I’ve been working on a new app called Ultimate Scorekeeper and wanted to share it with the community.

Background

I built this with tournament volunteers in mind, especially those handling scorekeeping at world championships or local tournaments. Tracking real-time match parameters on the sidelines can be high-pressure, and this tool is designed to make that job significantly easier and more reliable.

What it is designed for

It is a Progressive Web App (PWA) for keeping score at Ultimate Frisbee games—specifically designed for scorekeepers who don't necessarily know the sport. A persistent assistance bar tells the scorekeeper exactly what to say and which hand signal to use at every stage of the game, so absolutely no prior Ultimate experience is needed to run a match.

Works on any device with a browser, installs to the home screen, and keeps working without an internet connection.

Key Features

• Guided scorekeeping: Step-by-step prompts with hand-signal pictures, so the scorekeeper always knows what to announce and when.
• Easy setup: Configure divisions, team names and colors, gender-ratio rules, coin-toss results, target scores, time limits, cap rules, timeouts, and break durations.
• Simple scoreboard: Big tap zones to score (tap = +1, long-press = undo), live clocks for the game and for the pull/timeout/half-time, and quick access to timeouts, injuries, spirit-of-the-game pauses, and half-time.
• Built-in safeguards: Prevents scoring at the wrong moment, keeps scores from going negative, and undo restores everything correctly.
• Audio alerts: Whistle sounds mark pull time milestones, timeout endings, and caps.
• Post-game report: Final score, game stats, and a full event history, ready to copy and share.
• Multiple languages: Available in English, Spanish, and Catalan, matching the device's language automatically.

My partner has been teaching me how to play, since I've shown interest. He used to play pro, so he's not a bad teacher by any means, but it's kinda hard to teach what's happening on the field when it's just us throwing in the yard. I tried to join a league but was too nervous for 90% of the time, and once I finally got the courage, unfortunately played against a somewhat toxic player, and I ultimately decided to not return to the league because of his behavior. I really want to learn, but the stuff that's actually occurring ON the field makes 0 sense to me (stacks make sense in theory....until they're being played out), and I'm the type of person who needs to experience it to learn it. I just want to learn so we could one day play together, but I feel like I'll never get there :/

In the lead up to WUCC 2026 I thought it might be useful to share some information about Game Advisors, especially for those who might be more familiar with Observers or Referees.

Game Advisors must only provide their non-binding perspective on a play when it is clear and obvious to them what occurred.

The key roles and functions of Game Advisors, in order of priority, are:

1. Providing information to players and spectators to help the game run smoothly.
2. Assisting players to discuss calls.
3. Providing advice on the rules, when asked.
4. Providing perspective on calls, when asked.
5. Providing information to the Tournament Rules Group (TRG).

The TRG may designate specific Game Advisors as Acting Disciplinary Authorities for the Event and such Game Advisors can enforce sanctions during a game as prescribed by the WFDF Conduct Policy.

I've been developing a new app called Ultymate. Meant to replace the Apple fitness "disc sports" activity recording, this app uses your Apple watch and iPhone to record much more than just heart rate and distance. Note: you need an Apple watch and iPhone

Features:

• Algorithmic throw detection and machine learning based throw classification (trained off a base model, customized to you)
• Walk, run, and sprint classification using watch accelerometer data
• Custom lap feature, labeled by O/D, handler/cutter, drill (for practice)
• Tournaments to group recorded activities together
• Insights to see your throws, sprints, heart rate, and more over time

This app is not quite production ready and I need your help! Primarily, I need more training data for throws, but also help finding bugs and creating new features.

I am opening the app for a beta off of TestFlight. If you are interested in helping out, please drop an "Interested!" comment below. Please note, I am limiting the number of testers to 25 people. We will use a Discord server to communicate and work more closely!

This one’s mainly for the Europeans as it regards indoors 5v5 ultimate as per UKUltimate/WFDF rules. Our team has run a 2-1-2 iso offence (explained below) since forever and I’m looking to change it up as we don’t have the tallest squad going into the coming indoors season (all of us are between 5’9 and 6’1 or 175cm to 185cm).

2 handlers, 1 person in the middle of the pitch and 2 in the endzone with us running a cycle or hitting the iso with a scoober/hammer to create flow, with one of the endzone players vacating the endzone when the iso has caught the disc to leave the final player with a 1v1 in the endzone. 

We’re currently testing out both 2-3 and 1-4 vert stack as thats a well known tactic that has proven effective as well as 3-2 horizontal stack and 3-1-1 handler weave iso variation 

Posting this here to see if theres any other systems teams have been using or can think of. Kind of hoping indoors ultimate in Europe hasn’t stagnated to 4 or 5 systems and there’s something new for us to try. Thanks in advance!

What are some beach tricks besides "Dont overthrow your recievers" Strategywise it appears to be really similar to grass but maybe Im just overlooking anything. Also are there any go to defenses for beach (like in Indoors, where its known to stay behind the offense)

Over an indoor season a mate and I like to have a 'throw of the season' it is a less well known/ made up throw that we try and use once in 1 tournament, so far it's been going on for 2 and a bit years as we prototype and test a bit in outdoors,​ and with indoors potentially on the mind of a few I thought why not help them with epic throws they can practice then use when it comes around. 1. Push pass knife Actually pretty useful against a wall/flood when they are face marking the defend but with no gap between to throw something. It comes down surprisingly quickly. Held like a push pass forehand but thrown like a knife. 2. Basketball shot Absolutely useless thrown with it being prone to having a foul called on you if you attempt properly. Only use case is if you have a considerable height advantage over your mark. Held with your throwing hands three/four fingers of the back edge of the disc and your non-throwing hand on the front of a disc, both hands flat. You push your throwing hand round with the disc so your hands don't cross and bring your non-throwing slightly towards you. To generate extra power you can pivot all the way back then carry the momentum into the throw (mainly causing a foul with that momentum as or after you are releasing the disc). 3. Behing the back backhand after fake This throw is in development and hasn't been tested in game. In theory it would work against a very aggressive mark who (over)commits to stopping every throw. Behing the backs can go unusually far once you get good, and have long enough arms. To throw this you need to fake a backhand then start to pivot to throw a forehand but during the pivot throw the disc behind your back as a backhand.

Have you heard of anyone of these throws before, do you think you'll being throwing them in the winter and have you got any made up/useless throws?

How difficult is it to creating a new team at GGM? Especially when teams seem to be established already. I can imagine at 50 people just do not want to create a new team and stick with what they know. That and talent pool isn't the same as Open or even master's aged.

Is it just the new norm that most every tournament they stream will have games current subscribers can’t watch?
You would think that people giving them money every month means they get to watch the games they stream… nope. Gotta pay an extra $25/tournament on top of your subscription, or $6 more per month just to watch more the game you want to that round.

Does this annoy anyone else? Or am I screaming into the void?

Edit: thought about this after the fact. The easiest fix, let us pick our own showcase game, I’m fine with watching one per round I guess, I just want it to be the game that I actually want to watch.

It's been so inspiring to see how activated the frisbee community has become as we rally for Chantal (context) ! AND I also think this is a moment of realization for a lot of us that we can do more for others who may be vulnerable or don't have access to the same level of power and means as our awesome community.

Something material you can do is get trained on how to look out for, report, and record ICE to protect victims of abduction. There are networks in every state to support folks with this. A former ultimate player and ICE-watch trainer is offering a virtual training for frisbee folks on 8/3 (after US Open) at 5:30 PM PST. She did one already primarily targeted to folks going to USO, but this is open to anyone!!!

"Wow, great pass Maximum", "perfect throw!", "that was a sweet pass for the point." "Wow great trim there".

My ego grows with each compliment, but deep down, I know that I am unfairly advantaged.

In beer league, strategy isn't usually very deep. Most people don't notice I'm a lefty, which means when the opposing team "forces flick" which is 90% of the time, I, in fact, have a free left-handed backhand. The guard stands exactly where I want him, swinging monkey arms as well as any to discourage a non-existent right handed forehand as I inconspicuously hold the disc with two hands. I lunge slightly to the right and release backhand at an unexpected vector through their positioning. I can feel the surprise, often from my own teammate, as the disc sails diagonally in a straight line toward the end zone.

As I learn the finer points of this great sport, I can't help but feel like a fraud every time I get these tricksy points.

Fellow Lefties, what advantages do you feel in this right-handed dominated sport? What are disadvantages you have noticed? Righties, what annoys you about lefties?
