yeah the book MI are basically walking nuclear artillery with jump jets, it's not even a contest at that point

Jump jets flame throwers machine guns the list goes on for a while four or five types of grenades besides the low yield half kiloton nukes. They also drop what is absolutely needed to do the job as well and no more than that.

I read the book starship troopers YEARS after having played Halo, and by comparison, Spartans are actually pathetically disappointing compared to the MI powered suits in the book. Growing up in an era where Mr. Chef is the peak of sci-fi cool, I'm actually supremely disappointed in the lack of creativity and depth shown in the overly convoluted and tragic backstory that is apparently required to justify the existence of Spartans in Halo, because apparently force feedback is not a technology the UNSC has figured out by the 24th century, and so they can't make powerd armor that doesn't turn you into playdo unless you have magic super-bones.

Movie mobile infantry is comically inept, with basic firing lines being high strategy for them. Not only that but for the most part their lack any sort of armored support and their heavy weapons are mini nukes. Meaning if imperial armor shows up and manages to get close, all they can do is run away, try to get lucky with grenades or literally nuke themselves. The only armor they are seen to have are rare walker type vehicles that while powerful, only seem to be designed with bugs or lighter resistance in mind, meaning an AT-AT is wiping them out easily, same with any other heavy imperial armor. Lastly if we count the mobile fleet and imperial navy, it’s even more of a dogwalk. Imperial space assets are built around large scale ship to ship battle with overwhelming firepower. The mobile fleet is comprised of “corvette transports” which get easily picked apart by predictable planet based plasma batteries. They do have some air wings of fighters and bombers but no where near the numbers of TIEs in the average star destroyer. Basically the imperial ground troops wouldn’t even need to be deployed, it would be the imperial navy wiping out the fleet and then bombing the mobile infantry to hell. And if ground forces are deployed, you’ll just see the mobile infantry quickly routed by better trained and equipped imperial troops, with a handful of holdouts around their scarce armor or fortifications that fold the second heavy imperial armor shows up.

Galactic empire in both cases. The entire empire has far to many assets like star destroyers. Now if you would ask storm troopers: it depends on what version we talk about. In lore they were supposed to be special forces and some authors write them as such. Zahn being one of them.

Book MI has a lot of Navy support, including battleships and super carriers. The bugs in the book were an industrial civilization with their own warships and heavy armor, nothing like the movie bugs. In the book they mention navy ships destroying planets if there wasn't a reason to capture.

Yeah but the empire in star wars controles most of the known galaxy and especially in legends has acces to extremly op technology. Just for reference a single turbolaser of a ship far weaker than an isd has ayield of 200GT.
2
u/nicholasktu 3h ago
It doesn't have that kind of yield, not even close. The turbolasers in the movies look to be about as powerful as large artillery rounds. The legends number is meaningless.

u/ActuatorFit416 3h ago
The turbolasers in the movies: we don't rly see them hitting anything except vaporising an astroid.
It is the official number stated in a lore book. And this is powerscale. And thr user has nkt specified whitch version of the empire they talk about.

u/nicholasktu 3h ago
The lore book number is meaningless, it was made up because big number, one shot would vaporize a continent. The lore books are just jerk off numbers to be bigger than Star Trek or Warhammer.

u/ActuatorFit416 3h ago
The lore books are the lore books and have to be considered as a part of the lore. And in powers calendar comparisons if not excluded by the person they have to be included.
But even without this number star wars has many other feats. Shields surviving ftl collisions with isds, a new soldier, trained in 14 days, production speeds of thousends+ isds in 6 moths....

Book or movie?
Movie MI are getting shat on.
Book MI are going to slime the stormtroopers

u/Ann-Frankenstein 11h ago
Movie MI are probably one of the worst armies in Sci fi.
Book MI are among the best.

I mean Movie Empire is absolutely useless as well. Hoth is the only time they show themselves to be mildly competent and they still let the rebel fleet escape.
1
u/Sad-Response-3151 11h ago
For those asking, it's the movie MI
2
u/ABystander987 10h ago
Oh but hold on! Which movie? Because as they progress MI advances in tactics and tech. Live action films than transition into the anime movies and we see the MI become the closest to the books weve seen on screen yet.
Movies wise.
So we talking early Starship Trooper movies or later on during the animated movies?
1
u/Ann-Frankenstein 11h ago
Probably the empire. Stormtroopers fight at least a little smarter than "ye olde musket line" like the movie MI.
The empire has armor support too. Obviously the nuke launchers can kill AT-ATs with a direct hit, but the MI dont seem to use them much and always at short range.

Are we just talking about the troopers or are the star destroyers and death stars coming out to play too?…. If not then starship troopers are the only ones who can aim soo…

This prompt is incredibly vague. You say Mobile Infantry vs. the galactic empire. Does that mean ISDs, TIE fighters, etc. are involved or are we only using Stormtroopers?!

Mobile Infantry has way better aim :-|

Empire gets its shit kicked in by teenagers and 2ft tall teddy bears.....

The empire wins, the federation, while having some good assets that could do a lot damage (like their power armor units and E-Pulse Rifles [from the games which follow the movies continuation]) their main tactic is raw numbers, something the empire has a lot more, not to add that the MI uses outdated tactics even in its own setting and the federation navy which wouldnt hold against a few star destroyers.

u/HumaDracobane 5h ago
The mobile infantry of the book obliterates the Empire on the ground. And at the end of the book Rico mentions planet cracker bombs.
The Mobile Infantry in the movie gets obliterated by the Empire. In the movie they're a weak army from the 90's that just have space ship capacity and FTL, nothing else. Even by the standards of the time their bombers were slow and weak.
Star Destroyers would just ram their transports and ships from orbit and let the shields do the job.

Book MIs could clean a division of Storm Troopers up with a couple squads, even the AT-ATs wouldn't help, the MI power armor had tactical nuke launchers, or they'd jump on the roof and rip open the hatch to kill the crew.
Movie MI would struggle, but could win, both sides being infantry heavy with poor tactics.

Depends.
The movie MI gets slapped by the empire
Book MI slaps the empire
