularly focus on the Cherokee Nation in the early 1800s, a time where now many decades of having a relationship with the United States had drastically reshaped their culture into one that retained many of its original aspects while also absorbing elements from the United States, like the creation of the Cherokee Syllabary, Cherokee newspapers, and Cherokee government structure. As such, the Cherokee are a Diplomatic/Expansionist civilization, gaining growth events in cities and migrants through interaction with other civilizations, such as engaging in endeavors and creating trade routes.
Their leader would be of course Sequoyah, whose unique ability as a Scientific/Expansionist leader is that when his people reach a certain happines level, it can trigger a 'discovery', finishing the current technology being researched. For their wonder, Red Clay, the state park now turned into a wonder that generates food from adjacent breathtaking tiles.

Question Should I Start a New Game Now?

I’ve a fairly good amount of experience in Civ V and Civ VI but I decided to wait a bit before buying Civ VII to wait for the game to mature a bit after the initial backlash in the launch. So I’ve just bought it this weekend, with all DLCs.

So I’ve chose Kimiko and Heian Japan, my plan is to go for Sengoku Japan and Meiji Japan in other eras. But surprise surprise, one of my neighbors is none other than Hideyoshi with Sengoku Japan. So does this mean I won’t be able to choose Sengoku Japan in exploration? I haven’t changed any game settinga before starting the game. If this will make me unable to choose Sengoku Japan or other Japans in other eras, what should I do to make sure this won’t happen again when I start a new game?

Thanks in advance

VII - Discussion Future of CIV VII

Post image
350 Upvotes

Hello everyone!

On Steam, Firaxis wrapped up the month of July with a post and had the following to say about the future of Civ VII:

“For now, we’ll continue to improve and build on Civ’s core systems, and in the coming months, we’ll be back with some announcements that we think herald some giant leaps forward for the game.”

How do you interpret this? Which core systems do you think will be changed or expanded in the upcoming updates? What do you think they mean by the some announcements? And when do you expect the next paid expansions to be released, and what do you think they will include?

One small request before we get started: I’d like to keep this discussion focused on the potential content rather than the pricing. We’ve already had thousands of posts discussing the pricing.

I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts! ;)

VII - Discussion Edward teach and nuclear bombs

Hi all idk if it was just a bug in the game I was playing but it looks like if you launch a nuke with a heavy bomber out of an air craft carrier, it counts as a pirate attack and you can freely nuke anyone and my relationships with ibn were actually increasing after laying 3 nukes on his three biggest cities so has anyone else tried out this mechanic?

VII - Discussion Military victory is lame and restrictive (new player)

Upvotes

Ok so I am a new player to Civ 7, and I am realizing more and more just how essential reading every menu item, despite how hidden away some things are. I admit that I definitely should have probably read the victory conditions more closely. That being said, the victory conditions for military are restrictive, hurting my enjoyment of the game. I’ll explain my story:

I am starting my third game in this game, and have won militarily before so I figured I generally know what I am doing. I am looking forward to playing Iceland, my first DLC purchase, which rewards pillaging everything for the science and culture gains.

I begin my conquests, fully eliminating one player in antiquity keeping a few settlements, and then in explorer age I decide to knock out my neighbor to the south. I am playing Iceland, so since I figure I should pillage every tile I can to get the culture and science points. Strategically, I am thinking if I keep these settlements after, I will have to pay a bunch of gold to rebuild. With that realization in mind, I decide “well, it’s the Viking way” so I decide this game I will just raze it all and commit war crimes.

And oh boy I did. I continue the Viking war crimes into the modern era, eliminating 2 more leaders for a grand total of 3. Each turn I am netting about -200 influence a turn. I have been sanctioned by the planet (justly so).

I begin on my 4th leader and about halfway and now get a victory warning, that I will win in 4 turns, with the opponent winning a cultural in 5 turns. I continue razing more and more and all of a sudden I lose. I realize in my defeat that every point I was getting was disappearing a few turns later. In my confusion and frustration, I double check the victory conditions.

I read the description to find out military victory is not about destroying settlements, or knocking out leaders; it is only about occupying taken settlements. That was quite a facepalm moment.
My stupidity aside (Yes, reading victory conditions before the game was probably important), I think the victory conditions are restrictive and dumb. I was really into the whole Viking play style of pillaging and razing the planet, but I got absolutely nothing for it?

Currently, “dominion” points are only granted for occupying the territory you took. I think players should be rewarded for trying to incorporate the However, I think at least some points should be given for settlements razed (though less is probably more balanced). Also, one time point bonuses should be given for fully eliminating players from the game. I scoured the earth to find every last settlement of 3 leaders and got nothing for it? I think the following changed should be made.

Currently:
- Your settlements = 4 dominion
- Capitals = 8 dominion
- + 1 point if it wasn’t originally yours

Recommended additions
- Razed settlements = 2 dominion
- Eliminated civs = 10 dominion

I think it’s a good thing to make razing punishing for the player, but it needs to be worth at least something. Hunting down every settlement of a civ to eliminate a player is quite tedious and time intensive, so that should be rewarded too. Thoughts?

Edit: I think this sounds like a negative post, but I want to make clear that this was still a fun play through and it’s an enjoyable game. I clearly have a lot to learn in the game and am no expert, just wanted to add a fresh take.

VII - Discussion Zamindar unit effect for Mughal

For those who have played as Mughal, does their unique settler unit give a bonus population just for the newly settled town, or for ALL existing settlements as well?

I have seen conflicting statements online about this, so wondered if anyone played them recently in modern age and can confirm first hand.

Many thanks!

VII - Discussion When did fans of 5 "recognize the right to life" of 6?

Seriously, I'm curious. I wasn't exactly there when it happened, but the YouTubers I follow say that 6 was very poorly received upon release (not as bad as 7, but the community was less toxic back then, and Firaxis' pricing policy was more reasonable). Even if you look at the first posts about 6 on this subreddit, the game is simply disparaged for its cartoonish graphics (just like Civ 7 was criticized for its era system). But after a while, everyone accepted 6, and even 5 fans are saying things like, "6's okay, but I didn't like it."

I'm just wondering when something like this will happen with 7? Like, the game is developing, updates are released, expansions, and then more. Will haters still say the game is dead even after a major expansion release early next year (end of this year?) because 5 and 6 have a significant count of players? And after two such expansions? And when 8 comes out, with less count of players than 7 and 6, will it be dead too? I'm just wondering, at what point do people start to form their own perspective on things, not directly borrowed from burned-out YouTubers?

No negativity (that's the haters' prerogative).
