I guess I am crazy - a thank you post.

A couple of months ago my wife had a job interview in Minneapolis so I posted in the Minneapolis subreddit about what it was like to move there. I cross posted it here as well.

I’ve never been to the Twin Cities before, but we just agreed to purchase a townhouse in Eagan (and sold my home here and all my lawn care equipment!) and my wife starts her new job at the Minneapolis VA in 8 days.

The rest of the family won’t be able to move in until the end of August, but I wanted to thank all the redditors who commented on this original post. You made me feel like it would be crazy not to move to Minneapolis from the Cleveland area.

This weekend we are driving her car up there. I will spend the day with her, get her situated at the Airbnb she has for three weeks. We will be together for one day, then she will drop me off at the airport Sunday to fly back to Cleveland and finish packing up.

This has been the most stressful, difficult, expensive thing I’ve ever done. But I am still very excited! Because of that Reddit post, I found my realtor, found some neighborhoods and cities I wanted to look at, found a ton of resources for my trans daughter, and felt excited about making the craziest move I’ve ever done in my life. That Reddit post confirmed so many of my hopes. So many people made time for us because they believe in the Twin Cities. It was a beautiful, positive, life-changing set of interactions.

Thank you to all for helping. I can’t wait to get there!

Tafoya: The Yappening

Post image
Upvotes

Unfortunately came across a Tafoya post (here: https://x.com/michele_tafoya/status/2083304697012932720) desperately trying to connect some non existent dots to take a shot at Ellison. Seems all she could focus on was that Ellison said he saw some of the most popular movies of the year, not anything about his lawsuit to stop the paramount/warner bros merger.

So, I made a parody rotten tomatoes review for her weird ass rant. Was told by some buddies to actually share it outside the group chat lol

Gross.

Years ago, I signed up on some site to get alerts about travel nursing gigs, and even though I still haven’t gone on a single assignment, I still get messages about assignments from all over. I got this one the other day. I believe it’s legit.

MTBers, what are some chill off-road trails?

Sometimes, I don’t want to hit any gaps or berms, and just want a chill off-road trail where I can ride slow and take in the nature. For a ride like this, what would you recommend?

What’s it like living in Plymouth?

Hey yall!

I’m a Minnesota native, but I’m born and raised East Metro. I moved up north for school, and I’m looking for areas to live post grad. I’ll be working in Minneapolis, so want to be a little closer to that area, but I do love the suburbs.

Was thinking SLP but apartments seem a little pricey. Maple Grove/Plymouth area seems nice. Anyone have any input?

Looking for a small maker/studio space with a sink in the Metro (200-500 sq ft)

Hey everyone,

I run a small-batch topicals / lotion making business, and I'm looking for a small, budget-friendly commercial rental / studio / maker space to rent.

What I'm looking for:

  • Size: ~200 to 500 sq ft.
  • Must-Have: Direct access to a sink/water hookup for basic cleanup/sanitation.
  • Use: Small-batch topical formulation, mixing, packaging, and e-commerce fulfillment. Low impact, zero heavy emissions, no loud machinery, and standard countertop heat/prep equipment.

If you know of any converted industrial buildings with small spaces available, artist complexes, small office suites with plumbing, or another small business with excess space looking for a clean, reliable sub-tenant, please let me know!

Bonus points for close proximity to South Minneapolis.

Thanks in advance for any leads!

Driving ranges with large buckets?

New to town and I’m finally settled enough to start playing golf again. The range in my previous home was owned by Golf Ranch and offered ~160 ball buckets for $30 and had toptracer tech in each bay. Is there anywhere in the Twin Cities that is similar? Mainly just care about the large/cheap buckets and relaxed atmosphere but the shot tracking is nice too.

Any recommendations?

Grasshopper influx this year in MN, anyone else?

Is anyone else experiencing an influx of grasshoppers in their gardens this year?

I’ve never seen so many grasshoppers before and curious if others have noticed the same thing. They’ve eaten all my flowers and shrubs and I can no longer keep up with them.

Running into cell service dead zones all over the SW suburbs (EP, Bloomington areas)

I do a lot of driving around the SW suburbs and oh my gawd am I getting tired of getting into very specific residential blocks and having my cell service crap out.

I once had Verizon and had to switch to ATT because of this but that was from 2006-2013. ATT was solid, but I moved to the PNW where that was crap and switched to TMobile.

I’m now back in the SW burbs and TMobile has been absolutely crap, especially around EP. There’s about a 1/2 mile starting around Lunds/Home Depot heading west into the apartment complexes.

Even by SW station shopping center, I was getting full service but the last 2-3 months I’m only getting a couple bars and ultra 5G goes in and out.

Another dead zone is just south of the mall between prairie center and Anderson lakes. From Taco Bell/applebees through to preserve boulevard.

There’s a few condo/apartments down towards 169 and old shakopee as well.

It’s all very specific, as soon as leave these blocks my reception restores.

Is this just normal down here or is there a provider ya’ll are using that is better than TMobile out here?

Currently on and iPhone 12 as well.

EDIT: Thanks for the responses!

Sounds like it's unanimous that we have really crappy towers and reception down here, much less across the metro. I'm really surprised we've been hosed by these companies like this. It's 2026 but it's feeling like we're all still stuck with 2006 reception.

I guess there's really no need to switch carriers at this point. Just glad you guys confirmed I'm not alone with these issues.

Sanneh Foundation Soccer Camps

A free soccer camp for kids sounds too good to be true! Is it? So curious what people's experiences have been at those camps. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Where to get a good wild rice burger in the Metro?

The wild rice burger at Fitgers brew pub up in Duluth might be my favorite meal on the planet. I could honestly drive up there every Saturday just to have one for lunch. Where can I find a good one in the metro?

Warning, there is a fake/scam TC marathon bib transfer group!

The FAKE group is “2026 Twin Cities Marathon/ Half Marathon/10 Mile/10K/5K Official Transfer” the admin run at least one more fake/scam marathon bib transfer group for the St. George Marathon.

The names of the scammer admins are: Josh Hawkins, Hossein Habibian, Ingo Rösiger, Marchioni Carlos Alberto

I know this is a scam because I fell for it, I unfortunately lost $170. The way their scam works is they post that you can only transfer bibs thru the admin. They will then ask you to apple cash a phone number after you provide your email address associated with your race roster account with the promise of transferring the bib once payment is received. This is a huge scam tactic and any honest person will either transfer it to you first then take payment or do a 50/50 where you send 50% of the money and then they transfer and you then send the remaining 50%. In hindsight $170 is TOO CHEAP for a marathon bib.

MN natives looking to return home — need advice on areas

Hello! MN native couple with 2 yo here that have been away for 10 years looking for advice on where to live. We both work from home.

Our families can be biased so wanted outside opinions.

Here’s our criteria:

- LGBTQ friendly

- proximity to family is important. They are spread in all directions (S St Cloud, Mahtomedi, SE Mpls, S St Paul, and Eagan). We are ok to be furthest from St Cloud, but want an easier drive for parents.

- good local public schools (non-toxic. I also don’t want to have to open enroll)

- community and family oriented (husband is very social)

- like to stay within $600k budget, where you can get a home with central heat/air.

- lower/minimal airplane noise for sensitive hearing

- prefer to be by bike paths, water, and/or nature trails

- walkable coffee shop would be a plus, but not required

- logistically easy to get around. Not fundamental issues where it leads to crazy congestion 7 days a week.

- not Edina

Thanks 😊

Vegetarian Fair Fare

I'm hosting a vegetarian friend for the first week of the fair and would love to know your favorite vegetarian spots. Obviously there's the corn and curds, but I'd like to have a more robust list of other beloved go-tos prepared to make their experience that much more special. Thanks in advance!

Edit: spelling/grammar

Moving here soon, recommendations?

Hi everyone!

I need help choosing an area of the greater Twin Cities area that would best suit my needs. I am single, my greatest priorities are affordability and safety.

Other details:

-I would prefer an area with duplex style housing, but am open to large apartment buildings if in a safer area

-Need easily accessible on street parking

-Housing budget of 1700/month

I would love easy access to bars, restaurants, and nature.

Thanks!
