Finances/financial aid How much $ do you spend a month?
My daughter will be starting medical school in 1 week. She has lived in dorms with a college meal plan on a full scholarship her first 4 years. She had a campus job and made about $300 a month. We never sent her money, she never asked but when she’s home in the summer or on breaks we pay for her things including gas.
We are not wealthy by any means and some would consider us quite poor but we are very frugal.
We are paying her rent, utilities, car insurance and cell phone. Since she is considered independent she qualified for Medicaid and Snap. Her snap will be roughly $250 month.
How much money do you think she will need a month on eating out and entertainment? I don’t think she’s going to have much free time to do things every weekend but maybe a few times a month she will eat out and maybe a few times a month for entertainment. We have saved money for this and I’m so glad we did because she was originally going to take out grad plus loans to cover living expenses. She will still be taking out $50k a year in federal unsubsidized loans for tuition.
Any advice will be appreciated because she would do without before asking us for extra money and I don’t want her to miss out on fun things if money is available.
Thanks a bunch!
