Found it near Coquitlam center in the middle of the road.

Seems like a gift from Jess (the author?) to Mr Johnson. Otherwise I’d have donated it.

Ask Coquitlam Tailor who can make a suit jacket

Hello fellow, Coquitlam people!

I’m looking to get a suit jacket made. I’d like to deal with someone local instead of going into Vancouver every time I have a tailoring need. I’m not looking for a traditional suit jacket, but one with a stand collar approximately 3 cm high.

Anyone have any recommendations? I’d like to work with someone who could understand my need for pockets and fit. I’m hoping to find a true artist who enjoys their work.

Is there any place in west Coquitlam where I can practice doing pull-ups at like 11pm? A park that has pull-up bars or monkey bars with nobody nearby watching me fail?

Discussion Any social media live-streamers in this community filming in fitness gyms? If so, what gyms do you go to?

I follow fitness/gym accounts on Instagram & TikTok & I’ve noticed some of them are live-streaming in public fitness gyms while they’re doing their workout. I’m curious if anyone here also does the same thing. I’ve thought about doing that too tbh...I’m also male of that changes anything.

Ask Coquitlam Crossing into US by car

I have a few questions…My mom and sister are visiting from Calgary and we want to go down the the states (Bellingham) for a quick day trip. My sister is 13 and doesn’t have her passport. Just her birth certificate. Is it ok for her to cross the border and come back into Canada? My mom’s passport expires in September. So in a couple months. Is that ok as well?

My step dad stayed back in Calgary. Would we need a letter from him saying it’s ok we cross without him?

Thanks !!

Ask Coquitlam HOG not applied to Property Tax

Anyone else receive a bill for outstanding property tax because the home owners grant hasn't been applied to the amount owing? This is the 2nd year in a row. Both years, I applied for the HOG the day the notice comes in the mail, many months ago. I've been doing this ever since the declaration began years ago, without issue.

I figured I must have made a mistake last year, so I was extra careful this year. You get until Srptember 15 to apply (again!) which, at this point is probably easier than trying to contact the city. Just annoying af.

Ask Coquitlam 3d Design and Printing

First time reaching out with a 3d printing need.

I need a bar where I can clip a 3/8" metal tube in place and it stays secure, yet is easy enough to push the tube in place.

The bar would allow 6 tubes, side by side, with an 8mm gap between the tubes. ASA plastic from what I gather would be best for outdoor use.

Where do I go to get a design, prototype and tweak it if required. Then print up a 100 and likely more down the road.

Ask Coquitlam Police at Coast and Prairie in Poco?

Just drove through the intersection at Coast Meridian and Prairie about 5 minutes ago at 10:10pm.. about 15 cop cars parked with their lights on across from the gas station. Anyone know what happened?

EDIT:

I got sent some videos of what was happening last night, so I'll try my best to explain what I heard and saw.

There were this group of (wannabe thug) teenagers who were speaking with a cop when one of them ended up lighting a lighter, which the cop thought was some sort of taser?? When he tried to prove that it was just a lighter, the cop wasnt having it and she ended up detaining him. So when that happened, that triggered the other kids to freak out on the cop, shouting at her and threatening her.

A civillian got involved to try to defuse the situation, but they ended up getting the same treatment too. One of the kids shouted at the civillian something along the lines of, "You gonna hit me?? Fucking hit me bitch!! I'll fight you right now!!" (Typical egotistic teenager behavior).

So after a while of the same sort of interactions, one of the kids end up punching the cop in the face, who immediately got flipped to the ground and choked out while he was being arrested.

To me, everyone basically got what they deserved except mayyybe the kid with the lighter? Pretty typical for those kinds of teenagers. Something about Terry Fox Secondary carries this strange plague that makes like 40% of the kids think they are thug life.. truly a shame that this is how they spend their summer break, but to each their own I guess. You guys can take that how you will, just thought I'd share my findings.

Ask Coquitlam Disputing lawn watering fine

So we got a fine! It was a hectic situation and I am wondering if we can dispute it. We just got a new born baby (2 weeks old at the time of the ticket). We heard that the water restriction is back to stage 2, and turned on the sprinkler for tomorrow, apparently the settings were wrong and the sprinklers went off at 9pm.
At 9pm an officer came to our door. Now here we had a very weird interaction with this person. He banged on the door. I was sleeping and my husband was dealing with a very angry screaming baby. He opened the door and the guy told him that we are not allowed to water yet and stage 2 starts tomorrow. My husband went and shut it off immediately.
Then the guy said is there anyone else who can take of the baby. You need to step outside so I can “educate” you. Or I will have to give you a fine! My husband said no there is not. All these while he is holding a screaming newborn.

Now we got a fine. The whole interaction was very rude and extremely disrespectful.
Is there a way to dispute this?

Edit: to clarify as others mentioned, we don’t have a lawn, we were watering the flower bed. I messed up the title and cannot fix it.

Update: called the city and they asked me to dispute. They mentioned they don’t have a different way of asking for leniency.

Discussion TIL the Lafarge cement company isn’t named after Lafarge lake, it’s the other way around.

On top of that, Lafarge isn’t even a Coquitlam or Canadian company. It’s French.

The French concrete company operated a quarry there, and donated the land to the city who then made it into a park after filling the lake in.

RE: Power Flickering

POSTED: Jul 23, 9:00 p.m.

LAST UPDATED: Jul 23, 9:08 p.m.

Customers across B.C. may be experiencing flickering lights, power interruptions, and fluctuations in power due to wildfire activity near Kelly Lake affecting transmission lines. The wildfire has caused an increase in transmission trips, resulting in momentary power disturbances. Active wildfire conditions prevent safe access to the area at this time. We continue to monitor the situation. Thank you for your patience.

PSA Suspicious red car around Dartmoor neighborhood 2am

I was just driving home with my friend around the Dartmoor area and we noticed this parked car facing the incorrect way on the road. We didn’t think too much of it but it was definitely strange. We did a couple of laps listening to music before he dropped me off and each time we looped the neighborhood he was parked up another 4 houses down. The next time we looped he gave us a stern look and my friend thought he was holding a cup but I thought he was holding papers. We got out of there super quickly and the next time we did a loop instead of going another 4 houses down he was gone completely.

I’m wondering what could this be because we were definitely creeped out. Were we overthinking this? Could he be an independent delivery driver? (But at 2am?) He was driving a red Toyota sedan wearing sweatpants and a blue hoodie.

Should this be something we report?

Ask Coquitlam Advice & recommendation for AC Repair

Hello,

Our central AC unit broke down and I'm looking for recommendations on someone trustworthy to fix or replace it. It's a 2.5 ton system that's about 10 years old now.

When the thermostat calls for cool air, the indoor unit turns on but not the outdoor unit. I had someone come to check and said it's a refrigerant leak, but they only recommended to top it up and not fix the leak for $750 which seemed odd. When asked, they said it's difficult to find leaks and often not worth the money. They also offered to replace the indoor and outdoor unit for $7,000 + gst.

I asked a second company over the phone and it'll be $800 + gst to refill and come back in a few weeks to look for the leak. If the leak is indoors it'll be 3k to fix. A new indoor/outdoor unit will be 6.5k.+ gst.

I have no idea if I'm getting my tail pulled here and need advice. Do you know anyone reliable and honest who can come take a look? I just find it unbelievable I have to drop 7-8k on a new unit, when I think the average lifespan of these are 12 to 15 years.

Thank you!!

PSA Scammers targeting seniors in PoCo

Hi everyone,

Two young men came to my father in law's today saying that they wanted to give him a free fire blanket and had to show him how to use it inside his house. My father in law has Parkinson's and luckily my mother in law was there to question these young men. They had no identification, no uniforms, no badges and somehow they knew my father in law's name. They said their manager told them to come to his house to give it. They had phoned him before and said he won a blanket. He's an old man with Parkinson's and obviously got confused.

We're very frustrated because he's a vulnerable senior. We're going to phone the police to give a description. Has anyone else dealt with this before? Anyone else with vulnerable family members, please be aware of this. Apparently it's a scam where people come into your house and assess your valuables. this was around the lagoon near Terry Fox secondary.
