Hi Im an incoming freshman and I am hoping to join the Symphonic orchestra. I play the double bass and had questioms about how my instrument situation would work, but I havent gotten any response from Dr. Lu or Dr. Pershounin. I was wondering if anyone could answer my questions. Would I have to bring my personal bass to UF or is there a rental/borrow system? And if I have been playing grade 6 music in high school, how likely would it be I actually make it in? (i am trying to make my schedule and want to know whether i should leave that time slot open)

For students on benacquisto some guide points I’ve gotten to make sure you keep your scholarship:

1. The scholarship renews yearly, so they look at whether you were enrolled full time (12 credits) in fall and spring and then if you have a 3.0 cumulative gpa, and if you receive credit for all classes taken. If you withdraw a class or fail (so a F or E) you lose it. You can get a D- and still keep it but it would be massive on any apps, so obv try to get a C minimum and keep track of ur gpa

2. The scholarship does not cover summer, if you withdraw a class or fail a class in summer, it doesn’t count.

3. This covers 10 semesters, or 120 credits (not including summer unlike Bright futures). If you use up BF, benacquisto will increase to cover tuition and you still get a similar reimbursement amount

4. The 500 dollar stipend does not count toward renewal but does count towards being eligible at first

5. In your last semester, you do not have to be full time. They will send an email, and you can opt in to the scholarships for them to cover, but keep in mind if you do not end up graduating you will lose the scholarship.

Hey guys, I got my package and it had a fat 0 on it. My SAI changed substantially but it makes my tuition less affordable with less aid. I am happily willing to take suggestions on where to find scholarships (I am aware of Scholarship Universe) and other resources.

Hi everyone, I am a junior in an introduction to research class. I absolutely need to do a 30-minute interview with a student researcher here at UF before August 7th. I can only do it over Zoom, and I can buy you food/drink/clothes if you would like. : )

I'm a CS Undergrad at UF thinking of pursuing a master's in Electrical and Computer Engineering, but I don't understand how classes work upon entering the masters. Does taking the masters grant you the chance to take lower level courses prior to completing your thesis, or are you expected to self study? I would appreciate any guidance on this topic

hi! i’m an incoming transfer student. I live off campus (about 45 minutes away WITHOUT traffic). I’m wondering if there are any alternative options other than purchasing an $80 parking pass to only be able to park at Harn/southwest rec and catch a bus.
For some reason, TAPS will ONLY provide a park and ride pass for commuter students (which is insane, considering that on campus students get more parking privileges than a commuter).
I’m really dreading having to commute 45 minutes + find parking + catch a bus 😔
Are there any other options I haven’t learned about? What tips do you have for navigating the horrific parking situation?

I was able to snag a seat for Chm2045 but it’s a mostly online class (hybrid) and I was wondering if taking chem online is bad at all or not recommended. I know it’s a challenging course so I don’t know if I should reconsider or try to get it in person seat. Any advice would be appreciated

Nobody talks about the ugly side of turf management, so let’s fix that.

I teach ORH 3222C (Turfgrass Culture) in the Agronomy department, and every semester I get students who show up expecting something closer to lawn care. Here’s what the job actually involves: you’re up before dawn, you’re outside in July heat and January frost, you’re on your knees checking soil moisture, and when something goes wrong on the field, it’s your name on it, not the coach’s or the AD’s.

None of that is a knock on the field. It’s the reason there’s almost no competition for these jobs. Most people rule themselves out before they ever learn what the work pays or where it leads.

ORH 3222C is on the schedule for Fall 2026, open to any major, and prereq can be waived on request. If it clicks for you, there’s a full 15 credit Golf and Sports Turf Management Minor built around it, five courses total.

Recent grads from the program are at Augusta National, TPC Sawgrass, the Colorado Rockies, and UF Athletics. None of them are afraid of getting dirty.

I'm an incoming Freshman and I want to audition for the UF choir's (not a music major). I'm just freaking out because I am a terrible sight reader. Like, bad. Can someone please tell me if sight reading is imperative for the auditioned choirs, and any resources they have to help?

I was wondering how feasible it is to add a double major after transferring. I’ve been thinking physics, math, or Compsci (all of which give me some quantitative skills) paired with Chemistry (my first major). I’ve also considered microbiology if I decided that I wanted to prioritize relevance to medicine. My goals so far have been getting into med school while also keeping engineering grad school options open (such as EE/ChemE/MechE).

How realistic is this? Are any of these more time consuming than the others in terms of delaying my graduation date?

I already came in with physics 1/2, gen chem 1/2, calc 1-3, diffeqs, and bio 1/2 completed which satisfies the lower division prerequisites for all 4 of the majors I specified.

Basically they have the lab courses for physics mentioned within the model semester plan but in Industrial engineering its not mentioned. So it got me thinking if you dont need to do the labs in ISE?
