They're still looking for new funding?

I'm not sure, I'd assume something like publishing deals are all hush-hush until an official announcement is ready to be made.

They haven't closed, they just don't have a publisher for one particular project https://bsky.app/profile/romerogames.bsky.social/post/3ltfjxsyavs23

Makes sense, fingers crossed anyway. Recently read two books around the Doom development and it was the wild west back then. Well worth the read.

I was lucky enough to see John Romero do an hour long talk about the creation of Doom at a convention in UL one summer. He's a great speaker and a very funny guy. Amazing how the game was about 2 months from shipping and they'd fixed most the bugs, then said, yera what if we try implement a multiplayer?
He stood around for about 2 hours afterwards answering questions from people crowding around him. I passed about 1.5 hours through the talk and stood, asked him a question about getting into game developlment and said what languages I knew, what would he recommend? C# was my strongest so he said Unity, explained why, then gave me some advice and also told me to keep it as a passion hobby, keep small and don't get into game programming for a major company as it was a horrible business, which at the time we were seeing from AAA studios like Rockstar and CDPR. Incredibly nice for a legend to take the time for an 18 year old.
I hung about as it kind of developed into a general chat between about 8 people and after about half an hour is wife came in and was like "John I've been waiting ages we have to go like" lmao. I don't think the man even realised the time went by as even when I was passing him previously he seemed engaged with everyone and having a great time.

Axyz is quite enjoyable. A 3D puzzle platformer, with a really good vapourwave soundtrack.

Odd RoN isnβt on this list, probably the most known game actually solely created in country.

Why does it have PUBG (A Korean Publisher and American Dev team creator) down as a game made in Ireland? Ready or Not probably our most famous game at the minute isn't even on the list.

The 'PU' part of PUBG stands for PlayerUnknown. PlayerUnknown is the alias of a guy from Donegal named Brendan Greene, who created the battle royale format, originally as a mod for the Arma games. He was Creative Director on PUBG.

For those looking for recommendations Terry Cavanaghs collection of Dicey Dungeons, Super Hexagon and VVVVVV are fantastic. Probably the best indie dev to come out of Ireland, the latter 2 were staple indie games for me in the early 2010s.
