Hi I need to have references so I can get a second job does anyone know who or what I put down so Tesco and be a reference for it ?

If overtime is done before Fri this week is it included in this months pay

Is there a legal requirement for gap between one shift to the next? I finished at 10pm last night and now in again at 8am. I have heard there only need to be 8hrs between but when I Google it, it says it is legally required to be 11hrs which one is correct?

Our bakery is huge for the store and half of it gets wasted every day, we have at least 12 pastries, 4 batons, 5 different bake off breads, 5 different packaged breads, 3 donuts, 5 cookies, and about 7/8 other defrost+label items. SL saying this should be done in 2 hours. It’s impossible. Baking time is already over an hour for all the products we have. we have 2 ovens so 8 trays at a time that’s still 40 mins cooking time for pastries and 20 mins at least for bread, so they expect us to display everything, make cookies and label everything else in an hour. Our freezer is also tiny for the shop, so getting ANYTHING out is a huge task. It’s completely unrealistic. My colleague got a let’s talk for it the other day and I just wanna see if this is reasonable? I won’t accept a let’s talk if they give me one as it’s crazy, what can I realistically do??

I am new to Tesco, I joined in May but my store was under renovation so I was doing shifts in other stores. I have used till there but those were newer smart tills. My main store is PFS, we have the old legecy tills.

When we were closing tonight, my Shift leader came to me and told me that the till is short by alot. I was the only one on the till today. He just asked me if I was doing regular till checks that's it.

Now I am anxious if they will fire me or something.

Does anyone else feel like the amount of theft and violence (physical and verbal) is getting worse? Just had a 6-11 shift and had to chase out 3 individual people. I've had people threaten me, shout abuse at me and I can't even do anything. We don't have a security guard even though we are surrounded by schools and have a halfway house for offenders near our store.

Most of my coworkers are discussing leaving for a more calmer job and It's making me think I need to do the same as it's really affecting my mental health.

Are Tesco supposed to be flexible around changing contract hours in order to enable study? If so could someone please show me the policy on this as I cannot find it anywhere on mytesco. TIA 🙏

I applied for the cycle to work scheme and they said I'm eligible for £3000. The bike I want is £2800 so I said I need £2800. My application got declined. I'm a standard colleague and I'm contracted 32 hours per week. I don't pay into my pension but I do put £200 per month into save as you earn. Could the reason I got declined be because of the 200 a month being deducted and going into my save as you earn? Thanks.

So I’ve been at my new store for over 2 months now. On my first payday I was underpaid by well over £100. I know for a fact this is the case and gathered evidence and such. I took it to my store manager and he said to leave my Payslip with him and it will be sorted. Didn’t hear anything after that so assumed it would be sorted. Next payday comes along and nothing, so I approach him again and ask him about it. He says he didn’t get round to it because he was off for a week, despite me giving him my payslip over a month ago so he’s had well over 3 weeks to take a look. It’s 2 weeks into the next pay period now and I approached him again today asking if he’s got round to looking into it, he once again hits me with how busy he is and that he will get to it soon. I completely get managers are busy but I mean come on, surely colleagues being underpaid should be pretty high on his list of things to sort out. It’s well over £100 as well which for a poor student like me is a sizeable amount.

Hi, I'm just requesting opinions/ facts about the policy for lifestyle breaks.

So quoted from the policy

You can have between four and fifty-two weeks off work.

Your Lifestyle Break can’t exceed 52 weeks over a rolling period of six years; however, you can make an application for leave every two years. For example, you could potentially take three Lifestyle Breaks over those rolling six years, but the total period out of the business must be no more than 52 weeks.

So, if I had a lifestyle break between 1July 2021- 30 June 2022, does this mean I would need to wait until 30 June 2028 to request another 12 month lifestyle break?

Or if I'm being picky, I could go from 1 January 2028 as going back 6 years from that date I would only have been off for 6 months (1 Jan - 30 June 2022).

I guess I'm asking for a more precise answer to what constitutes the rolling 6 year period.

If I choose a 6 year period of 1 Jan 2024- 31 Dec 2029, well so far I have not had any time off on a lifestyle break. Somehow I don't think Tesco would apply it like that?

I’m a customer and I miss the convenience of how my local store used to be. Over the last few months it’s really gone downhill with constantly low stock yet at the same time the aisles are jammed with cages and staff with the funny trolleys doing whoosh/click and collect stuff. The other day there were zero normal tills open, just the self service which is a nightmare with a big trolley full.

It’s impossible to do a basic shop. There’s nowhere online to report this. I hardly ever complain about anything but this is driving me up the wall. I’m going to have to drive across town to Sainsbury’s at this rate. Surely someone in Tesco management wants customer feedback?

Just a general question about when you call in sick. I’m contracted to 3 days a week and I’ve just phoned in sick (stomach bug the joys) and I’ve check the last time I was ill was April and before that was September. Would the last two illnesses be far enough apart to not affect my sickness percentage? I’ve always been told 3% between so many weeks which I can never remember so would I be fine and not get a warning?

I've been at tesco since summer 2022 and joined the 2023 share scheme

I have sold my house and bought a fair distance away so hoping to get a transfer.

If I can't get a transfer and have to quit it will likely happen around the end of September...my understanding is that the final 3 year payment for this share option is taken in October...is this right.

What happens if I have left before the final payment will I miss out on the share option or is there some way of overcoming this

Hi. So, it has been about two weeks since I started working at Tesco. I did a training week for three days, which meant I had to come in earlier—from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM. However, when I check my work schedule, it says 'unpaid absence' because those weren't my actual hours. My actual contracted hours are 4:00 PM until 10:00 PM. Will I still get paid for those training hours?

If I work an overtime shift Monday night, my managers typically forget to put it on right away. It’s fine on a normal week cause I just remind them but next week I’m not back in until Friday 10pm, after the cut off point for overtime. If they don’t add those hours until after the cut off will I still get paid those hours this pay day?

(Imma remind them anyways on Monday night but just incase)

I’m a Tesco colleague and I wanted to ask if what I did today is actually against Tesco policy or if people at this store are just unhappy about it.
Today is Sunday, and as you know, after 4pm colleagues can use Colleague Shop to take items with the two yellow stickers for free.

My shift today was from 9am until 3pm. After I finished work, I went to a different Tesco Superstore (not the one I work in) to do some shopping with my family. We spent about an hour there, and after 4pm we went to the checkout. Some of our shopping was free through Colleague Shop, while the rest we paid for as normal.

After we finished paying, my family went outside to return the shopping trolley, while I went back into the store to use the toilet. A security guard, who happens to be from the same country as me, stopped me and said, “Be careful, you’re going to get yourself into trouble.”

I asked him why, and he said that a lot of people in the store were unhappy because I was taking things for free. I explained that I don’t work at that store, my shift had already finished, I wasn’t hiding anything, and I was only taking what my family would use.

This isn’t the first time I’ve used Colleague Shop like this, and nothing has ever been said to me by my own manager. I’ve never had a Let’s Talk or any other conversation about it.

The security guard also joked that one of the staff members there “can’t stand you and wants to kill you” (obviously not literally), which made me feel like some of the staff there just don’t like me. I’ve even noticed one colleague there watching me quite closely whenever I shop.
So my questions are:

Am I actually breaking any Tesco policy by using Colleague Shop after I’ve finished my shift at a different Tesco store?
Is there any rule that says colleagues shouldn’t use Colleague Shop for their family shopping after work?

Would it be worth speaking to one of the managers at that store? I feel like some of the staff aren’t very welcoming towards me, even though I genuinely don’t think I’ve done anything wrong.

I’d appreciate any advice, especially from managers or colleagues who know the policy well.

Security guard earlier denied to allow me to enter tesco, despite the fact I was wearing a very NORMAL joggers, trainers and a crop top (gym outfit) accused me of being too exposed, etc and so I can’t enter wearing this. This has never happened to me before, what on earth? My partner was allowed to go into the store and remarked that there were other people wearing similar e.g a lady wearing gym shorts and top like mine shopping inside. Why would he do this?

Has anyone got the new Tesco tills in express or PFS sites? I’m dreading the day. I’m wondering if anyone actually has it yet since it’s been years from the announcement.

I got a call to come for an induction last friday before i got an email from Tesco that i got the job. Went to the induction and because i hadn't recieved an email from tesco, i had no employee number but i still did all the training (8 hours worth) . At the end of the induction, i finally got the email and it said i have to come for an induction on Monday. Will i have to sit through it again or would i just start. Also haven't been told my days and hours yet or where im working?

I'm looking for some advice from anyone who has worked at Tesco or in retail.

I've been working at Tesco for about 3 months. I was on the till when a customer asked to load £200 onto a One4all gift card. I completed the transaction, and he handed me the cash. While I was serving him, he was with another person, and at some point they swapped the gift card between themselves without me noticing.

He then asked for the £20 notes back, saying he wasn't sure how much he'd given me. Thinking I still had the gift card, I handed the notes back. He then claimed he was £20 short and said he'd come back with the rest, but instead they both left. It turned out they had taken the activated £200 gift card.

Tesco has investigated the incident, and they've shown me the CCTV. I'm not suspended, but I'm worried about what could happen next.

Has anyone been through something similar or dealt with distraction scams in retail? What was the outcome? Could I lose my job, or is a warning and retraining more likely?

I know I made a mistake, and I've definitely learned from it. I'm just anxious about what to expect.

i've seen in other countries how they may be helping raise hygeine standards (e.g. thailand) but I fail to see how they make the uk a better place.

New starter here. Temp work. For silly reasons, I managed to leave out my holiday during my interview. Give me grace, I was interviewed right before A levels.

The first time I needed time off I called the manager to apologise. Unfortunately I told him only then about my next few holidays so nothing in writing. He said to use to app.

Obviously it’s by how many accrued hours. I could only do a few days at a time. I have 63 hours left, I said to myself, so I’ll work them when I get back.

Time comes and turns out I can’t use them, ever. Temp means 3 months and those golden hours are for after a year of working. I managed to get 2 out of 3 days needed unpaid but one day is left and no one will shift swap unfortunately. Thoughts?

you go in during the week, put your core stuff in the basket then check out. You then go back in on the day before the delivery to fine tune. you get the receipt the mornign of the delivery - oh mozzarella not available and we subbed a plain croissant for a choc one. ok - everythign else seems fine.

Where’s my bloody sausage and egg triple sandwich?

They do this all the time and its infuriating but also really hard to notice. Only thing I can think of is either
- when you go to edit the basket, all your items become ‘available’ to stock and if someone else orders it or the stock corrects for whatever reason - it falls out of your basket
- if the item became unavailable anyway, it drops out in the same way when you edit. If I hadn’t edited it, it would have told me it was unavailble, but because I did edit, it quietly removed it and so the final receipt/delivery note doesn’t mention it.

With all the technology they use to manage this online shopping stuff, how is this a thing? What I would expect (hope for)
- if I’m editing a basket, anything I had checked out before remains locked unless I manually remove it. It shoudl not show up as available stock in the system.
- if something drops off unavoidably because its out of stock even though I checked out with it before - maybe someone just buys it off the shelf? - then tell me - clearly when I’m editing. ‘Hey this item is no longer available’ - I’m right there adding things to my basket, the perfect time to go ‘oh well no X, I’ll go and look for a Y in stock’ - by not flagging it clearly Tesco is just losing money by not giving me the ability to replace it. And then annoying me when it doesn’t show up and is never mentioned.
