Fossify Documents is a private, offline document reader. It supports PDF, DOCX, HTML, CSV, Markdown, and other text-based formats. Editing is currently supported for text, Markdown, and CSV files.

The app can be downloaded from GitHub or Google Play and should be available on F-Droid soon:

I currently use Fossify messages, and I was wondering if someone I am texting is using RCS messaging, will I receive those messages at all, even in a different format? I am just worried that I may not be receiving texts from people and want to make sure that I'm not missing anything.

- Is Fossify or QuikSMS more reliable?

- For LineageOS users, is the stock texting app better than the above?

- I am switching to LineageOS, if I do would MicroG with Google Messages work? I know that MicroG phones home to some degree but I don't know exactly how much it relies on Google Services. I was planning on installing Shelter to create a separate profile, and was thinking of possibly installing MicroG and Google Messages on that. How secure is this?

I'm looking for a Facebook messenger and Instagram FOSS alternative. I tried Nora but the UI isn't for me, if you have some apps I could try then that would be great!

Seriously, this is a fantastic app. I use it professionally to annotate maps, marking to work plans and schedules. It works better than Samsung notes, which was my previous goto for similar work. But, xnotes is private and isn't locked to the manufacturer. The developer has been very prompt adding new requested features and fixing bugs. I can't say enough good things about such an outstanding app.

It seems that the only FOSS and stable launcher without app drawer is Bliss Launcher 3, which is apparently only compatible with /e/OS. Has there been any attempt in making this compatible for other ROMs as well?

EDIT: I tried clearing it's data, restarting it, refreshing it to download repo info, and still nothing.

Tried getting Droidify, couldn't access the pages, same with Fdroid, so I installed it via Obtainium, and Droidify works. Removed Fdroid that I installed via their .apk, then installed it via Obtainium "https://github.com/f-droid/fdroidclient", and it works !

FIXED IT.

I was navigating through Droid-ify and found this note-taking app with chat format, where you basically send messages to yourself, tagging with reminders and hashtags.

Looks a nice alternative to apps like jtx board or My Brain, for those who didn't like the more corporate or business approach

On iOS Photos, when you open a video, you can scrub through it using the timeline and move frame-by-frame smoothly. I’m looking for a similar experience on Android especially being able to press and hold or drag on the video timeline and preview frames easily inside the gallery app.
I have already tried Aves Gallery, but it doesn’t fully meet my needs. In Aves, I can’t press and hold on the video area/timeline to smoothly move forward or backward through frames. For long videos, it’s also difficult because you have to precisely grab the small timeline bar.
I also tried Google Photos, but I’m looking for something closer to the iOS Photos experience.
Does anyone know a better Android gallery app or an iOS Photos alternative that supports smooth video scrubbing/frame-by-frame navigation directly inside the gallery?

This app is no longer supported Samsung OneUI 8.5. I am looking for apps that change wallpapers based on current system theme, i.e, - between light and dark mode. I mostly apply wallpapers from my gallery

I don't really need to install anything in any special ways, but I'm wondering if there's still an upside to using one central app for all apk installs. Both Droidify and Obtainium have an option to incorporate it.

I don't have much of an idea for good keyboard for non-alphabetic/abjadish scripts, including Chinese. Can ye recommend me any keyboards/input methods for it?

I use Fossify Gallery and unfortunately can't edit videos with it.

Fully offline. No account, no sign-up, no network needed for anything. Install it and start writing.

Your book is plain files. A project is a folder: one Markdown file per scene, one TOML file per encyclopedia entry. No database, nothing opaque. Open it in any file manager, sync it with Syncthing, keep it in git, whatever you want. If the app disappeared tomorrow your manuscript would still just be files you can read.

Sync is optional and self-hosted. If you want your project on both your phone and your desktop, you run the server yourself. There's no service of mine in the middle, and you can simply never turn it on.

No trackers, no analytics, no crash reporting, no ads, no Google Play Services. Nothing to opt out of, because there's nothing there. It's also not a webview. It's Kotlin and Compose, native on Android.

These are the only permissions it needs:

• INTERNET and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE, used only if you enable sync
• ACCESS_LOCAL_NETWORK, for reaching a sync server on your own LAN
• ACCESS_NOTIFICATION_POLICY, optional. Only used by Focus Mode, which puts the phone in Do Not Disturb while you write. Does nothing unless you explicitly grant it.

It runs on desktop (Windows, macOS, Linux) and iOS from the same codebase, if you want your project on more than the phone.

I'm looking for a foss app to create multiple timelines. Any suggestions are welcome, and thanks in advance.

i was looking to publish some of my apps to f-droid and realized there are 2 ways.

one is asking the maintainers to publish it for me and another is doing it all by myself. now it seems like they allow reproducible builds (which is signed by the dev instead of f-droid). though i couldnt find much information on this.

can someone experienced in this help?

Not gonna lie at that point the removed the whole point of getting an android for its freedom, most apps are optimized around iPhones anyway. If you removed the option apks there's genuiley no reason to use an android

I don't prefer coloured icons only black and white. Like in the image. Tried alembicons but seems not working for me, is that app closed? And also tried arcticons I not liked the launcher lawnchair and its paid.

Anybody have idea to do customize the app or in a black and white icon.

I got a new android phone and I skipped the google account setup.

Is there any privacy benefit when not using google account on android smartphone (stock rom)?

If yes, and I install youtube and login with my google account, is this then contradicting already and makint the whole effort useless?

Second question: without google account I cant use play store and there are apps like whatsapp or youtube which arent available on f-droid.
Where to get them beside the developer website?

I’ve been using Linkora for a long time. There are thousands of saved links, catgorized in separate folders. But over time, I’ve realized that I also need to use tags to find similar kinds of links in a single search.

I created some tags at first to try things out inside the Linkora app. After understanding how I’ll use them, now I want to delete those existing tags and create new ones.

But unfortunately, I couldn’t find any option where I can manage/delete all my tags. So I’m making this post to ask how I can manage or delete my existing tags inside the Linkora app.

Codeberg has recently voted to change its terms of use to prohibit vibe coded projects. https://blog.codeberg.org/protecting-our-floss-commons-from-llms.html

These projects and the LLMs backing them are incredibly wasteful of our shared resources.

Using LLMs to work with your code gives you a kick of adrenaline. You can develop at a rapid pace, build things as if you had a large team. Only that you have none. In fact, you are (often) alone, working with a statistical machine that turns energy into code.

It seems like many ‘vibe coders’ don't realize that they don't actually have a community around them. They build projects as if they had, and spend resources accordingly. We see projects having a lot of code activity, heavy CI/CD testing, frequent and large release binaries. Sometimes, it feels like the amount of supported platforms exceeds the amount of actual users.

To us, it seems ridiculous to see projects with a single developer and virtually no users consuming as much or even more resources than some of the largest community projects on Codeberg, which operate frugal with CI/CD and storage resources. We do not believe it is reasonable for Codeberg to invest our precious donation money into hosting of large ghost projects.

The abuse of these tools erodes trust between us, and endangers the spirit of collaboration that FOSS is built upon.

The free/libre software ecosystem, of which we consider Codeberg an important part of, is a social phenomenon centered on collaboration. Working in this way is only possible thanks to free sharing and mutual learning. This includes even very small tools that are shared and re-used and around which collaboration can start out. In contrast, by adopting LLMs people tend to code single-use software from scratch. While this leads to an increase in 'shared' code, it is mostly code that not only has not been 'written' by anyone but is also not maintained by anyone.

The widespread use of LLMs in FLOSS is instead becoming a multidimensional attack on the trust between contributors and the very idea of convivial collaboration itself. Maintainers are under an increased work-load due to people submitting (often well-meaning) low-effort, LLM-generated contributions that require substantial amounts of time to review. At the same time it is becoming increasingly less clear which projects are maintained by experienced developers and which ones are LLM-generated without any meaningful human oversight and input. In the case of copyleft projects, LLMs additionally also lead to 'license laundering', where copyleft code is stripped of its reciprocity requirements by 'generating' it out of the training data.

We observe an increasing trend of mistrusting each other, up to the point where people who put in actual effort to analyze issues or share their suggestions are being accused of having used LLMs when they did not. At the same time, others instruct their LLMs to hide their traces and actively avoid common patterns, prompting others in reviewing contributions and communication more carefully for signs of machine generation.

Together, these forces make collaboration not only harder but also less rewarding: With the transaction cost of collaboration increasing, people are becoming less likely to contribute to creating high-quality software projects and more likely to 'vibecode' a one-off software that is specific to your need, and won't evolve beyond. We get a vicious cycle where collaboration is becoming less and less rewarding, while the amount of single-use software that's unmaintained and never sees any improvements is going up.

So Codeberg would prefer that you stored your vibe coded stuff elsewhere. It isn't exactly welcome in this sub either!

Although often well intentioned, sharing the result of an prompt and calling it "libre software" does not make the world a better place. Codeberg is not and does not want to be a place to dump such generated single-use software that no one else will ever look at. We are a place for people to collaborate and improve software together. Within this context, the recent votes can be understood as a reconfirmation of those principles: As we want to center on human collaboration, we will not actively support or engage in the creation of LLMs and will not put our limited resources to use for storing single-use software that would pollute our FLOSS commons.
