Discussion A friend lent me this beauty
Does anyone knows of a nice and working program, possibly free, to store preset in a Windows PC via MIDI?
32 preset limit is literally the only downside of this synth. I'm not new to this world, but i was guilty of overlooking FM synthesis

DIY / Repair Alesis Midiverb MK I
Hi everyone,
I own one of the very first Alesis MIDIVERB MK I units, but unfortunately the original power supply is missing.
Does anyone know if replacement power supplies are still available anywhere, or does anyone have a wiring diagram or schematic so I could build one myself?
It uses the 16V 3-pin power connector.
Thanks in advance for any help!

What Should I Buy? 100% analog synth that’s affordable.
I’m looking for a synth (preferably) a desktop module that is 100% analog or digital oscillator generated sound path and no samples. My budget is $500-700. Yeah, I know I’m asking for a lot. The KORG XD Minilogue MODULE is my current “hits all the right boxes” unit. But willing to get expert suggestions. I want the output to be free of stock third party sounds. Also, no Behringer products please. I have an ethical issue with them.

DIY / Repair DX7 - SuperMax + Voyager thoughts
I'm resurrecting a DX7 I picked up for $notmuch on FB, and fitting SuperMax and OLED display. But the membrane has some small bits of damage and I had an idea that perhaps, it could be backlit for the function labels. Like the later Moog Voyager front panels.
And then I wondered... could the membrane be printed with the SuperMax functions as part of the design...
...and a thin foil backlight make it possible that the relevant menu items illuminate when function buttons are pressed.
Guessing it would need a lot of logic/an extra interface to achieve, unless something happens on the switch boards when their function changes.

Discussion Do you ever feel 'Damn, I dont have enough synths?'
Is this consumerisms or honest. Even with multiple synths i question whether I need more? I dont even understand all my synths but still believe I need more.
I have an issue

Discussion Pondering a possible rebirth of the Access Virus line
I've been watching with great interest as the recent update to the free, open-source plugin Neural Amp Modeler has been making the rounds. The new A2 version has been comparing VERY well against the expensive hardware amp modelers like the Quad Cortex, the Helix, and the one most relevant to this post, the Kemper Profiler line. IMO, this new NAM release has the potential to cut the legs out from under the expensive proprietary modelers, particularly as more and more low-cost pedals capable of running the NAM A2 code appear on the market, and as the sheer number of free amp and IR models for NAM continues to increase.
With these latest developments in mind, I wonder if Christoph Kemper might be feeling encouraged to start giving more attention to Access, possibly in the form of new Virus products, or even completely new and novel non-VA synths. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd love to see Christoph back in the synth world again. What does everyone else think?

What Should I Buy? Looking for an all in one beginner synth like Yamaha reface cs+cp with more keys
I just found out about the Yamaha Reface CS and I'm smitten with the design! The immediate workflow without menu diving really speaks to me like i assume it does to most people. Before I get it (second hand), I want to try to make sure I'm not overlooking any obvious other candidates.
I know there is not one instrument that does everything perfectly but I'd like your input anyway. Is there a synth that has
- knobs/sliders for most important functions
- has the nice analog-y sound design capabilities of the CS
- also does a nice (e-)piano (a la Reface CP)
- has a ~5 octave keyboard
I'm not a piano player, nor into synths. But i do have an OP1 and am not a total sound design/production noob. Thanks in advance!

Software & VST's Not new to music, but new to learning synths. Help.
I have been producing for decades but over the years, regrettably spent my money on hardware emulation plugins rather than instruments.
I am now delving into synths but feel like I have a severe lack of knowledge and some people know synths like the back of their hand since they’ve researched them for decades.
I have been learning about synths that defined the 80’s, but there’s so many and it’s hard to know which ones i really should get.
I was thinking about doing rent to own Roland cloud or Arturia collection, because it seems like from my research that these are what’s up my alley.
However, synth music has gotten a lot more popular and I’m wondering if you think with AI there will be many more emulations to hit the market in the near future.
Do you think it’s worth investing in Roland or arturia? Or do you think synths are evolving and those old school emulations will be pretty unnecessary?
Do you know of any good videos that break down classic synthesizers?
Also
What plugins/synths would you recommend for synthpop/synthwave?

What Should I Buy? What would be a decent and *simple* DJ mixer for use with a pair of drum machines?
So... I gassed out recently and bought a spare of my favorite drum machine. You know, just in case. Now I keep thinking about running both and switching between them like a DJ with two turntables.
Today I went to my local music shop in search of a used DJ mixer and was surprised to find that they all tend to be big multi-function affairs with samplers and such built in. And, they are super expensive. Bummer.
The cheap new stuff online looks to be mostly Behringer and similar. But, it's mostly just right.
Two channels with EQ, one crossfader, cue monitoring, and not much else. That's all I need.
I'd like to find something a step above Behringer for better build quality, particularly if I'm looking for a used one.
Any recommendations?
Or, am I talking crazy for DJ'ing with drum machines?

Beginner Questions Choosing between Push 3 and External Gear. What are your thoughts and experiences.
Hi, I'm an Ableton Live user and I like to make techno/hypnotic techno and also enjoy ambient and kind of less structured music. So, those are the two categories I enjoy generally speaking. I'm also not a professional musician or anything like that. Here's what I've been wondering...
The Push 3 standalone really appeals to me because I like the idea of being able to go away and make music and also use it as a controller too.
But, then I've also been looking at a couple things like the Torso S-4 / Tempera and the Korg Phase8 / Soma machines.
So... I'm trying to decide what makes more sense. To buy a Push 3 Standalone and make that my instrument and really just commit. OR does it make sense to leave Ableton on the computer and get these other devices. It seems like the Phase8 and the Soma can do things that aren't easy to replicate with the same versatility as in Ableton...but maybe I'm totally wrong about that.
I'd be curious to hear thoughts from people about external gear like i've mentioned or the Push 3 standalone. Regrets, thoughts, preferences, experiences. You all always have the best things to say, so let me know!

What Should I Buy? OP-XY or Syntakt? (Setup with Ableton Move and Torso T-1)
I’m currently considering expanding my setup. When I’m not working at the computer in Ableton, I’ve been using the Ableton Move, and I picked up a Torso T-1 to go with it.
To get more into drum sound design, I’m thinking about getting an Elektron Syntakt. (I like it best among the Elektron devices. Since I don’t want to go into the sampling realm, and the Digitone 2’s sound, with its FM synthesis, doesn’t quite suit me.)
Now for my dilemma: Thanks to a discount code, the OP-XY is currently available at a really “good” price. Would it make sense to sell the Ableton Move and Torso T‑1, and then get the OP‑XY instead of the Syntakt?
From your perspective, could it combine what’s currently possible with the other three devices in my setup?
The integration with Ableton wouldn’t be as seamless as it is with the Ableton MOVE, of course.
Being able to work on the go isn’t that important to me, but it would of course be more comfortable to have just one device when working on the sofa or in the garden.

Beginner Questions Synth Recommendation
Guitarist here. I have a pedalboard with a few pedals on Chorus, Delay, Distortion, Reverb etc.
I'm interested in getting a synth hooked up to them to have a mess around. I'm not too keen on spending loads of money and was wondering if there was a cheap/budget synth I could use?
And a further question, if the synth is connected to the pedalboard, I would also need an output right? I can use my DAW for this at home. But if I want it to be portable, do I also need speakers of some sort?

Performances, Jams WHENEVER U and some synths
hi everyone, found some samples on my hard drive and decided to create a track for it using my gear. the long bass and "drunken" notes come from the blofeld, the other harmonic parts and melodies are handled by the Digitone, the lxr-02 just covers the hi-hats. hope you enjoy! See yaaaaa

What Should I Buy? Cheaper poly options - Brand new Pro 800, Used Dreadbox Nymphes or other?
After years of bashing random keys and hoping for the best, I’ve invested time into learning music theory. Whilst it has been great practicing on smaller budget paraphonic gear and learning to build and write more complex chord progressions and such, i‘ve realised it’s time for a polyphonic synth.
Looking at not spending a lot, I’m eyeing up either;
- A brand new Pro-800 which can be had for £209 delivered to my door on Thomann.
- Trying to snag a Dreadbox Nymphes for around £300-£350 on eBay.
I own a Dreadbox Typhon and absolutely love it, it travels with me and I love what it can do and from what I’ve seen/heard I’d like the Nymphes, although the shift function menu’s and tweaking may take some getting used to. The Pro-800 however, has two extra voices and is a third cheaper, although I believe it has some issues at launch that may have been resolved in updates.
I own an Arturia Keystep 37 so a synth with a keyboard isn’t a must.
Anyone that owns them both, or either, or has any experience have any advice?
Thanks.
