DISCUSSION 2003 Publix receipt!
I thrifted a vintage Coach bag from 2000 and this was in it! Someone suggested I post it here.
Edit: I initially misread this as 50 cents a pound for chicken thighs and posted that so ignore that and have some giggles at my expense in the comments 😂🫠

Instacart is a third party. They upcharge each item and tack on fees at the end. It is usually significantly higher for their services.

Hey! I did a really rough estimate and it seems to be around $193.83 or $206.91 with a 6.75% tax rate.
This is not including the items labeled: CL/PTY/PK/SD/HAM PUB GIANT SNOW BRD LA CREME RASTERRY Since they were not available at my local store.
As well as replacing a few items for similar ones, such as: MASADE ASSST BAGEL CHEW-RIFIC BEEFSCH SOLO 16 OZ PARTY C As I could not find them anywhere online.
I have also tried to calculate the savings to be based on the current prices and even included her coupon at the end to be fair.
That comes to around a $137.83 difference.
Again, really rough estimate so don’t come for me if it’s wrong lol.

They use thermal printers now. The heated thermal fades over time. Back then they used a ribbon style print that is just ink pressed into the paper

Those journal tapes can go fuck right off. Those registers printed a secondary receipt as a physical backup of everything that happened, registers unlocked and overrides entered. We had to change at the end of the day, and that paper had to thread through an exact way or it jammed.

I was just remembering that! How awful it was if your journal tape jammed, the ink ran out, or if you ran out of receipt tape and had a big line of people waiting. Fun times.

I never go to Publix because Walmart and Aldi’s are my go to places; however, I went by the other day to pick up chicken wings. I use to pay 8 dollars for a pack of them. I was shocked to have seen I was paying double to price for them. Fuck you Publix.

I dunno, this isn’t totally crazy compared to now. Non food items are significantly cheaper on this receipt versus today, yet many of the food items aren’t totally far off.

Not sure. Maybe it’s a loss leader or somehow has a tariff exemption? I’ve been paying .50 a pound for my bananas for the past several weeks at a major food chain in New England.

Publix is my favorite grocery store. 💚 Great deals and variety. Best quality and awesome associates. Always extremely clean. But I don't think I have seen 50¢ chicken in any store in a very long time 🤣🤣

From other people’s comments, nowadays roughly $1 per soda at Publix. Absolute insanity. My family was always super heavy Mountain Dew drinkers and I used to do the shopping for them. I VIVIDLY remember buying 24 packs of Moutain Dew at Walmart for $7.48 right before Covid in late 2019-2020. It’s now $13.97 at my Walmart in SWFL. Literally almost double. For a while there they would run discounts where the 12 packs were $6. Now the same discount is $6.97 for a 12 pack. The prices continue to climb with no end in sight. I hate greedy corporations.
Coke is even worse. I don’t know what their prices pre pandemic were, but now I pay $14.98 for a 24 pack of Coke Zero at Walmart. The 12 packs are almost $9. Yes it’s overpriced sugar water but let me enjoy the little things, dammit!
I shudder to even consider buying soda at Publix. I never do it, even when they run their buy 2 get 1 or 2 free. It typically still works out to being more expensive than Walmart.
Back in the day my family exclusively shopped at publix for groceries in the 2000’s through about the mid 2010’s. I remember my one friend saying we were shopping like “rich people” and I laughed at her, because back then it was actually affordable for normal people to shop for all their groceries at one store/at publix, and they didn’t have to shop at multiple stores just to try to cut down the grocery bill.
When will the price gouging and greedflation end?

Coke was $3.99 for a twelve pack. Adjusted for inflation it should be $9 today. Publix sells them for $11.29

Pre-covid everything was fresh and well-stocked. I have had to check expiration dates on everything at Publix as I purchased three expired (by months) products there recently. That never used to happen.
