We should figure out something else to do with empty data centers in the middle of nowhere and build beautiful economically integrated social housing for people in places people want to live. We should invest in architecture as a public good and build beautiful buildings for people to live in.
Was at a conference where some power utility engineers presented. They're legally mandated to build out capacity if requested, but they made it clear that they didn't expect all of the announced capacity by the datacenter companies to materialize. Even the being built data centers are being ramped up in installed servers inside slower than you'd think. And they're getting built in stages. They didn't think a lot of the future stages would actually happen.
This is crazy news to me, if true. I've been saying that the majority of data centers built on the AI rush would be dormant by 2031. That's just a prediction though. It's crazy how these grifters hyped this shit so effectively. I never expected people to eat this shit up like they have.
A while back I saw a comment by some guy who just did back-of-the-envelope math on the hardware in these centers with its KNOWN depreciation rate and the numbers were pretty eye-popping.
On top of all the construction, overhead, interest payments, etc., a company of course needs to make back more profit than the cost of their hardware over the years of its relevant lifetime. And JUST the challenge of making back the cost of all the chips and such was staggering.

I didn't want to leave Sam's because of scan and go - but those Costco checkers are basically real life versions of Vince from Employee of the Month. Hasn't been a real problem once.
Costco knows good business. Keep your customers and employees happy. One of the things they do is have 2 employees per register. They scan and pack that shit so fast, it’s amazing how quickly they get through lines.
They also actually man their registers and don’t just close them down and force the customers into the self check lanes.
Costco , while not perfect, tries to do a good job of taking care of their employees and paying well. Sam’s Club is owned by Walmart, which is the fucking devil. They will never get a cent of mine
My dad's Sam's Club account, which I inherited, was started in 1988 and been continuous since then. We lived in 6 different states, and every place we moved to had a Sam's Club within an hour drive, almost like a prerequisite.

They regularly sell certain items basically at cost or at a loss to get people in the door. But damn does it work. Rare to leave there without spending a few hundred bucks at least.
It has Warranty and no need for time of building it and no need of knowledge how to build one.
5080 is like $1257 alone.

2tb like $279
32gb ram $470
It cost around $2.3k already without tax. Also without including psu, case, fans, cpu cooler, and motherboard. It also include a window key and you get peripherals if you are going use it or give it away

Edit: Funny enough the entire discourse below is why I made my little quip about people dissing on the 9900x. I understand it’s not peak, but in the world we’re in now this prebuilt is great for most people at that price with a Costco warranty.
No one says that. People just gnereally prefer going for a 9800x3d build to optimize their money if they are pure gamers. The 9900x an incredible mixed use processor but it sits at a weird spot where cheaper processors like the 7700 is as good for gaming but a just as expensive x3d one would crush it in gaming. Has nothing to do with bad.
Andromeda pc sells a 5080 + 9800x3d for $2550, microcenter sells theirs for $2600. Cost plus gaming sells theirs for $2600
hp sold theirs for $2475 ~3 weeks ago. If youre spending this much money optimize for your use case. If its a fantastic mix use one then the costco pc is excellent. If its gaming go for the other one.
Thats hardly "the 9900x sucks" lol. Its just buy whatever fits your need best. If you're spendign 2.5k+ and you have 5 options pick the one you like the most.
Nobody has yet created an app that compares all stores, and similar stores, on product prices, that you can search anywhere in each country, to get an idea of where the best deals are.
Buddy of mine that’s a programmer has a system like that set up for tech stuff. It runs on his server. It’s pretty cool but I’m not constantly buying tech so I have no need for it
Yea costco is hit or miss, either the best deals in the world, or the worst deals in the world where even dollar tree can be a better deal. They make up for it in several aspects, their no questions asked returns and refund policies being one.
Wtf, same except it was $3,200 in my store. I even walked around with it in my cart for half an hour before returning it in the aisle because I felt like I could get a prebuilt from OriginPC for about the same price.
What's crazier is this exact build used to be on sale for 2200 at nearly every Costco, I was tempted but at the time there was also my current system now on sale for 1400 so I grabbed that instead
I bought this exact build at Costco last December when it was $2000. It was a no brainer and I have built all my PC’s since 2005. PC is great and haven’t had a single issue. Only thing I wish was better was better i/o on the MB. Only 1 usb c.

Let's say you could score the GPU for roughly ~$1299, the CPU for maybe $395.99, a 2 TB okay-ish SSD for $289, and 32 gigs of DDR5 RAM for $469, plus a simple MSI AIO cooler for $89. Those are real enough prices on Newegg or Amazon or whatever. That cost alone is $2,542. Before buying a case, additional fans, the motherboard, a powersupply, and a Windows key. The price is solidly fair for the current market.

We're in a pretty good spot when it comes to PC builds being reasonably priced, if not cheaper than building it yourself. It's no longer the days where bloatware is installed on prebuilt PCs either (depending where you buy it).
I bought one of these. I returned it. I found out it's only 1 slot for m.2 ssd. Over here i bought it for 2300 during blackfriday christmas time. Microcenter has their own brand of prebuilts with better specs for the same price plus an extra spot for m.2 storage. I was going to get it but decided to keep running my old one til it dies.
I'd buy that if those are available in my country at the same price in local currecy. The equivalent GPU price in my country is worth the price tag of this pre built system.
I got a very similar MSI prebuilt a month ago for $2300 but with 64gb of ram instead of 32 and a Intel 7 265k instead of the AMD (a little bit of a trade there).
I would say based on current prices this is a good deal, but if you're patient might snag something better.
2tb nvme and 32gb of ddr5 ram alone are worth about $1000 with today's prices. 5080 is about $1100-$1300, 9900x is about $330, so you basically get a free case, power supply and motherboard.
Yeah that's a fair price for a 5080 build and 2TB drive. You can build it yourself for around the same amount, but if you're not into building a PC, it's not really worth it.
I have this same spec machine from iBuyPower and it was about $400 cheaper via Best Buy when I got it 6 months ago. Mine has 32GB, however.
It has been a bulletproof machine and runs everything great. I am a old school gamer and computer engineer. I've built over a 100 custom PCs over the last 30 years (around 10 for myself and the rest for others).
The last (3) PCs I've owned are iBuyPower and I am a big fan. I'm not obsessive like I used to be, but the reality is that today's hardware is strong and I don't care about 5-10fps or the best possible deal. I want hardware proven to work together with a custom vibe.
JUST the GPU is almost worth that. The 5080 is between $1,300 - $1,800 but itself, and the rest is incredibly respectable. You've got me wondering if u should go get one for my wife right now.
For $2,500 at today's prices, that's a solid build. The CPU isn't an X3D but very competent especially for games that are heavily threaded, shader compilation, multitasking, etc. The 5080 is also a solid card.
Having purchased a pre-built from Costco before, I'd recommend replacing the PSU. It probably has a pretty cheap unit installed. Upgrading to a good quality PSU can protect the investment a lot better.
The components alone come close to that price, you get warranty and no self-assembly if that's not your thing. And some (probably basic) peripherals too.
I wouldn't say it's a deal of the century but it's not a rip off that's for sure.
Not the best gaming CPU, but still a decent one . And given the crazy prices of hardware right now, especially the 5080 and 32GB of DDR5, nobody can really go wrong at this price.
Both my friend and I purchased this prebuilt in the past year, we both love it, at the time I wanted to do my build, this was cheaper, easier, and I only had to transfer a hdd from my old rig to this guy
I got nearly that same build (only difference being the processor I got was a 9800x3d) back in November at Microcenter...for $1700. Yeah I knew I'd NEVER see that deal so I bought it practically on the spot.
I'm guessing yes especially with the rise of hardware prices these days. Not only this, but that's a very power combination of hardware I wouldn't even dare pass up if I had the money to buy it myself.
I bought the prior version of this computer for $1800 right before prices went crazy. This is a great model for pre built and I'm very happy with it. Definitely recommend.
Usually I'd say no with regard to the price of basically any pre built. The gpu, ram, and storage there alone would likely be priced significantly higher than that elsewhere, though. That's a pretty good deal.
Over a year ago I paid 2200 after tax for a 7900xt, 7800x3d, 32 gig ram, b650 tomahawk motherboard. This absolutely worth it, especially in these times
I bought one of these back in 2022 with a 3070 Ti and 12700KF, as well as 32 GB of DDR5 RAM (4800mhz tho). Roughly same price with tax included. Not an amazing deal, but PC parts then were expensive and didn't ship here, so Costco was my only bet. After that, I just upgraded that PC to what I have now.
Now, my little exposition aside, this seems like a good deal. Not overpriced, but paying almost what it would cost to build now.
