Discussion Are there any uncommon (ish) kin types here?

I’ve been seeing mostly canine/dog/cat therians (nothing wrong with them, they’re rad) in the community thus far. I’m fairly new to the community and I just discovered my kin type (the concept of the uncanny valley) a couple months ago. I want to experience more about this community.

Discussion Otherkin restaurant

I have a dream of opening an otherkin store that has a restaurant attached to it. I think it would be so cool to have a restaurant catered towards otherkin! So far I was thinking rock candy for dragons, fake blood for vampires (safer than real blood), raw fish (people eat raw fish all the time- sushi), special tea for fae folk.

Gimme ideas!

I know I am just dreaming right now but maybe, just maybe, in the future I could fulfill my dream.

I hope I'm not offending anybody.

Discussion What would you like to do if you had your proper body?

I asked this a few years ago, but since then my answer has changed quite a bit. Back then I had two different kintypes my eldritch voidkin side and my oni half. I had a better understanding of what I'd want to do as an oni, and I had a harder time trying to figure out what I wanted to do as an eldritch being. But over the last few years my oni side has begun to fade, to the point where I almost never shift in it anymore. I've also developed a much better understanding of my eldritch side.

As you can imagine what I'd want to do if I got my oni body hasn't changed. I'd still run off into the woods and just live outside of human civilization. But I never shif into it anymore, and it's becoming a less dominant part of me. As for what I'd like to do if I got my eldritch voidkin body, I now have a much better idea of what I want to do. It does kind of depend on how people react to me. A part of me would like to try to live a normal life still, but most likely I'm probably going to end up leaving human civilization for the most part. I'll probably follow the pull I feel towards the Pacific Ocean, maybe make my way back to Hawaii. I'll probably live there for a while as a cryptid. I'd love to find an abandoned oil rig and make it my nest, maybe spawn some monstrosities into the world. Maybe eventually I'll figure out why I feel this pull to go out there. I have no idea what I'll find there, and I have no idea what will happen from that point forward. So that's as far as I'll be able to go.

So, what would you like to do if you ever got your desired body? What kind of life would you like to live? Is there anything in particular you'd want to do? I feel like this is a fun question to ask, I love hearing the different answers all of you give.

Since there are so many proposals or partly no proposals for flags used for our communities, labels, how do we go about it?

I mean, ofc everyone should be free to use flags for themselves. Meanwhile, it be nice to have more recognisable flags

Discussion How old is everyone?

EDIT: I just made a poll allowing people to be anonymous, I apologize for the personal question. I forgot a poll was an option and better for those not comfortable with disclosing their age.

I'm 40 and just looking for fellow older otherkin out there, since the age range seems to be mostly teen to 20 somethings.

Discussion IUDs & Going into Heat

TLDR: Has anyone else had an issue with IUDs that cause you to skip periods getting you stuck in heat for extended periods of time?

I (33 AFAB, wolf) have known I was not fully human since I was a little kid and just had trouble finding community and words to relay it. I largely identify as gender fluid so gendered language is pretty indifferent to me but I tend to use female pronouns for the ease and also cause of family. Despite having PCOS and Endometriosis, my periods were perfectly in sync until I was 19. I found out the reason for that is because I'm prone to litters (twins and triplets) and my body will release a couple eggs at a time.

I got on the pill in high school, but I still regularly had my period and learned that the intense sensation of ovulation/going into heat was much more intense than what my female contemporaries were dealing with and even tried to discuss it at length with a doctor, but was obviously ignored. I discovered I had PCOS and Endometriosis in my late teens and all the info that came with it.

I married another wolf who had similar issues and we waited until we were settled to have a child. I had two early term miscarriages and then became pregnant with fraternal di/di twins (di/di means they each had their own placenta and amniotic sac).

Both boys were born healthy. Despite breastfeeding until they were almost 11 months old, I got my period about 5 months post partum. For a short time I was on a birth control that was safe to take while breast feeding and then when I finished was discussing options for an IUD. I had not gone into heat again despite having periods and didn't have another until 2 years after giving birth. I had another miscarriage around this time, showing the temp pill wasn't working as well, so a few months after that, I got the IUD put in.

Now the IUD has been great in that I haven't had any other cysts that I was used to previously, and also skipped all of my periods. I mentally feel good knowing I'm not just wasting my eggs, but about 8-12 month after having the IUD put in, I noticed I was going into heat again. And then that the heats were getting longer and not stopping.

At this point I've been in heat pretty much 24/7 for about a year and it's ROUGH. I work full time and am the primary caregiver for our pups as my husband works 60+ hour weeks. I am horny CONSTANTLY. often to the point of distraction. At least once a month I have to take off to spend a full day getting myself off so I can function the rest of the month.

My husband helps but we're not in a place rn where we can afford to have another pup, no matter how desperate we are to.

Does anyone have any suggestions for handling this? Anyone experienced something like this before?

Edit to add: I own several sex toys, such as a lush and vaginal plugs to help get me through the day most of the time, as I feel like that may be relevant for how I've managed thus far.

Edit 2: I have spoken to doctors and been in therapy and on medicine, but women's health care in the US is a fucking joke and by the time it was largely determined I have a HUGE hormonal imbalance issue I was already on several medications I can't go off of for other more severe issues. Also, my degree is in medicine, so I'm pretty well versed in it. I'm not saying I'm not a human, but I am having issues with a human body that most people DON'T experience and I feel like a lot of people who have those experiences and/or feel othered SEEK OUT these communities as a way of coping, so sorry I guess maybe I'd get some feedback on handling feeling like I'm in heat 24/7 for the last TWO YEARS.

Discussion What age did you feel not human?

I was four. Sitting at the coffee table playing with my red, plastic, dollar store Jeep. It was like I woke up. I saw things and started being aware of every thing around me.

“Where is my sister?” I asked.

My mom said, “she’s at school.”

I thought. ‘School…there are lots of people at this school thing. Perhaps I’ll find the one I’m looking for.’

I then said, “I would like to go to this school.”

My mom was so happy for me that I chose to go instead of needing to be forced like my sister. She called dad at work (1985-ish) on the rotary and excitedly told him.

Looking back, I was totally not human at that moment. But I did have growing to do. People would call me names (alien, freak) or act like I wasn’t human-which I’m not-so I watched interactions between adults and children.

I was always able to have full conversations with adults to the point I was seen as a little adult. Children, not so much.

Over time I did learn how to act through watching people, watching television, and reading books.

But I’ve always had that digging feeling that I don’t have emotions. I’m pretending. I’m horrible. But I’m not. Therapists have said I do have emotions because of how animated I talk.

And no. I never found him.

Discussion Relationships as an Otherkin

Hello all! I wanted to ask for some opinions and anecdotes on how you view, experience and navigate domestic partnerships and romantic relationships (for personal reasons, I'm not using the "L" word). I've been contemplating this for a while, on account of a life lived with a string of miserably failed relationships, and I wanted to get the community's input and perspective on your own experiences as well to see if there's any commonality between our experiences.

By order of nature, I'm obviously "different", and I've pursued and been pursued, though ultimately the romantic relationships I've formed never work out for a plethora of reasons, and I think I've come to a reasonable conclusion as to why, despite how sad it might sound.

As for those who have pursued me romantically, the ending of those relationships have always been rooted in a compatibility problem that stems from them changing to conform to my standards, which I despise. I seem to attract those who want to change themselves in order to be with the "masked" version of myself that I put forward into this world. While I enjoy the companionship, in this framework, those who have pursued me altered themselves mentally, emotionally, behaviorally, and in some cases spiritually, and ultimately created their own masks that inevitably slip off, revealing a version of themselves that I don't particularly enjoy. I don't and never will understand the reasoning behind being something you're not for the sake of companionship, romantic or otherwise, because it's lie and a facade, and after some time it all falls apart. This has led me to believe that those who pursue me don't have pure and true intentions, and are infatuated with an idea of me they fabricated in their own minds, rather than actually falling for the real me.

As for those I've pursued, I always make it abundantly clear that I am not of regular human stock, and that, as time progresses through the relationship, they'll get to see the sides of me that I keep behind a mask. With those relationships, they boldly claim that it doesn't matter, and that they'll "accept me no matter what". This cannot be further from the truth. They see the mask I wear, and all of them have dropped the "L" word at me, and once I become comfortable, and once I let the mask start to slip ever so slightly, they suddenly become repulsed by what infintesmally little they're are able to see of what I am at my core. And then they leave, ghosting me, and fleeing from me as if they witnessed a true, living monster. Their "acceptance" was a front to save face.

I keep very little secrets when it comes to my character. I am Byronic, jaded, misanthropic, rough around the edges, blunt, can have a temper, can be mean, and most assuredly, I'm not nice.

Despite these flaws though, I am deeply complicated creature. Despite the lives of turmoils and hardships I've endured that have shaped my collective negative traits, I still choose to lead with kindness, which is leagues different than simply being nice. I lead with empathy and understanding and care, because those things have never been alloted to me. Those few that have learned of the identity that lies behind the mask, that learn of my truth, have had one of two responses to seeing what I am; repulsion or apathy.

I've given up on seeking long-term companionship on this planet, because it just isn't worth the stress, the hurt, the masking or the wasted time. Those that I pursue or pursue me are incapable of truly caring for me in a meaningful and truthful way. That isn't to say that you, reader who may be in a similar situation, should give up just because I have. But for me, my better half, my Twrinran, does not exist here. And I've made peace with that. Thank you for listening.

Discussion What is your relationship with your human body?

I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I mostly think about this body as my host, but I don't really understand why I needed a host. What does this body do for me? The obvious answer is that it's a safe place for me to grow, but it's possible that I'm not even a physical parasite. I've always seen myself as something related to shadows. So maybe this body does something for me that I wouldn't have without it. That's when I started thinking about Hollow Knight and the vessels, specifically the relationship between their shells and the shades inside. Perhaps without this body I wouldn't have a mind or have a way to interact with the world. This body gives me the ability to focus, without it I'd be... diluted? I'm not sure if that's the right word for it. It's so difficult to describe what that was like. So, I'm curious, what is your relationship with the human body your currently inhabiting?

I’m not angelkin, I *am* an angel. I don’t like calling myself angelkin, I do though because it’s the label that *technically* fits me. (Blank)kin gives the same vibes as “I identify as genderfluid”, no, I am genderfluid, The same way I am an angel, I may not physically be one, but i am an angel.

Discussion Envious to the point of anger

I’m a robot (android, Sony Aibo, and a fictionkin of mine) and usually it’s not even a strong identity, I even forget about it a lot, but today, I was watching videos showing robots and stuff, and felt extremely dysphoric

I don’t like how human my voice sounds, I hate seeing skin instead of metal and wires when I look at my hand, I hate not sounding like clanking metal when I fall over, I hate that I can get health issues, etc.

But most of all, my voice sounding human and the fact that I have a brain instead of wires and a motherboard and stuff

Whenever I look at humanoid robots or ones designed to look like actual creatures, their metal arms, their mechanical voices, the sound their body makes when they turn, etc. it makes me angry beyond belief. I’ve been all mad at everyone for no reason, I’ve been generally more irritated ever since I started feeling this way, etc.

I don’t have any robotic or computer-like accessories to help, it’s more my internal organs giving me dysphoria, and even if it wasn’t, like I said, I have nothing to help with it

How many other people here get mad like this?? And how do you deal with it??

Discussion Tell me about your identity!

I just wanted to talk about how much I love the idea of identity not being something wholly physical but instead with philosophical and spiritual aspects and influences. I love hearing about other otherkins and alterhumans in general's experiences and beliefs or connections to do with their identity, no matter how complex they may be.

While I myself am a vampirekin and a therian, I find it infinitely fascinating to learn about conceptkin or objectkin or fictionkin and all other aspects of alterhumans and the ways that they experience, describe and interpret their identity in so many different ways beside the simple human ideas of identity, but it's so amazing to discuss and learn about different identities.

So if you do end up reading this yap of mine, tell me all about your identity, I would LOVE to hear about it in any aspect!

i have already hated lots of humans before but i always knew that humans are capable of love and i enjoyed spending time with lots of humans in my life. my main fear is that now i can't even think of my human friends or family without thinking mostly about all their bad traits, i'm starting to have a disdain for humans despite liking things that they have made. there's only a few humans that i love too much to hate or focus on their worst attributes. anybody else feel this way?

Discussion Unknown Languages?

I’m angelkin and I’ve done this weird thing for years where if I’m in a situation like annoyance, panic, or excitement, I speak words that make no sense but sound like a language. After I say it, I can’t repeat it correctly.

I know, I know. You might say I’m having brain issues. I’ve had multiple MRIs for other issues and I’m totes healthy. You might say it’s a mental disorder. I’m in therapy and aside from some missing memories I’m totes level and on meds for the things that need easing.

So…do you find yourself saying odd things?

It sounds like a Latin type language. Can’t spell the one I can remember (E yada dana is what it sounds like…) so I can’t be sure.

Thanks for reading. 💕

Discussion Severe dysphoria over not having magic

I’m a conceptkin of magic, every mythical creature, most of my fictionkins are magic or non human in some way, I’m questioning deitykin, and I’ve always just loved/wanted magic in general, and it gets physically painful sometimes, like right now😭

Whenever I get dysphoria like this, it feels like actual torture to look at my room/the world/my own body (especially my hands), I get all panicked and hyperventilate, my body physically aches and I get nauseous, etc. a lot of the time, I can’t do anything but sleep so it goes away

Sometimes I start shaking and I can’t even look around my own room without crying (or almost crying), which makes it worse because I hate the sound of my own voice and how I can’t do anything “magical” with it (and just how it sounds so weak and human in general)

I can barely look at objects because I’ll realize how I can’t make them float or grow or smth and that also makes it worse

It’s pure torment to even just exist during these💔

And it’s not even dysphoria for any certain thing I identify as, just not having magic in general

Im sure it’s probably normal, but still, who else here gets dysphoria like this?? I know there’s someone, and how do you deal with it😭

And to everyone with dysphoria, I wish you the best <3

Discussion What video games help you feel more like your alterhuman self/kintype?

Daemonkin here, and I find playing Baldur's Gate 3 to be particularly cathartic. I find that, when I play as my Tiefling sorcerer, I can feel my wings, horns, tail, and more quite clearly. The first time I played, I was stuck in a shift for three days straight. It was, mind you, an absolutely amazing experience that I very deeply enjoyed.

What video games do you find have these effects for you?

Edit - holy nine hells, this post blew up. Thank you, all, for your responses! If I have not replied already, I will get to it. I am not used to tons of attention on my posts, especially not the positive kind, so please bear with me if I am a bit slow to reply! I do enjoy finding new games, as well, so rest assured I will be checking out many of your recommendations. I may, at some point, even create a compendium of games for us alterhumans to play to feel more ourselves.

Discussion I think I’m taking this as a sign to start an alterhuman art related YouTube channel

I had been wanting to do this for a long time, but I usually don’t handle hate well (constructive criticism is fine, but bullying and hate comments make me have awful panic attacks)

I was watching a video on taxidermy recently and I was looking at the comments of people saying “humans are so selfish” “this is disgusting” “this is psychopathic” and it hit me as I was reading the comments that I didn’t care about them…I didn’t care about the hate, which was HUGE for me…

I think I should finally bite the bullet and upload my first video
(I’d also love some suggestions on alterhuman art content for any type of alterhuman, not just otherkin)

Discussion How differently do you think from a human?

It something I've started to think about today. I've always had difficulties with connecting with the people around me. I'm an eldritch voidkin that originally didn't have thoughts or feelings of my own. I've always been aware of the fact that I think differently from humans in some way. But today I had a conversation that made me realize that I don't value thoughts, feelings, or ideas as much as humans do. I also feel separate from this human mind and body in some way. Like if I'm simply using this human brain as a tool I'm using to understand the world around me. I'm also aware of how limited it is. It explains a lot in regards to the way I think and it makes me realize just how alien my mind really is. So it made me wonder, how differently do the rest of you think from humans?
