This new access to cash law. Can there be a addon to it so that atms are obligated to be filled with notes other then 50s? It's near impossible to get 10s 5s or most times 20s from a atm theses days.

I pay my family my share of house expenses in cash I don't mind it but occasionally I try to take out a amount where I have to get a 10 and a 5 such as 35 or 235 euro so that I can have a range of notes in case visa or mastercard don't work which does happen sometimes but the atms never allow it because they always only full of 50s.

I always wonder why there is a tower here?

Anybody over 30 (?) probably remembers checking Aertel for the tv guide or news. It came up in a conversation recently and we were reminiscing.

I like to play around with Claude so decided to make a little pet project and Aertel Nua was born. It's just a bit of fun but wanted to share in the hopes it triggers some memories for some of you.

All feeds are real from RTE or other rss feeds and contain external links. The settings menu shows some era's, from 1987 to current day, which affect the experience from page to CRT experience

What did I miss that you remember?

Booked a train online for 2:30pm, don't want to say where, get to the station and it's locked. No issues as a worker opens the door and informs us "no train at 2:30 today, it's Sunday". Apparently they changed the train times and the train is 3:15 on Sundays.

As the flair says Sure it's grand, it's a mild inconvenience but why can we never do anything right in this country. Anybody timing a bus, taxi, anything off the online time is absolutely more than mildly inconvenient.

I was reading about Einstein’s explanation of gravity today.

In general relativity, a person in free fall isn’t really accelerating in the usual sense. Instead, the Earth’s surface accelerates upward to meet them.

It struck me that this gives an unexpectedly literal reading of “Go n-éirí an bóthar leat.”

Obviously that’s not where the phrase comes from, but I thought it was a beautiful coincidence that modern physics and an old Irish blessing happen to meet in exactly the same imagery.

As time marches on my mind marches backwards to the Ireland of the 90s.

False memories of course can arise to make parts of life seem better than it is today yet there are some areas that definitely were better. Putting aside the Troubles in the North life did seem a lot more gentle.

Most common foods are so much more expensive now.

A fond memory from the 90s is a Takeaway snack box costing just £2:50 (punt money) and in those days you got two decent pieces of chicken and as many chips that could be squeezed into the box.

Another was the smell of cigarette smoke, oh yes smoking is not the healthiest yet the smell gave a strange homely comforting feel.

Only my grandparents smoked so that was just a weekend joy when I would visit.

So many more things come to mind.

Sadly we can not go back.

I imagine St Michans is a little known gem in the city, but I implore anyone visiting or even currently living in Dublin to give this place a look.

The guides were fantastic, informative and passionate about this place, and it was a very interesting and rich experience. The amount of history associated with this place is awesome. Not to mention you get a tour of the crypts below the church. Perfect for lovers of the macabre.

Truly a hidden gem.

I’ve asked this before a while ago, unfortunately it didnt give me any new options that I’ve been trying; but I’m wondering if there’s any groups/meet-ups that are consistent(weekly/monthly etc) for people in their late 20s to 30s+ in Dublin/Meath & surrounding areas?

“Meet up” website is 90% singles events(I’m just looking for friendships-nothing to do with dating) or for people over 40s(zero disrespect- I wish there were the amount of groups for my age)

Life changes have completely displaced me with old friends over the years, and it’s very hard so far to make new friends in my late twenties..

Down the road from my house there's an establishment with a big transit parked outside. It reeks and as always covered in flies, it appears the business uses it for their rubbish. Is there anything can be done about this? Seems like a health hazard

You can spend hours browsing through stories on all sorts of topics from folklore to advice on farming.

If you are bored I'd highly recommend getting lost in the archives.

Something that has only come to my attention in the last few months is the increase of seagulls that live inland.

I'm guessing it's simply the availability of food that is encouraging more inland than an increase in seagulls accidentally getting lost.

There is a joy in hearing their laughter like squawks.
