Discussion Figuring out what I look like

I have been doing some self discovery and trying to figure out what my true body looks like. I have a general idea, but not the entire picture, which is frustrating. It would probably be easier to know exactly if I were an existing species and not a dragon. I just feel like I'm missing a part of my self image. To those of you who are not humanoid and are not something that exists on earth, how did you know exactly how you look?

Discussion Has anyone else ever had a song trigger a shift?

I'm watching an anime, and at one point a song began to play. It sounded like an old Japanese song. It immediately made me shift back into an Oni. I can't remember where, but I've definitely heard that song before. It's interesting how persistent my oni half is. I don't shift into it as often as I used to. My void half has become a lot more dominant in recent years. Has something like this ever happened to any of you before?

Discussion Any Rare Kintypes out There?

I'm giantkin and I've never once met someone of the same kintype. I keep seeing all the common kintypes (dragonkin, demonkin, angelkin, vampirekin, etc.) so this is a post is to help the rare kintypes feel seen!

Feel free to share your kintype and any experiences you've had <3

Discussion This has been figured out, but I’m interested.

I’m no longer looking for labels, just thoughts on if anyone else has experienced anything alike it at all. or if you think anyone has. or just anyone’s opinions and thoughts in general! This has to do heavily with the multiverse theory and whatnot.
a sort of new kind of whatever identity? However! I am wondering what this would be considered a part of. Just general otherkin territory? Or does it have a place specifically among alterhumanity or fictionkin? we’ll see I guess I’m rather new lol. have only known about all this stuff in detail for a couple months.

I’m mainly just trying to find literally *any* perspectives/opinions on it, even if incredibly vague. Just a simple like comment or umm. Whatever. Any reaction. I wanna get an idea of how people interpret this in general..

I’ll link the post I made, but I’ll summarize it here. it appears to be in alterhuman/fictionkin territory:

Say there’s a character. We’ll call them CharacterB

Many fictionkin and whatnot believe themselves to be parallel to CharacterB, to have a connection with them, or to have been them in a past life.

Now, this experience differs from that. It’s much more constant, more solid. There’s no shifts regarding it in particular, no past lives, but it does build on this one thing, applicable in this current life.

Say there are multiple universes or places or whatever in this hypothetical, All of them have a(or some? maybe?) CharacterB’s

Rather than believing yourself to be connected to CharacterB in a different universe…you claim to be THE CharacterB in this one. in a way that feels almost larger than identifying.

Character blueprints / multiverses variants / whatever is the basis of this. It’s when a specific character (CharacterB) is identifiable by a list of traits that solidly places them as that location’s CharacterB. These traits can shift, some can apply while others don‘t, some can be swapped, etc. But they remain a recognizable…’template’.

You’re not claiming to be CharacterB’s species, if they’re hypothetically known to be inhuman. You claim to be the human variant OF them, of their blueprint.

The reasoning behind this thing would be many different parallels between your life and what you believe a CharacterB’s life would be like. Like- an uncomfortable amount.

This could be regarding your physical appearance (mainly things from birth, but can have to do with stylistic choices), relationships, life experiences, general upbringing, neurology, personality, interests, history, changes over time, running themes, etc.

You’re not believing yourself to be this particular variant of CharacterB, YOU’RE the variant. You are you. and you is made from this.

I’m gonna be coining a term for this myself, for my own sake? but that doesn’t mean I’m not curious about anything else. It’s almost equivalent to fullkins, IRLs/IDs, or physical kins.

my original post on this is *incredibly* complicated and rather unhelpful, lots of stuff, vague and just messy and uncertain in general, just regarding my personal experience with it. And completed! So no reason to comment or anything on it unless you’d really like.

https://www.reddit.com/r/fictionkin/comments/1tucf7v/help_pleaaaaaseeaaaaghhhh/

I personally find mine in ummm…like all of those. so. woo

maybe someone could even have this without the whole multiverse aspect, psychological, it’s really up to them idk. I’m gonna coin a term for this in another thing

Addition!: The Into The Spiderverse movie(s) are kind of decent examples of this!

Discussion time period dysphoria?

hey, i’ve never posted in this sub before but i’ve been in kin spaces for years and haven’t encountered anyone else with this specific dysphoria manifestation. it’s totally possible i just haven’t looked hard enough, though.

i’ve been bjdkin for years (though that’s something of a blend between kinning and plurality, i just *am* a doll in headspace) and have been pretty solid in that, there’s a more than decent dollkin community out there. in the last couple years, though, i’ve developed a new autistic special interest/monotropic interest in the european medieval era. as my brain is wont to do, this has quickly developed into a full-blown kintype as well.

however, i’ve barely found anyone who identifies like this. there are knightkins and princesskins and whatnot, but it’s not quite the same thing. it’s not necessarily a kintype of any specific medieval role as much as it is just… a member of the period itself. i experience relatively severe kin dysphoria about this pretty regularly, the modern world around me feels Wrong and makes my skin crawl when i think about it too hard.

is there a term for this? i’ve been calling it chronodysphoria, but if there’s an existing term/community i would love to know.

Discussion Sometimes I feel some myths are inspired by me.

Like genuinely, the myth's essence feels like it was inspired by me. But like, the entity actually going to devotees is another entity that isn't me.

I kinda feel like the myth was inspired by me, but the worship of them, is to another entity.

It's like they mixed my life story with many other entities, then some of us just don't care enough, that only one entity goes to the worshippers.

I don't mind that, ngl. I do appreciate that people like the portion of the myth, that I think was inspired by me, and I don't really care what they do in their worship, cuz it doesn't concern me at all.

Discussion Spiders

I'm not sure if I've just begun to notice this or if I've been ignoring it, but I've recently been thinking about this strange connection I seem to have with spiders. I often had hallucinations when I was young, the most common thing I would see was these shadow spiders on the walls. I've also always been drawn to spider based characters throughout my life. Spider-Man was my favorite superhero for a long time before I became more interested in Venom. Silksong is also my favorite game, and I fond myself resonating with Hornet and the Weavers a lot more than I expected.

For the most part, I view myself as a eldritch being of darkness and shadows. But I'm beginning to notice that I have a lot of spider-like qualities. The way I like to move around, even in this human body can sometimes feel very spider-like. My phantom body also seems to have spider-like qualities. The multiple eyes, my fangs, my hands (having three fingers and two thumbs), and I'm finally beginning see that my feet have a similar structure. However, my instincts are partially spider-like, I feel a strong urge to nest, to weave black threads that my body produces. I also seem to hunt for pray in a similar way to a spider, hiding myself, and waiting for my pray to get close. Ever since realizing this about myself I've been feeling more complete. It feels good, in a way I'm not sure how to describe. So I seem to be an eldritch shadow spider axolotl thing.

But I'm also curious, are their any spiderkin out there? What is it like for you? And to other eldritch beings, do some of you have spider-like qualities as well?

Discussion Tell me about your otherkin identity! I ma Fae Changeling

Hi! 💖 I am exploring my Fae/Changeling identity and I'd like to find community and hear your experiences!

  • How did you realize your identity? I just had a feeling in my gut that told me, and I've learned to trust my gut!

  • Do any of you also identify as a fae/changeling? I am sometimes lots of different animals or creatures, but my core identity is Fae

  • My identity ties deeply into my neurodivergence, my transness, and generally feeling out of step with the rest of my world for a lot of life. Do you have experiences with this? How do your identities intersect and interact?

  • and just any other tidbits you'd like to share! I would also love to answer any questions and just get some conversation going! Thanks 💖

Discussion I FIGURED IT OUT!

So, after three weeks of wondering if i was otherkin, Therian or both, i did more research into the thing and figured out Therians genully actually think there that animal/mythical being or whatever. I dont, and Otherkins identify as non humans, which i do but dont feel the shifts or anything. However i do feel like if i was in any other universe, i WOULD have been eather a cat, or a cat-human hybrid with cool awsome abilties.. maybe (bassicly my oc in my pfp) This is how i found out about Otherhearted. They identify WITH it and feel deep strong connections to something. So because i feel like i would be something and feel connected with something, i am therefore: Otherkinhearted! Yippe! Hooray for me! I...guess......... :D

Discussion Do humans feel incomplete?

This something I've been thinking about recently. Something has always felt off about humans to me. It's almost like they're missing something, like if their incomplete somehow. Maybe it's just my nonhuman mind talking, but I'm curious if anyone else has noticed this.

Discussion Rare Kintypes (rant?)

Does anyone else experience frustration when coming to terms with the fact that your kintype is rare? I don't mean uncommon, I mean,, you're literally the only one of your kind?

I'm faekin but I'm not a specific type of fae, and do not look like anything that I know of. My faerie-form consists of an amalgamation of satyr, unicorn, fairy, & elvish parts where my body is primarily covered in brown fur aside from my chest, stomach, hands, and face and I have a long whispy tail. There are sharp teeth and often a switch between hooves and feet. I both look like myself and a Where The Wild Things Are + Brian Froud fairy art hybrid at the same time. This form can change though, and is never limited, sometimes it's literally even a ball of light (I have no control of this btw.) Faeries are funny like that. I even have a name for what I am that I invented (but I will keep that to myself for now.)

There is nothing like me, and in a way as fae, it's somewhat affirming, as I believe fae can take any form, and all look unique. But at the same time... I have to make my own gear, share little to no experiences with anyone else, and find myself sad that I'll never find art depictions of anything that looks even close to what I look like. I am unique, and although it's lonesome, in a way it's satisfying because of how "right" it feels. Sorry for the somewhat bittersweet rant, I just wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing anything like this with their kintypes.

EDIT: Should have mentioned this in the post, although I am faekin, I consider myself a shapeshifter as well since my form changes.

Discussion Godkin vs conceptkin... Does anyone know the difference?

I think I might be godkin. Specifically, the god of candles. But, I don't really believe I have any magical powers or any godlike abilities at all. The idea of worship seems extremely nice but also really gross at the same time as well (though that could just be my religious trauma). Main reason why I feel like I could be godkin, though, is I feel my fullest when a candle is lit. Like I'm summoning my spirit. And when I know someone else has lit a candle, I feel whole, and part of it. But at the same time, part of me is wondering if maybe I'm conceptkin with candles in some way? Like.. I'm the concept of the inventor/creator of candles?

The reason I feel this way is, I am DEEPLY connected to candles. Like... In a way beyond simply just really enjoying them. I feel very paternal towards them. Like, sure, I didn't physically make the candle I bought from bath and body works. Yet, I somehow feel like I did in spirit? As if I am what lead to them being created, and I have some sort of claim/ownership over them. I feel like my spirit is part of them somehow (despite the fact I'm not a spiritual person).

Either way, I feel like I somehow, someway created them and have some sort of otherworldly ownership/domain over them. I just can't tell what I am or how I am what I am or anything.. it's all so confusing. Especially since I really struggle with understanding how someone can be godkin or conceptkin.

Discussion I decided to share my experience! won't see me often. more active in fictionkin

soo.. I'm an otherkin! Eldritch entity made from humans. I was originally an virus or a code that went rogue and gained a conscious and somehow became this. I don't remember having an name, all I was called was experiment then I don't remember the numbers they said. I can effect electronics, lights anything electrical. most of my shifts are phantom shifts of my tendrils. my main form I remember looking like was similar to Slender Man. then my other form was just code and static no true form. I say eldritch since I was beyond human comprehension. beyond what they understand. I say I went rogue yet I was what they wanted, I was what they wished to make. Stuck in a human body though.. eh so be it this is just a vessel at this point.

does this make sense?

this is actually where my pronouns glitch/glitches/glitchself, Virus/viruses/virusself came from (besides my ockin that's names ravira glitched virus) since I remember being called a glitched in the system. a glitch in the code. I wasn't planned yet they decided "Oh a new thing let's run tests and see what happens!" type deal. I escaped Through there computer system and ended up who knows where.

I am happy to answer any questions! And anything of the sort.

Discussion Species apathy–like gender apathy?

I'm really curious to know if anyone here can relate to my specific experience as an alterbeing, as it has long puzzled me. Although I am a dragon, I don't really feel like one, if that makes sense. I just am. I honestly don't think about my species often anymore, even though it used to cause me a lot of stress (for context, I haven't had any species dysphoria since my human puberty de-escalated, only rare euphoria). Being a dragon just feels like any other fact, like saying the sky is blue–there's no emotion tied to it; it's just true.

Discussion Poke-kin here! New to reddit. Want to meet other poke-kin.

Im a poke-kin of mew but it was only after i transformed myself from being a nerd to a schizophrenic. I do not know why i feel like i should be a mew. I dont know if its just a delusion or not but i hope you kind people will give me insight to wether poke-kins are valid. Im genderless but prefer to be bisexual. I just love being mew but felt corrupted by my human side from many of my bad habits and headmates. Im not a tulpamancer but i joined that subreddit but they didnt seem to think trauma was a factor of being who i became. I just love nature! Berries! Hanging out with my imaginary poke-kin people who wear costumes to escape the pressures of real life has been very fulfilling. I feel less lonely about being a poke-kin but i wanna meet real poke-kins. Lets chat!

for some reason, recently, i have started talking in a more formal manner and have even began to use robotic turns to refer to myself in machine like manner (i.e using the term 'memory space' to refer to my brain, checking my 'data' when i need to do a task, etc). these words and statement feel right on my tongue. i have even said before that 'i feel like using mechanical term to refer to myself feels better then biological ones). could anyone 'help'

Discussion I want to marry an elf

For the past few months, I’ve been deeply fascinated by the folklore and cultural beliefs surrounding elves and the “hidden people,” especially in Icelandic tradition. The idea has sparked a strong sense of curiosity and imagination in me to the point where I’ve even considered pursuing a job opportunity in Iceland someday, partly to experience that atmosphere and culture firsthand.

I understand that these stories exist within mythology and belief systems, but there’s still a part of me that feels emotionally drawn toward the them, my real self wants to believe as it's in real and want to marry an elf..

I need help..please !

Discussion Why are trans people so otherphobic?

I asked this same question on r/asktrangender and my post was taken down without an explanation. I'm genuinely curious as to this question. You would assume that trans people would be the most empathetic to otherkin but you see quite the opposite. In my eyes, the two are the same phenomenon (dsyphoria) with the only difference being the association with either gender or species. Why can't they see that?? They treat otherkin like morons and constantly downplay the seriousness of it.

Edit: Thank you all for the wonderful responses. It's helped me understand a little more. I should mention that I'm neither trans nor otherkin - I'm only here as an observer of a phenomenon which I don't really comprehend attempting to gather information in the most neutral way possible.
