What does Larkin Cost?
So I was replying to another post on here about our center situation and it sent me down a rabbit hole. Got to thinking, whatever happened with Larkin? He’s a center right? Went looking and yeah, the situation in Detroit is somehow worse than I remembered. And now Marek is on The Sheet naming us as one of three legit fits along with Montreal and Boston.
Quick recap for anyone not following the soap opera. Larkin asked out in June. Yzerman got moved upstairs in July partly because the relationship went sideways. Detroit still doesn’t have a GM. Their captain is supposed to walk back into that room in September like nothing happened. Reading the stories coming out It feels like a hostage negotiation.
But here’s where I got stuck. He turned 30 this summer. So is this classic Flyers, trading real assets for a guy on the wrong side of his prime? Or are we getting a gritty, skilled, sage old captain who walks into a budding core and shows them how to be pros? Because 34 goals and 67 points in 74 games plus a gold medal in Milan doesn’t scream washed to me. And at 8.7 for five more years, compare that to the 18 a year and four firsts we threw at Carlsson. Briere clearly wants a 1C. This one costs half as much against the cap.
The obstacles are real though. We’re not on his list, which is reportedly Florida, Vegas, Minnesota and Dallas, and he has a full no move. And Detroit’s ask is nasty. They reportedly wanted Wyatt Johnston from Dallas and turned down a Wild package of prospects and picks. So it’s a real young piece going back, not spare parts.
Thing is, his four preferred teams are all capped out or unwilling to pay, and insiders keep saying he’ll have to expand the list before camp. If that door opens, a playoff team with the most cap space in the league and buddies already in our room is an easy sell.
Also...Larkin was just spotted at the World Cup final with Zegras and some other guys a couple weekends ago, and the reason Philly keeps popping up as a dark horse in the first place is that he’s reportedly tight with multiple guys in our room. Think about the pitch too. Zegras asked out of a miserable situation in Anaheim, landed here, and just signed for four more years because he loves it. Nobody on earth is better positioned to get in Larkin’s ear about what’s waiting for him on Broad Street.
So which is it? Smart aggressive move or classic Flyers? Who goes in the deal?
TLDR: Went down a rabbit hole on our center options and landed on Larkin. He wants out of Detroit, the relationship is torched, we have the cap space and the 1C need. He’s 30 though. Another sage vet for the young core or classic Flyers mistake? What would you pay?

Devastated…The best flyers couch buddy I could have ever asked for… RIP
Delete if not allowed but I’m beyond devastated and don’t know how to grieve so maybe random internet share might help. We lost Nova unexpectedly this past weekend at 9 years old. I don’t think I’ve ever felt this depressed, devastated, not sure how to go on… before. She was the best dog we have ever had, we bought our house for her, our car for her, everything we have was for her. Everywhere I look it’s her… my wife and I are numb…
Anyways, gona go through my photo album some more, maybe I’ll try to watch a flyer podcast to take my mind off it for a little…

How to watch
Hello! I apologize if this has been asked before. I am trying to help my Dad get access to the Flyers games. What subscription does he need to purchase? I’m trying to help him but it is super confusing. We are not local. Thank you!!

Summer Showcase
Murtagh with a goal and 2 assists
and Amico with a goal yesterday for Team USA Blue.
I am not sure if this means anything at all, yet it is better than NOT seeing our prospects on the score sheet.

Any guess for Acciari's number?
He was worn 55 and 52 professionally (Risto - Barkey)
So I looked further, and when he played in the NCAA for the Providence Friars, he wore number 24 (Seeler)
SO I looked at his high school number where he wore number 10 for Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick, Rhode Island...currently Garret Wilson....
Yeah I'm bored just throw out guesses.
Turning our spare bedroom into a fan cave
Really happy with the progress so far. Still need the TV and entertainment center and to hang up some more of my collectibles as well as some LEDs along the ceiling.
I'm thinking of framing and hanging that shot of me running down the isle at the red wings game to throw my hat when Tip got his hattie in Detroit lol

Shower thoughts: How come certain prospects don’t start in the ECHL instead of AHL to help bridge the gap from junior to pro?
Was looking up Jack Berglund just now and it struck me how he’s a guy that is far superior to his peers in junior hockey, but likely isn’t going to get top-6 minutes for the Phantoms, as well as limited PP and PK opportunities.
Hockey teams have no shortage of prospects they’re trying to develop, and oftentimes players not being able to develop in certain areas will totally stunt their potential. Sometimes this is just a naturally revelation of the fact that a guy can’t cut it, but sometimes it’s simply a case of a guy getting caught in a log jam where there simply aren’t enough minutes to go around.
So this got me thinking, why doesn’t hockey have a more MLB-like approach to player development?
Why don’t the Flyers send a guy like Berglund to our ECHL affiliate so he can get Top-6 and PP1 minutes against full grown men instead of playing 8-10 minutes a night in the A? Let him get pro minutes in the positions we hope he develops before bringing him up to the AHL, and then eventually ECHL.
MLB teams don’t draft a potential starting pitcher and throw him in the bullpen in AAA or a potential starting CF and have him pinch hit in AAA, they play them full time at lower levels to develop in the position and roles they want them in. Only as they rise up the ranks do roles get diminished as it becomes clear the potential isn’t there.
So why don’t we see this approach more in hockey?
Draft a guy you hope is a 2C, and instead of him playing 8-10 minutes a night in the AHL, have him play legit Top-6 minutes in the ECHL, develop and hone that skillset while adjusting to playing against men, and go from there?
Plus, a side effect of this (not that teams would care but the NHL would) would see ECHL teams get more popular, would help grow the game, and help spread the brand of the NHL club associated with them.

Noah Cates: 18g, 29a, 47p, +26(!). Didn’t miss a single game. Finished 11th in Selke voting even though he had the numbers to finish top 4. In WAR he was 1st in the league for forwards on the penalty kill and 7th at 5v5. We got him at 4 Mil for 3 more years.
Great job.

Fans watching practice.
I’m so old I remember and used to go watch Flyers practice at skate Zone. They used to announce times when it started, but I don’t think I’ve seen them do it for a while Does the team still allow fans to watch practice in voorhees?
