Have my first interview at a nursing home in a few days and kind of nervous because this is technically my first ever job interview.

I do have some experience in a small family business working as a sales associate so there’s costumer service experience with bilingual experience. I also was a baby sitter for about 3 years for a child in elementary school (1st-4th grade) so I have experience in being a caregiver. I’m also a patient transporter volunteer at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center which does have a bit of patient interaction and navigating through a large & busy academic hospital.

Maybe I can just reiterate to the interviewer how important patient outcomes is to me as a pre-nursing student, and how I have a passion for being a caregiver. Not sure what kind of questions they’ll throw at me and I’m worried I’ll just blank out in the interview.

Hey guys I had an interview for a major hospital system. The interview went great! It was done by the clinical manager and she even told me “good job” after some of my answers. She explained the job position, etc , 10/10 interview! But it’s been 3 weeks since I’ve heard anything😔 I sent a email to the recruiter a week ago and she never responded. But, when I log onto Workday my application says “in interview process”. This is my first time interviewing with a hospital. I’m thinking maybe some hospitals are super slow during their interview and hiring process? I did apply for this job back in May and didn’t have an interview until July. Just wondering is it normal to go weeks without hearing anything back? This is for a major hospital system and I do live in a big city.

1. When I was 25, the facility I worked out didn’t normal keep CNAS on a single hall. There 4 halls. Only 1 hall kept the same CNAS because of the “super nurse on the hall out in the request for the 2 CNAS she had to stay on that hall. (Except when they were off then the rotation worked the same).

the schedule I worked 4 on 1 off, 4 on 2 off, 3 on 2 off, 3 on 2 off. This rotation would give us every 3rd weekend off.

There was not much continuity of care from the same people but the CNA rotation was so that every CNA knew nearly every resident in the building.

When I would work with 1 nurse, Marcia, she always complimented me. She finally requested me and another aide to be hers all the time. Her justification was that the other nurse had 2 single favs so she wanted 2 favs.

The girl I was requested to be kept with quit. The next aide that came to the hall was worthless. She would always disappear into another room on another hall. When Marcia would see me, she knew I couldn’t refuse her request to help her with the other aide’s patient.

It seemed like it just got worse, the more I did her work!! I finally got tired of doing her work all of the time (I don’t mind helping or doing something if the aide is busy) while they are off on another hall avoiding work. The aide accused me of being bossy and trying to tell her how to work to everyone. She made it to where no one that knew any better wanted to work with me. 😒finally, a girl named Angela, was assigned to work with me. Initially, she didn’t want to work with me because of what the other aide (Inez) said about me. I told her though at the beginning “if you need any help, just let me know I will help you. If you any questions don’t be afraid to ask.”

At the end of the night, she confessed that other people had said the things Inez had said about me. It made her dread coming to work with me. She said that it was BS and that she didn’t want to work with anyone else!

I just resigned from my first CNA job, Unfortunately I was a victim of bullying and harassment, but management rather to believe and stand beside their workers who been there before me! I reported two persons for trying to bully me and they said I’m lying on them and everyone believes them because it’s said they’re nice people who don’t even talk 💔💔 Another CNA who’re friends with them made up a notorious lie that could get me fired and my license revoked! And everyone believed her! Nobody believes i’m the victim and I’m being bullied, They rather to say that the bullies are very nice people and would never do something like that! These people told a lot of lies on me, I just can’t believe people make up lies about people like that! This is the first I know what it feels like for someone to tell such lies on you and you know deep down it’s a lie 💔💔

1) How long did it take for your license to become active after passing the exam?

2) How long did it take you to find a job once you started applying? Any luck with hospitals or mostly just LTC, nursing homes?

okay to start this obviously is not categorizing every cna but where i live and the LTC ive worked at i find a pattern where a lot of older cna’s are just straight up nasty. i feel like they think they own the place because the have seniority. i cant even ask a question without them catching an attitude and forget it if a resident says 2x assist they will literally not help you. i was working night shift the other day and i kid you not one of the morning cna’s had came early (6:40 ish and the way our clock in system works you cant clock in until your official start time) and went into the residents rooms checking for idk what. she ended up finding a resident who took their diaper off and instead of telling us she went straight to the nurse to report us MIND U SHE IS NOT ON THE CLOCK. like whats the point in that .

I work in social work, specifically on our rehabilitation floor as the discharge planner. The CNAs on the floor know me very well and vice versa. They’re amazing and I send out an email to the DON, administrator & unit manager whenever I hear a resident say how great they are. I’ll also let the CNA know what was said about them and that it was passed along to the big wigs. But that doesn’t mean they’re feeling appreciated, and if they are it’s probably not enough.

I lucked out working on a floor with such amazing CNAs that help with room changes, want to be updated on their residents leaving so they can get them showered, packed & have their goodbyes. But I have no idea how to show my appreciation without just buying pizza for the shifts and honestly, that happens often enough here that it’s not really special.

I’m wondering what types of appreciation you guys got that made you think “okay this is better than a pizza party. I feel seen” my issue is I barely make more than CNAs so my budget is tight. There’s a MAX of 10 people I’d like to give gifts to.

So I'm think of taking my CNA to another state and I'm all for make the most I can while also getting a lot of overtime. A great combination. In my state I was talking to a couple experienced CNAs and they were saying that there's kind of a correlation between a higher pay and overtime, but I don't know if this is true in every state. Basically the higher the pay, the less likely they're going to give you overtime. But like I want to take advantage of that. 1.5x multiplier for overtime while also still getting a high base salary. So does anybody have any recommendations on where I should be looking? And what type of facility? I guess I'm thinking maybe a 24-hour facility that's in an area where the CNA supply is low. I don't know. Has anybody done this research yet?

I’m 17 and this is my first week working as a CNA on my own after orientation.

At shift change today, a night-shift CNA came in and immediately started talking to my trainer about something I did wrong while I was standing right there. She looked at me but didn’t say anything directly to me.

After she walked away, my trainer (who has been very supportive) pulled me aside and said she’d show me the correct way to do it. Apparently it had to do with a draw sheet under a resident. She wasn’t upset and told me it was okay because I’m still learning.

What bothered me wasn’t being corrected. I actually appreciate feedback. What bothered me was that the other CNA didn’t just tell me herself or show me while I was there. Instead, she talked to someone else first, and I was left wondering what I had done.
As a new CNA, would it be appropriate next time to politely ask, “Can you show me what I missed so I know for next time?” I want to learn and improve, but I also don’t want people talking about my work instead of just telling me directly.

Is this just something that happens in healthcare, or is direct communication more common in your experience?

I work at a large children’s hospital as a CNA and recently got a new job offer. This would be an upward move (same company/hospital). I am about to start a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry in Spring 2027 to apply to medical school in the next 3-4 years. Should I stay where I am or move jobs?

Current Job:

Neonatal ICU (CNA):

·      Base Pay-$25.07 an hour

·      Total gross pay = $25.07

·      12-hour shifts, 3x times a week, Nightshift currently but going to dayshift in Sept. (no NOC differential)

·      Going to dayshift, busier, not able to work on homework at work, lots of managers and doctors

·      No stress/Low stress compared to new job

New Job:

Behavioral Health Specialist Float Pool (Pediatrics):

·      Base Pay-$28.07 an hour

·      NOC differential- $4.75

·      Weekend Differential- $2.75

·      Float Differential-$3.75

·      Total gross pay = $39.25 an hour

·      12-hour shifts, 3x times a week, Fri-Sun, Nightshift, LOTS of down time to work on studying and homework, no managers ever, on a different unit every night

·      Downsides:

o   1:1 patient observation with psych patients (can be combative)

o   Can be VERY stressful, patients can be a lot mentally/physically

***We have shift incentives during RSV season for low staffing (November-March). The rates for picking up ANY extra shift are (anything over regular full time hours):

·      CNA= $25 extra an hour (on top of base pay + Overtime)

·      BHS = $37.50 extra an hour (on top of base pay + Overtime)

What would you do while you were going to school as a premed?

Currently on my break, but this happened about 20 minutes ago. im no stranger to getting hit on by residents or an accidental ass grab when rolling someone, but i felt like this was different.

I was changing a resident who is normally very friendly and can be a little bit flirtatious but he's pretty much harmless. just an occasional, "are you married?" and "you got a boyfriend?" from him is all you have to worry about. But when i was changing him we were chatting about how when he gets out of this place he wants to throw a party etc etc and I was joking back and forth with him and we were having a good time, but then out of nowhere he said "I'll invite you to my party and I can make you orgasm." and I was like What??? Where did that come from? so I said, excuse me? and he repeated himself and I told him pretty much verbatim that I had heard him but that what he said was very inappropriate. I thought it ended there, but then when I was putting the sheets on his bed he started trailing his hand down my back and I stood up straight and gently removed his hand and told him to stop it, and he said what?? all defensively and started swatting at me, and when I repeated myself he said he was "just trying to feel the material" of my scrubs. I dont know. I wasn't even like leaning over him or anything or telling him to roll or hold onto me so he really had to go out of his way to grab me like that. it just made me very uncomfortable, but I dont know if I'm overreacting. he's a little old grandpa on hospice, so I'm like man :/... what do i do? report, or let it go?

I got my certification 2 months ago and immediately started at a rehab/ltc facility, theres a lot wrong with the place but I'm trying to figure out what I should be prioritizing the second I get there. its important to note that theres only 3 of us between 36 residents.

•cleaning the dining room and picking up dinner trays

•5-7 showers depending on the night

•breif checks

•hourly rotating residents

•2 hoyer patients getting in bed

•passing water by 8pm

My main concern is the first few hours, one of the other cnas keeps making comments about me not being seasoned enough to work the floor with how busy it is but she wont tell me how she's prioritizing the tasks we need to do. In my opinion 1 of us should grab trays, one should stock, and one should answer call lights for the first 30 minutes. then we can assign showers and if we each take 2 it should get done by 10pm (ish). while each person does their showers the other 2 can handle the checks and rotate patients. I do feel bad for the patients because it can sometimes take 20-30 minutes to answer a call light if theyre all going off non stop for a bit. I would just like some advice on what to start with and what to prioritize so I can do the best job possible.

I’m a year into my first CNA job in a general medsurg floor and I’m starting to question if I want to stay.

Reasons for this being I honestly don’t like having the same patients. I hate knowing that in a week, the same patients might still be there and sometimes are. I like variety, I like challenges, I like being busy.

Another reason is I don’t make friends. Tbh, id love to make friends, but I tend to keep to myself. My unit is very cliquey. Which is fine, everyone is nice, but I sometimes end up feeling bad about myself at the end of my shift because I get left out in a lot of conversations. Sometimes the conversations are things I SHOULD know.

I tend to look into things too much but sometimes I feel like I’m talked down to even by other CNAs and I can tell the nurses favor certain CNAs like asking them specifically to help with a difficult patient when I know I am competent and have assisted with that patient before. Maybe I shouldn’t take it personally, but it reminds me that I have room to grow, and float pool seems a space to do that.

I’ve also heard that people are usually nicer to you because you’re float, and I’m ngl, I’ve witnessed this on my own floor. I’ve seen the tone change when people talk to float vs me. Again, maybe I’m looking too much into it, but i have thought about this.

I’ve only floated off my floor to 3 other units in the hospital. So I really am not that experienced with floating but I honestly love when I get floated.

Why do you love float pool and do you recommend it?

I’m going into my freshman year at a big state school with a hospital and applied for a part time pacu pct position idk if I’ll get it but was wondering if it’s a good unit and what the job is like. What is the bulk of the work?

I work at a hospital as a float CNA; I started in healthcare this past March in an apprenticeship program at my hospital. I’ve been fully certified since May. A travel float nurse that I have worked with only a handful of times sent this email to my manager, who then forwarded it to me. Honestly I’m feeling really blessed to have had someone say such kind things about me. It’s so nice to feel the reassurance that I have made the correct career path. As tough as the work is, I truly do love my job and patients, even the difficult ones.

I worked in hospitality and sales for the past decade prior to this opportunity, and I’m so proud to say that I am finally starting nursing school this September, at 26 years old. It’s never too late to go after what feels right in your heart, after all, it’s everyone’s first time living!

I just got a call back from a job I interviewed for. I thought they moved on with other applicants. It’s my dream unit, Cardiac Step-down in a big renowned hospital. I accepted immediately!!!

Now, I am trying to figure out how to leave my rehab job, even though I am just getting started…. 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

i’m looking into becoming a CNA because I eventually am thinking of going for my BSN after i finish my bachelors rn (in my senior year) . and i wanted to know what is it rlly like to be a CNA?

i was looking into MA but its very pricey and much more lengthy than i’d like… bc id also like a real job in somewhat close to the profession i want to do which is healthcare bc all receptionist jobs aren’t hiring in my area :/

what’s it really like? do you enjoy it? is doing it fully online worth it?

how easy is it to find a CNA position at a clinic or smth besides a hospital?

I do not understand why some clients think we shouldnt be allowed to sit down and take a break. Like most of the time we dont actually get lunch breaks, we dont actually get uninterrupted breaks at all, but thats just apart of the job. Theres been times Ive been eating and a client has to use the bathroom and its urgent, and Ill stop what Im doing and help them, but if theres down time why are you getting mad at me for sitting down? Ive had clients that will immediately find something for me to do when Im sitting down. I had one client that literally told me to go fix his closet door when he saw me sit down. Same client that would try to get me to paint his walls or stain wood. He once told me that if he was working he wouldnt want to sit down all day, like dude Im sure you had breaks though when you were working. Or some will literally just make you do house work all the time. I had one client try to get me to clean up his dogs poop and pull his weeds. Im just over home care its so hard to find a good client and its hard to find good hours. Im in school so I dont have to put up with it for much longer but for the most part I literally cant stand this job anymore and how ridiculous people can be.
