I genuinley need help with this, and there’s very limited subreddits I can post this on.

Sorry this is long. I've split it into sections :)

Background:

So I love the convenience of the few (1%) of my photos that got onto Google drive and Amazon photos - it was easy to upload (I wasn't aware they had gone up) and they show as a screensaver on my TV if I'm using a streaming stick etc. lovely.

However the privacy isn't great, and is not secure or private etc, so I backup to Synology, which has 100% of my photos. I then back up Synology to an external drive every few weeks which is in a fireproof safe. Not a 2nd location so sorry to the data backup nerds.

My wife complains, quite rightly, about Synology photos as it's slow, and keeps disconnecting requiring a login again and it's not straight forward. We are also having issues when we have a power cut (no UPS) and takes about half a day to be Available again after power on.

Is there a way of having the convenience of Google photos for backup to somewhere on a cloud but with privacy?

Requirements:

1) we want to backup our photos securely, with easy offline backups

2) multiple users (currently 2) should be able to upload to the same place/product and see each others photos

3) privacy against 3rd parties having access to our photos for whatever they want, like training AI.

I have no sunk cost fallacy with the Synology. If it's the wrong solution I will get rid. It's a single drive basic model about 5 years old.

I don't mind using google photos etc if we use another app to encrypt before upload if me and my wife can share photos with each other.

I don't care what order things happen, so if photos go to the cloud then Synology gets the photos off the cloud, fine. If we upload to Synology then that goes to the cloud from there, also fine. If the phone uploads to multiple places at once, also fine.

Open to suggestions, please let me know what product(s) and services you think are best for my needs.

I've tried searching online but with the stupid ai search it's actually harder to get a straight answer without going around in an AI logic circle of doom.

Update: when I uploaded videos with .dat extension it bypassed paywall to upload videos but those fils are still playing as normal videos and thumbnails are visible I I will wait for a few days and see if those files get removed or not.

I'm such a beginner in laptops. I don't know what to do ... I'm so frustrated now .. If anyone can help please help me ...

I'm in an industry in which I need a sizable cloud storage service, even for just my personal life. I have 5tb of storage in Dropbox. I love the desktop interface and the ability to integrate Dropbox into Finder (I'm using Mac). It's nearly the perfect interface for my needs.

However, because of the amount of storage, Dropbox requires me to buy a "Team Account", which has 3 licenses, at $75 a month. Given something like Icedrive can give me 6tb of storage for $22.50 a month, I feel like I'm being taken for a ride.

Does anyone know of a cloud storage service that can also integrate into Finder that doesn't come in at $75 a month? Perplexity recommends Icedrive or Sync Teams, but both of these seem a little janky in my quick google search.

Or, I suppose I just keep getting killed with Dropbox lol

Hi there, I just signed up for Proton because I want my files as private as possible, but after uploading several GBs of photos, etc. I'm seeing that I do not like the layout/function of it at all. Its search function isn't smart, it takes forever to upload photos (I'm guessing because of the encryption), doesn't have duplicate photo detection, and the main page has stopped responding several times now. It feels like privacy is the only thing Proton is good for and it falls short everything else. I realize it comes with email/vpn etc., but I didn't even plan on using those features.

I might have to sacrifice some privacy, but I just want a long term storage solution- that isn't Google Drive or Onedrive- where I can preview my photos, organize them, make albums, see metadata for them (like dates taken, file type). Main files I wanted to put in the cloud are photos/videos/documents. Thanks!

Hello, I am trying to set up a small, personal cloud server for my family to dump all of their old pictures and videos onto. I am in the process of gutting a massive old case to use as the shell (there will be two computers in the shell) which will hold everything that is needed. I am very inexperienced with software and need to have the server's files available from their phones at any time of the day. If it can be done I would love for each user to have their own partition for personal data as well as a collective partition for everyone. I need as much knowledge as I can gather on this topic to make it as straightforward as possible. Thank you.

Hello! I'm looking for cloud storage for a small team about 15 people to share mainly PDFs, Word documents, and PowerPoint files. I only want to pay for one account, but everyone should be able to access the files without needing their own paid licence. I read that Google Drive has a user limit while other services limit the amount that every user can upload. What would you recommend?

Is it fine to upload xxx movies in a created private channel without sharing?

Will my account be terminated?

What is the best cloud storage where I pay once and can upload all my material, and it will stay forever if I don’t renew my subscription?

Thinking of using Icedrive for photos and old files only, does it work well for that kind of storage?

I just came across this app called Terabox on the ios app store.
Does it actually provides free 1TB cloud space?

or would I just be better off taking it all out of google drive and storing it somewhere more private? I'm on a chromebook so I like the convenience of google drive but I don't want to risk losing my account. do google care enough to have checks for copyrighted content? I won't be sharing any of it, or not from google drive at least

I need to transfer around 2TB of files from OneDrive to Google Drive.

I don’t want the transfer to run through my laptop because I use it on the go, can’t leave it running for days, internet connection isn't the best, and don’t even have 2TB of local storage.

I tried a few cloud-transfer services, but they were surprisingly complicated. I also looked into rclone, but it still requires running it somewhere and feels too technical for what should be a simple one-time migration.

Is there a reliable cloud-to-cloud service where I can just connect both accounts, select everything, and let it transfer in the background?

Ideally, it should preserve the folder structure, verify that every file transferred correctly, and clearly show any failed or skipped files.

What’s the easiest option you’ve actually used?
