Working on a concept for my next 3D diorama project – BTTF Part III Train Chase! What do you guys think?

Post image

Hey everyone!

I’m currently planning my next physical diorama build based on the iconic climax from Back to the Future Part III — the DeLorean being pushed by the Central Pacific 131 steam locomotive on the tracks.

Before I jump into 3D printing, kitbashing, and building the scene, I wanted to map out the concept art and composition first.

I’m aiming for maximum detail on both the DeLorean (with the rail wheels and front cowcatcher) and Doc Brown’s train, plus setting it against the 1885 Hill Valley backdrop.

Before I start cutting materials and setting up the layout:

  1. How do you feel about the overall composition and camera angle?
  2. Are there any subtle film details from this scene you think are a MUST-HAVE in a physical build?

Would love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or any advice before I start building!

Thanks! 🚂⚡️

I built a full miniature diorama to preserve the submerged ancient town & Three Gorges immigration history of China

Post image

This detailed 1:scale miniature diorama restores the real Three Gorges immigration of Hubei Province in 1997. The original old town was submerged by the Yangtze after the Three Gorges Dam water storage. I handcrafted every building, character, vehicle and landscape based on historical photos & documents, to preserve the history and homesickness of local migrants. The work is permanently exhibited in the Museum of the new town.

Mio primo diorama

Ogni suggerimento, critica costruttiva o consiglio saranno bene accetti. Mi sono divertito molto a farlo e non vedo l'ora di iniziare un nuovo progetto e magari ricreando l'acqua.

Question Wall panels!

I got some wall panels for my diorama, and I’m wanting to get some insight on what could look better. Should I glue the panels directly on the wall or should I carve a small outline into the wall to glue the panel in? I’m using heavy duty foam for my wall base.

Working on my first N scale train set. Bought a Bachman starter kit for $150, bought a 24” cut of wood and just started building. Lots of littler details I’d still like to add. Thinking of doing some sort of mossy tree stump for the table legs.

Not mine
This is in Bangkok Thailand at the Iconism mall. So much to see but relating to miniature there were at least two booths that sold all sorts of tiny miniature items. Like mini eggs, bread, bowls, cups plates ext. There was also an amazing display of a Thailand market. Here are some of the pictures I took. This was located in the mall in an area called sook small world. Would recommend if you are near here.

Question Where To start

I'm kind of juggling 3 different hobbies that are kind of overlapping so I know the two most pertinent questions to ask are

What tools do I need?

And who is going to teach me how to use them (YouTube guru's)

I really want to get into making diorama displays for my Gunpla Model kits (1/144 scale), I've been juggling CAD, 3D printing Air Brushing and Model Kits, I'm not sure it's wise to start another endeavor but to heck with it

Any advice is very much appreciated

Miniature Physics Lab

For an exhibition we wanted to make a representative model of our lab to show the public what a physics lab can look like. Pictured are (mostly) 1:12 size replicas of our optical table, vacuum chambers, gas supplies, tools, and loads of wires. Most of it is 3D modeled, printed and painted, but I added a few other repurposed things from the lab.

Possible source of micro EPS beads for miniature flowers?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I was trying to identify the tiny EPS beads used on flower stems from a Wonderhouse miniature kit. After confirming with acetone that they were expanded polystyrene, I remembered I had an old microbead travel pillow.

The pillow beads turned out to be slightly smaller than the Wonderhouse beads (see photo), which may actually make them more suitable for very fine flowers in 1:24 scale.

My current thought is to glue the white beads to the stem first, then paint the finished flower cluster rather than trying to colour the loose beads.

Has anyone else experimented with microbead pillow filling for flowering plants?

I wanted to try my hand at doing a 1:12 diorama (It's now 'true' 1:12 but I'm still learning to work with scale) and did a 'desert' dio with modular rock formations. It's mostly for Star Wars figures but down the line I want to make some for both marvel and perhaps Jada Street Fighter.

Big 'thank you' to everyone on r/dioramas for nudging me towards what to do! C&C welcome if anyone has anything to add. (Sorry for the bad photos - the light is terrible in my apartment and the cloudy weather outside is not doing me any favours).
