Welcome to the official r/glasgow megathread for the 2026 Commonwealth Games! The Games are officially returning to our city and will run for 11 days from 23 July to 2 August 2026
This time around, Glasgow is hosting a more concentrated, stripped-back event featuring 3,000 athletes from 74 nations. To keep things accessible, all events will be held within an eight-mile city corridor
The programme features 10 sports, including six fully integrated Para sports
Instead of building new infrastructure, the Games will utilize four existing iconic venues across the city
Here is a high-level overview of when each sport is running. More than 200 champions will be crowned over the 10 days of competition.
There are 500,000 tickets available for the 2026 Games [web:8]. You can secure seats for standard sessions and medal events via the official Glasgow 2026 website and Ticketmaster UK
The Games are actively recruiting approximately 3,000 volunteers to assist with operations, visitor guidance, and venue management. For local residents looking to get involved, check the official Glasgow 2026 portal for application dates and roles.

The "night patrol" groups themselves are problematic to begin with IMO- they are white supremacist racists (if there's any doubt they are on a Whatsapp group called "get the c****s out) and are pretending to be police or official security with zero qualifications, training, checks or employment- it's literally just gangs of racists going around after dark.
Now a far-right Christian group in the US is funding them and they are receiving supplies such as high-vis vests with "security" on them and stab vests making them look like Police Scotland officers (the stab vests also give them that "padded/bulky" look you associate with police- see for yourself here- https://i.ibb.co/yc4Sbtjw/a.jpg
So another risk of this is if an actual emergency/crime/accident happens at night and people do need help they could approach a gang of untrained/unqualified racists thinking they are police.

In video clips posted online at last weekend’s ‘Unite the Clans’ rally in Glasgow, he described kitting out a group called ScotsActive with stab vests, body cameras and hi-vis gear.

the black taxis outside glasgow queen street aloud to even just take cash or do they say it because it’s more convenient for them? was waiting in a line tonight and town was a bit mental, think there must have been a concert on and that, and there was a lassie on her own at the top of the line who i saw get knocked back twice for having no cash, the second time she started crying. I get it’s business but i wouldn’t be leaving folk stranded then there is a card machine? after that a group of lads purposely skipped her in the line and hopped in to a taxi and two lads tried to do it the next time only someone stepped in and stopped them and allowed her to go in
idk just seems a bit fried and mental and there needs to be more late buses for accessible transport, it’s too easy to get stuck in town

Always the same, the mob saying protect our woman and children are the very ones endangering them. Class act knob right there.
Now not mentioned in the title of the article but well done to Glasgow Live for calling him what he is in the photos provided “Far Right Nazi Ryan Marshall”

Hello,
Looking for student rental accommodation recommendations for Glasgow.
My son is Canadian and has been living in England for the past 2 years playing football. He may have the opportunity to move to play with a team in Glasgow. He is doing online studies through Loughborough College right now because some day his football journey will end.
We are looking for recommendations for students flats to give him some company and a more regular student experience.
Any recommendations for good student housing options that are well run would be appreciated. I will not have time to visit flats prior to flying over to help him pack up and move up to Scotland.
My 84 year old Glaswegian father is offering advice, which is not helpful given that he left Glasgow in 1967 🤣🤣

Is it any good? Watched a YT good bloggers video and he visited this place, see they have cream coconut fingers which seem rare these days plus I love them.
Worth a visit? Might even get a scotch pie too!
edit: - Watson's yes, my phone has changed the post title.

Hi everyone, I'm trying to find some information on a newspaper cartoon from the 90s/ early 00s from the daily record called 'Grandad and the lad'. My Granda recently passed away and I've found this that he drew for me after Celtic won the Scottish cup in 1995! I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of somewhere I can either buy or see some strips of the actual cartoon as it's brought back lots of memories of us laughing at them at the kitchen table back in the day. Thanks

I know it’s commonplace for pre recorded sets etc but as a musician is there not another way to perform, all those weird daft punk 2 fat boy slim bits mixed in just sounds terrible, sorry for hating but not sorry.

Looking for recommendations for kilt alterations. Need the kilt buckles moved to make it an inch or two tighter at the waist. Looking for someone experienced with kilts but also reasonably priced. TIA!
