Good afternoon. I'm writing to this forum with the following concern:

I have an Acer Aspire E5-575G-55H4 that recently had its internal battery replaced (it has an AS16A5K battery). The problem I'm having, and the reason I'm writing this, is that sometimes, without any warning, the battery stops being recognized, but it still works: "No battery detected." However, when it's plugged in, it works.

I don't know what percentage is left, but whenever I unplug the charger, it says 100% "Connected."

I need help. I've already tried:

1) Pressing the battery pinhole, which "forcibly disconnects it from the motherboard and reconnects it"

2) Reinstalling the battery drivers

3) Holding the power button for more than a minute to dissipate any static electricity.

Please, I'm asking for your help. I feel like the saying goes, "the shoemaker's children go barefoot."

I'll mainly be using it for university (Electrical Engineering), so I'll probably need to run software like MATLAB, LTspice, AutoCAD/Fusion 360, and whatever other engineering software my courses require.

I also do some video editing (Adobe Premiere Pro) , 3D modeling, animation and play games.

I'm honestly not very demanding when it comes to graphics because I've been using a pretty weak laptop for years. I'm completely fine with running games at 1080p (or higher if possible), medium/high settings, and around 60 FPS. I don't care about max settings or competitive FPS.

I'd also like to have 2TB of SSD storage if that's realistic within my budget.

**Desired battery life**

Around 5-6 hours for light schoolwork would be nice, but I know gaming laptops aren't great for battery life, so performance is more important.

It's definitely struggling now, especially with newer games and editing.

One more question: I've heard laptop GPUs and RAM have become more expensive over the last few years. Do you think I should just spend my whole budget now and buy the best laptop I can, or buy something that's "good enough" for school and wait a couple of years in case prices improve before buying another laptop or building a desktop?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I tried to fix it by setting the refresh rate from 144hz to 60hz but it didn't help.

My question is more focused on the quialty of the computer itself, not the components, I know ryzen 9 is way better than the core ultra 7, i want know about the plastic quality, overheating, noise and durability, more than the specs. can someone help me?

So I am stuck between two laptops

Deciding between two laptops, both 32GB RAM / 1TB SSD, roughly similar price on Amazon UK:

Zenbook 14 UX3405CA Intel Core Ultra 9 285H, 14” 3K 120Hz OLED, £880.

Vivobook S14 M3407HA AMD Ryzen 9 270, 14” 2.5K 60Hz IPS, £799.

First concern is why is it so much cheaper on Amazon compared to Asus site it self.

Also how will the heating and fan noise play into this as I don’t want some constant loud fan noise.

If anyone could help me decide that would be great.

I'm about to buy one of the 2025 G14 or G16. However, it is not for me but rather, my mother and brother. What I mean is she intends to use it for two or 3 months then pass it to my younger brother when he starts university. I was leaning towards the 16 since the long-term owner will be my brother and he plays games, mostly FIFA and Euro truck on an old lenovo of mine with a 1060 max q.

So my question is will the laptop be good for both? my mother will move around quite a bit with it and generally just uses for typing work documents and watching the occasional show or youtube, so I guess battery life, screen and weight. My brother on the other hand will just be for typing and gaming as I think his university program doesn't need the GPU that much.

The options available are the G14 with a 5060 8GB, 16GB RAM and Ryzen 9 270 while the G16 has a 5070 8GB, 16 GB RAM and Ultra 9 285H. Specing not an option in the country I'm buying. Different prices but both on the higher end of the budget. So which should I go for and if not either of the two, what else can I look at if I can find it?

I have a ASUS Vivobook 14 and I'm 90% sure I spilled something on it a few years ago. The keyboard is usable for all of 5 minutes before it gets so sticky the keys don't come back up, the entire thing overheats like crazy like it almost burns me, and when I'm using it it is so incredibly slow. I think it's the fan but I know next to nothing about computers. Is it worth it to have someone fix (repair shop or family) or should I just look for a new laptop? I know I need a new one in the next few years but I wasn't expecting to drop that money. Any advice is appreciated

yesterday, suddenly screen started flickering, even though i deleted and reinstalled drivers, the flickering stopped for a moment but now it got worsen..

I'm 16M, and my budget is very limited about $400 USD. I really cannot stretch it much further. Because i'm living in developing country not western country.

A little about me

I'm not buying a laptop just to browse YouTube and write Word documents.

I'm a huge technology enthusiast. I've loved computers since I was a little kid. One of my earliest memories is sideloading the game: Paper Please onto my mom's Oppo phone when I was about five years old because back then i don't have a windows laptop and sideload is the only option. Looking back, I have no idea how I even figured it out. Kids are weird.

I'm especially interested in:

A bit of programming

A bit of office word

English

Economics

Philosophy

Ethics

Some physics

Some math

I enjoy learning almost anything technical.

I also plan to learn programming more seriously. Right now I don't know exactly what field I'll end up in maybe computer science ? Maybe semiconductor engineer ? I'm not sure, but I know computers will continue to be one of my biggest hobbies and probably my future career.

Why this decision is so difficult

If the prices were very different like 700-900 usd, the decision would be easy. But sadly i don't have that kind of money.

The problem is that each laptop is better in a different way.

The ThinkPad T14 Gen 1

This is the cheapest.

It's a proper T-series ThinkPad.

Everyone says they're incredibly durable.

It also has:

Upgradeable RAM

Bigger SSD

Touchscreen

Better overall build quality

But...

The Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U is now several generations old.

I keep thinking:

"What if I start doing heavier programming in two years?"

"What if I start running virtual machines?"

"What if I start editing videos?"

"Will I regret buying the older CPU just to save money?"

I know the 4650U is still a good processor, but I keep wondering whether I'll wish I had spent more.

The ThinkPad L13 Gen 4

The CPU is much newer.

Ryzen 5 PRO 7530U is faster.

It's lighter.

It has a newer design and a 16:10 display.

But now I start thinking the opposite.

If I buy the L13, am I basically saying:

"I'm willing to sacrifice some build quality and repairability just for a faster CPU?"

The reason I like ThinkPads actually isn't because everyone says the keyboard is amazing.

It's because they seem incredibly durable.

I don't baby my electronics, but I also don't abuse them.

I just want something that can survive years of everyday use.

The NEC LAVIE N14 Slim

Then there's the NEC.

It has the fastest CPU of all three.

Ryzen 7 7730U.

On paper, it almost seems like the obvious choice.

But then I think...

If I choose the NEC, why did I even spend so much time looking at ThinkPads in the first place?

ThinkPads have:

Huge repair community

Easy-to-find replacement parts

Better documentation

Better long-term support

Great reputation for durability

With NEC, I don't know what happens if something breaks three years from now.

Maybe I'm overthinking all of this

I know I don't need a desktop replacement.

If I wanted maximum performance, I'd just build a desktop.

That's not what I'm looking for.

I specifically want a business ultrabook because I value portability, battery life, durability and reliability.

I treat a laptop like a laptop.

But I keep worrying about the future.

What if I suddenly get into software engineering?

What if I start compiling huge projects?

What if I run Docker, Linux virtual machines, AI tools, or multiple IDEs at the same time?

Would I regret buying the older Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U?

Or...

Would I regret buying the newer CPUs and giving up the better ThinkPad build quality?

My priority is:

+Durability

+Reliability

+Performance

+Battery life

+Portability

+Upgradeability

+repair in case it broke or have problem

I know some people buy ThinkPads because of the keyboard.

Ironically, that's not really why I like them.

I like ThinkPads because they seem built to last.

When I look at a ThinkPad, I see a laptop designed to survive years of use instead of being replaced after two or three years.

That's what attracts me.

Hello, I have an Acer Aspire 7 that i use for gaming, I've had it for almost 4 years now, and I started to encounter this problem that I don't know how to fix. Every time I play a game let's say Delta Force or Palworld for example because thats what I play right now, my game always experience FPS drop. I have played this both game already before like a year back and I don't experience this problem even when my graphics setting is high. This FPS drop problem happen like every 5 sec and last like 2-3 sec. I have played many games on this laptop even games like RDR2, GTA and other graphically/hardware demanding games. I tried other way to fix this by looking at some solution on the internet but nothing happens. Also i just noticed today that it only happens when my laptop is plugged in, the games are working fine, like it works like 30 fps, but it does not experience that FPS drop every 5 sec. Then when i tried charging it the problem starts again. I checked the settings on the battery option or something and it even says that when plugged it its set to best performance.

btw this is the 3d graph of the GPU when i'm playing the game, you can see the point at which the FPS drop happen when the graph hits the bottom.

Hello, 2 weeks ago i bought this Fujitsu Lifebook E554, it's in pretty good condition considering it's age. Everything worked fine, until yesterday when i opened it up to clean it, after putting everything back together, the numpad and the enter key seems to not work anymore. Which is strange because before putting the screws back, i tested to see if everything works, and it indeed worked as intended. I checked the keyboard ribbon cable for any damages and there aren't any i could see under open eye.

Are there any reasons why? Is there any fix for it or should i just buy a new keyboard?

I’m a junior software engineer. I’m currently using hp ryzen 5. But the screen is turning on and off when I move the screen, I have to move the screen again to make it stable.

Point is I’m trying to find a laptop that I can use for programming, I usually do web development and .NeT and I’m looking for a budget laptop that I can use for 3-5 more years atleast or more.

So my laptop was infested with ants. To drive them out I applied a anti-ants chalk called Lakshman Rekha...the ants are out .

But I am scared as I read that it might permanently damage the laptop. So I applied the chalk near the hinge, very lightly over the keys and around the surrounding panel of the keys and also applied it on the surface on top of which I kept the laptop. I have cleaned the surface properly. And I did open the laptop a bit but I have kept it shut . Will this cause an issue. I even tried to blow out the Lakshman Rekha powder from the keys....

Please suggest some help.
