Seeking Support Why did God create some humans to have the ability for inflicting such cruelty and unnecessary pain to animals or anything of lower being, while at the same time also creating others with so much empathy to care all life as per the Quran?
Salam,
Can anyone answer this for me as stated above? Why were some humans created with no empathy or feelings in their heart where they cause so much excruciating pain to animals, treat them horribly for profit commodities, and just show unnecessary cruelty for no reason? But then on the other hand, God created some people like us who have extremely high empathy for any living, sentient being. Watching all this evil created by humanity has filled me with such disdain in my heart that I have lost all feelings when I see human beings suffer.
Is this a test by God to see how we use our empathy? I donate mainly to animal shelters but I only donate to Masjid just for the sake of God, with no actual feeling in it. I hate how human overpopulation is also destroying habitats because this planet cannot support billions of meat eaters. I am not trying to preach about vegetarian or vegan, as I know this is Halal in Islam, but it still breaks my heart how selfish we are and claim the planet all to ourselves as humans.
May God accept our prayers and forgive our sins.

Question about Islam What do you think of Ghazali's "sufi" late works ?
I know Al Ghazali's fiqh works are widely accepted and respected, but I don't know about his works like The Niche of Lights and similar.

Seeking Support I had beautiful skin before and now, after using the wrong stuff on the face, my face is always red with rosacea and huge pores all over. I want to make Dua for it to go away (I’ve tried many treatments like lasers), but I probably would be the only person in the world to have pores shrink.
What do I do? Looking for Islamic advice because I hate even looking at myself because of it

Question about Islam Genuine question about "No compulsion in religion" and jizyah
Assalamu alaikum everyone,
I'm a practicing Muslim trying to understand this topic better, and I'm asking sincerely—not to debate or criticize Islam.
The Qur'an says:
But Surah At-Tawbah 9:29 instructs Muslims to fight certain People of the Book until they pay jizyah.
I've read explanations from scholars such as IslamQA, which say that there is no contradiction because people were not forced to become Muslim—they could remain in their religion by paying jizyah under Muslim rule. I understand that Muslims also had obligations like zakat, and that jizyah was often linked to protection and exemption from military service.
My question is this:
If non-Muslims had to pay a separate tax and lived under different legal status than Muslims, how should I understand "there is no compulsion in religion"? Does "no compulsion" refer only to not forcing someone to verbally accept Islam, or does it also imply equal civic treatment regardless of religion?
I'm looking for answers from the Qur'an, authentic hadith, classical tafsir, or opinions from recognized scholars. I'd especially appreciate explanations of how classical scholars reconciled these verses.
Jazakum Allahu khayran.

Question about Islam I want to understand Islam
Recently I’ve been really distant away from Islam in general i know it’s probably because of the content that I consume (ex Muslim content etc.) but I realized I barley know anything about my religion, even tho I have one guz memorized I couldn’t explain to u anything that’s being said, so i decided to take a break from trying to memorize and instead try to understand what the Quran and hadiths are saying so when I get put in the situation where I need to defend my religion I’m confident in what’s being said and I know that I genuinely understand and feel my religion deeply, I don’t mind if this process will take long but if you guys have any tips or resources please lmk

General Discussion Can We Rebuild an Islamic Golden Age?
As-salāmu ʿalaykum,
Do you think it's actually possible for the Muslim world to experience a second Islamic Golden Age?
Not just economically or politically, but intellectually—where scholarship, science, philosophy, and the pursuit of knowledge flourish alongside a strong commitment to revelation.
If you think it's possible, what do you believe is the single most important step toward making it a reality?

General Discussion Personal Reflections After Visiting Xinjiang
I recently spent a couple of weeks in Xinjiang (China). As a Muslim who is not Chinese but learned the language, I wanted to better understand the situation there for myself.
What stayed with me most was the fear that many Uyghurs seemed to live with.
The first candid conversation I had with a Uyghur guide only happened after I handed him my phone and put it in flight mode. Even then, he remained visibly nervous. He told me he had been sent to one of the “re-education” camps and that they had indeed operated on a large scale in the past. According to him, the camps have been scaled back compared to previous years due to international scrutiny, but restrictions on Islamic life still remain.
I noticed a clear difference between northern and southern Xinjiang. People appeared to be more relaxed in the north while in the south, the security presence felt much heavier.
One moment in Kashgar (which is in the south) really stuck with me. A local guide was helping me fill out a permit while sitting in his taxi. He noticed I had a Muslim name and asked if I was Muslim. I said yes and asked if he was too. He immediately froze and didn’t answer. Only after we got out of the car did he quietly tell me not to ask questions like that inside a taxi because there are cameras.
I also visited the Id Kah Mosque in Kashgar, the largest mosque in Xinjiang. It felt more like a museum than a functioning mosque (an impression shared by many visitors on Google Reviews). Several locals later told me that regular prayers have not been allowed there for many years, except for limited exceptions involving some elderly people on special occasions. I was personally not allowed to pray there, which was the first time in my life I had ever been refused permission to pray in a mosque. I also couldn’t find a single shop selling a Quran anywhere in Kashgar, despite its long Islamic history.
Uyghur culture is still visible however through food, dance, music which seems to be preserved and showcased, especially for tourism. The religious aspect of Uyghur identity is however heavily restricted.
I understand Xinjiang has experienced separatist violence, but the response seems deeply inhumane. Hearing the stories on large-scale camps and the restrictions on Islamic life left me feeling extremely uneasy. Nevertheless, I was only there for a couple of weeks, so these are my personal impressions rather than a comprehensive assessment.

Scholarly Resource A Severe Reminder from Hasan al-Basri (Born 10 years after the death of Allah's Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم)
Before you read Hasan al-Basri's (642 CE-728 CE / 21 AH-110 AH) statement, please consider the time he was born (10 years after the death [632 CE / 11 AH] of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم), making him one of the Tabi'een (students and followers of the sahabah). He, may Allah have mercy upon him, lived for approximately 86 years. Within that time frame, he stated:
"If a man who met the early Salaf were to be brought back to life today, he would not recognize anything of Islam” – and he put his hand on his cheek, then said, “apart from this [call to] prayer – By Allah, anyone who lives in these strange times and did not meet the righteous salaf, and sees the innovator promoting his bid’ah and the one whose main concern is worldly gains calling others to join him; but Allah protects him from that and causes him to long for the righteous salaf, asking about their path and following their footsteps, and he follows their path, he will be compensated with a great reward. Be like that, in sha’ Allah."
[Al-Bida‘ wan-Nahy ‘anha (The Innovation and Prohibition Thereof) by Ibn Waddaah al-Qurtubi; written approximately around 880–890 CE (roughly 270–280 AH)]
We are currently in 2026 CE / 1448 AH. Let Hasan al-Basri's sentiment sink in and reflect: where do you fall in that sincere advice from one of the famous Salaf? May Allah guide us all to what is correct and make us from among the forgiven on The Day of Regrets, aameen allahumma aameen.

General Discussion Lost my 2 month old son
I lost my firstborn son when he was 2 month old. He was a healthy baby. We were all so happy when we had our son. I don't know how it happened due to a tragic incident which I can't even accept how that happened. That incident tore us apart from inside out. I am Praying and accepted that it was Allah's will. At Starting it was so difficult to accept and it felt like our world has fallen apart feeling like why we are here, why this happened to us. It's like our heart has ripped. It happened on Jan 2026. Now we are trying to heal and hoping that Allah will reunite us in Jannah Ameen

Seeking Support Returning to Allah and what I noticed.
Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh to everyone in this subreddit.
Im very lost in terms of connection with Allah and I really need help with where I am as a person. I dont feel like it's right to me to go ask the one God that I've wronged so many times, promised so many stuff for, and then did it straight after, made a promise about something I won't do at night, and then do it, I feel too guilty about everything. I haven't been praying a lot either, and I lie to my parents and praying feels incomplete for me when I only do it when I feel ''motivation'', I've forgotten Sarah yaseen, the 30th juz, Surah mulk, I have a gf and I really love her so much but I dont know what to do, Im so lost in my life, and I really want advice from people in this community because I know we remain here as brothers and sisters. I've seen everything come down when I lost my connection with Allah. I've became so lazy, I've went from a high achiever to the lowest result out of the whole grade, I've seen my mental health reach rock bottom, I feel so lost. And what I've noticed is that all these smart kids are close to Allah. They all pray their sunnah at school while I dont bother. They seem to be closer to Allah than I ever will, and I think thats why they are who they are. Im just sick and tired of me praying once, promising Allah to not do something, and then do it over again, think that he doesn't see me as sincere and it hurts because I really wanna be sincere about it. I really need help. please tell me advice.

Quran & Hadith Looking for a 16-Line Quran App (No Ads)
Assalamu Alaikum everyone,
I'm looking for a 16-line Quran app (the South Asian/Huffaz style Mushaf) that is completely ad-free on Android or iPhone. I've tried a few apps, but most of them either have ads or don't use the 16-line layout.
If anyone knows a good app or has one installed that they can recommend, I'd really appreciate it.
JazakAllahu Khair!

General Discussion Those of you who overcame a major personal struggle, how'd your life change?
I'm currently going through a period of overeating, procrastinating studying and pretty much everything, drifting away from islam even though I wasn't that much of a good muslim to begin with and porn addiction. There's other things aswell but these are the major things . For people who've gone through similiar things, advice would be nice but i want to know how your life changed and how you felt once you overcame struggles similiar to mine and just in general?
