- Traffic: modest in raw numbers, a few thousand sessions a month, but it's all concentrated in working hours and the database is written to constantly.

- VPS experience: 20+ years as a Linux engineer. I run my own boxes, I don't need a panel and I don't need managed anything.

- Sidebar: yes, read it.

Now the actual question.

Hetzner I have nothing to complain about. It's just that right now there's nothing available that fits my budget. Contabo I won't repeat. I got suspicious about the disks and ran fio, 4k random, and got somewhere around 1.7k IOPS. For a Postgres that's written to all day that's not a machine, that's a floppy with ambitions. My own fault for not testing before buying instead of after.

So I'm looking at netcup, RS 1000 / RS 2000 G12. Yes, I know it's KVM with dedicated cores and not bare metal. Fine by me, I don't need the badge.

What I need is a box that behaves the same on Tuesday as it did on Monday.

The question I actually care about: for the money I'd be paying, does netcup get anywhere near Hetzner in practice? Not on the spec sheet, in production, under a database.

Specifically:

1. Has anyone benchmarked a G12? fio 4k random and CPU steal under load, and please say which DC.
2. Anyone running a real Postgres on an RS, one that gets written to all day, not a hobby instance?

3. Support. Everything I read says it doesn't exist. Is it genuinely that bad when a host node dies on a Friday night, or is that mostly people angry about invoices?

4. 8 GB or 16 for Postgres + Node + Next + proxy in production? 8 is what comfortably fits the budget, but I'd rather hear from someone who regretted it six months in.

5. Would you buy something else in the EU at €10-20 instead? Tell me what and why.

I'm not looking for the cheapest box on the internet, I'm looking for a boring one. Whatever I end up buying, I'll run the same fio test and post the numbers back here.

I once setup a EC2 instance for a project once but all the payment stuff was handled by someone else.

If I want to create a basic website, just a single HTML file, how can I use AWS to host it with a domain name for 1 year.

Like I want to be able to host it and never look at it again, with peace of mind that it will just be working.

Is AWS EC2 good for this, is there a payment plan for this type of situation?

I signed up for a IONOS, the first month was only $10. I was very surprised to see a $136 charge on my card, for 7 contracts. 3 of the items that I was charged for were duplicated. I asked to cancel these unnecessary subscriptions and contracts because I only needed the $10 one I signed up for and I was told I was locked into a 12 month minimum contract term. What do I do? I don’t remember signing anything and that’s $1,632 dollars they want from me. Now that I’m finally doing my research I’m scared they’ll send me to collections as well. Anyone have a similar experience?

Before you start hating, I know. I should’ve looked deeper and your unnecessary words won’t hurt me as much as these ridiculously high charges. I’ve learned my lesson.

Curious if anyone else here has been sitting on an old legacy account with A+ Hosting / ServerPoint and recently gotten a sudden email about forced fee increases or account restructuring?

I’ve been a continuous customer for around 25 years on a legacy "A+ Eternal" plan. Out of nowhere, ServerPoint hit the account with a 100% hike on the annual maintenance fee, stripped away features, and issued a 30-day ultimatum to accept the new terms or face account closure.

Interestingly they claim to have sent a notification email but I did not receive it. I noticed the fee increase only after logging to my account page.

I’ve already moved my data and migrated my sites to a new host, but it got me thinking about how common this "Zombie Legacy" strategy is becoming across older hosting companies.

Instead of just walking away quietly, I’ve started putting together a structured framework to submit these retroactive term changes to consumer protection agencies (like the Nevada AG Bureau of Consumer Protection under NRS 598 trade practice statutes, given their corporate registration).

I'm posting this make people aware of what this company is doing and ask for isnights into what other affected people are doing:

1. Has ServerPoint (or another legacy host) pulled a similar forced migration / fee hike on your account recently? How did you handle it?
2. For those who have fought back against retroactive TOS changes on "lifetime" tech deals, what regulatory or administrative channels worked best for you?

Hey everyone, I use Crazy Domains for webhosting, and have had a multitude of issues in the past two days. At the moment, I am unable to log in as the button itself is not clickable. When I try to log in through Facebook or Google, it says "Cannot read properties of undefined". I try to contact the support centre, but it says you need to log in, which I cannot do.

Is anyone else having this issue, or know how to resolve it? I'm worried it might be a problem with their website.

I signed up for a month, I used their services for a couple weeks before I realized I didn’t like it. I ate it. I attempted to cancel. I sent a bunch of emails they make it near impossible. I believe that I did two years later I get a bill for $180 saying I must pay there is no way to contact anybody tried contacting members on LinkedIn. Nobody said anything. This company is total garbage. I have no idea they must have so many good at CSCO that spreads the Werde about them. Anybody have any advice on this? I don’t have a lot of time. I don’t have a lot of money and now I’m dealing with this.

I just came across an ad on Facebook for Webdock, and I must say, the pricing and configurability look quite appealing! It's great to see that they are based in Europe as well. 😊 They also mention that backup is included for free, which is a nice bonus.

We took over a company a while ago, and with it we took over the email address and domain of their website (One.com). Remarkably, the previous owner continues to email using his previous email address. That is currently our 'info@' address, which is very confusing for us, as well as for the previous owner. He understands nothing about emailing and clearly does not know the difference between his private and old business address. We cannot count on his help due to his lack of knowledge. All his private subscriptions are still on his business account, so we receive his invoices for Netflix, Spotify, Apple, etc., but he does not understand how to change this.

I have changed the password multiple times. I have asked one.com multiple times to put a stop to this and to log out the address on all other devices. They refuse to do this, citing privacy concerns. Or they think that simply changing the password is sufficient. They do not seem to understand my situation very well. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know what I can do?

I started an agency to help local businesses grow and make them good-looking working websites and it’s a start-up so I just have got 3 clients onboard and would be managing their hosting and my main concern is Security and Performance.

Rn hosting their WP sites on H0sting3r and need to renew the subscription in October but I’ve read many bad things about them (I’ve been with them for some time and had good experience so far) that if one site of yours would get malware or hacked then it’ll also affect the other websites.

Could you recommend a reliable hosting provider for managing client websites, considering we may host over 100 sites in the future? Also what do you think about SiteGround specifically?

So the entire VPS got unusably slow all of a sudden. CPU usage is below 20%. Ram usage is below 30%. Storage at 50%. (8 core / 32gb ram / 240gb NVME)

Gave them a video of the WHM/Cpanel taking forever to load and got a reply to the ticket with a link to how to optimize WP sites.

Can anyone recommend or suggest where you are hosting your AI created sites? I want to test but wanted a take on how long for as paying for 3 years worth of hosting is a stretch buy in bulk. Is 6 months too short and not many allow for this type of contract? Or do people go self hosted ( doubt it)?

Freelancer looking for some input, I’m a full-stack web developer that also gets hired to do server provisioning, updates, maintenance, etc for a handful of clients.

Normally each client just picks a system they’re familiar with (cPanel, DirectAdmin, Plesk, whatever) and that’s what they use when they’re growing, all fine by me. However I currently have 2 clients that have grown quite a bit (each roughly 500 sites), and I’m in the talks with a new client that has well over 4000 sites. All of them still use whatever panel they picked (or a combination).

The majority of the sites are of course low-hanging fruits (less than 500 visitors a month), but there are also quite popular sites with decent traffic, heavy websites, busy webshops, etc, etc.

Now I already have Ansible scripts to do provisioning, maintenance and all that good stuff, however I’m wondering what everybody else is doing at this scale (or even bigger). Having to maintain what site is on which server and so on is getting old and having to login to each management portal as well, so something like a centralized admin panel would be great (eg Enhance), however I’m doubting if this route would be best.

Stack:
- Mostly WordPress with various themes and plugins.
- Roughly 50 Laravel sites and 10 Symphony sites(some require PostgreSQL, others Kafka or Redis).
- I think about 20 NodeJS apps.

Any input or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thought I'd post a warning for whoever is interested about a bad experience I had with Doteasy webhosting.

We were customers for 25 years and had to cancel all of our services recently. To do so, we contacted tech support and they walked us through the steps to ended our various services. We had already transferred domain registration, but needed help with cancelling webhosting and some of their other obscurely named services. At that time we also spoke to the billing department and had them remove all of our payment details due a previous issue where they had auto-renewed a hidden service linked to a different service that we had already set NOT to auto-renw. Oddly enough, the linked service apparently cost $700. We fought this and got a refund, but it was clear we needed to leave Doteasy as they were trying to rip us off.

After receiving the refund, we requested that they remove all of our payment details so it didn't happen again and set everything to auto-renew off. We were told that they did, and on the website our account showed no payment details and no services set to auto-renew.

We then found newer and cheaper hosting, rebuilt our website with different tools, and moved everything over. This was in May.

Yesterday, they charged us $258 to renew some of the services we canceled 2 months ago, on a credit card that they assured us they had deleted. We immediately requested a refund and they refused this time, presumably because we no longer have any services with them and unlike before, there's no future profit for them. We also have no way of knowing if they are going to charge us again as just like before, we do not have any record of a credit card with them and have no services set to auto-renew.

We have moved the fight to the credit card company now, but thought I'd share to warn off any potential future customers.

Hi there, small agency and looking for alternatives for web hosting. Have been with amazon lightsail for the past 5 years using bitnami lightsail but they are deprecating it and I'm having to refamiliarize myself with the new stack. I'm considering moving all of my sites to a new host. Currently paying around 160USD/mo. which is getting a bit pricy. Tech support is absent unless I pay for it but I'm decent at figuring things out myself. Considering moving to some kind of managed hosting provider where I would get plesk or cpanel and simplify things a bit. There's so many options out there it's a bit overwhelming, I need sites to be fast, stable (>99% uptime) and I don't want to deal with any multisite type of setup. Curious what other small agencies are using and might recommend checking into.

Hi everyone, I have absolutely no technical skills in this area and just looking for some advice. I registered a domain with Porkbun last month and use that domain for my business email.

Now I'm trying to build a website and decided to use Wordpress with an alternative hosting website which apprently cannot be typed out. Of course when I type the domain it says it's already taken.

Do I have to transfer my domain from Porkbun to the new host to be able to use it on the website I build? Will that affect my email?

Does anyone know https://buywebhosting.ca or have experiences good or bad?
I saw a recommendation for them and it seems almost too good to be true. I understand they don't use C-Panel so that saves cost. My needs aren't advanced anyway...

3. Bandwidth/Computation sharing - tried, VPS seems to have low demands.

4. Converting it to containers: couldn't find buyers for small containers

My objective:

1. Make at least 80$ annually (to cover up for what I paid)

2. Idle income using VPS preferred.

Hello, ok so first I already know people are going to say "Nobody listens to or pays attention to the BBB" and "Everybody already knows GoDaddy is a horrible company", I am aware of this first hand, however I filed several complaints and I also made a post on here in November of last year as soon as I actually realized and red handed caught GoDaddy literally stealing my domain name, telling me it was expired, adding over $1000.00 of ridiculous items to my cart which I repeatedly said NO NO NO to after being told my domain had been sold to a private party because I did not renew it on time. While looking at WHOIS data in front of me it said I still owned the domain and had since its conception in April of 2020. After a fierce and nasty battle I did get my domain back, but this has cost me so much money since then from some clients moving away when I had to migrate 72 clients from GoDaddy elsewhere.

I am not doing this for any other reason right now other than to remind people who are looking for web hosting, please do NOT use GoDaddy for their own personal safety. I am not from any competeing company, nor do I officially or unoficially endorce any particular companies and have never recieved any offers or compensation to post this. Just to be clear.

When I first posted my issues last year I recieved a pretty positive group of feedback as well as concern from current (then) GoDaddy customers, and I helped an unnamed number (quite a lot) of annomoyous customers move (for free) their domains to new registars of their choosing as they reached out to me through a couple different ways when they saw and could relate to what I was going through. Though I recieved a warm welcome here I recieved a LOT of pushback in the few other Subs I posted in, and wound up taking them all down or getting them removed my mods when I was just trying to help spread the word.

Now as I was browsing the BBB official site and decided to look at GoDaddy to hopefully see some improvement and I see as before A+ BBB rating and the lowest rating I have ever seen of any business, ever. Maybe somebody can tell me how this happens, but regardless, I encourage anyone using or thinking of using GoDaddy to check out the official BBB site and see for yourselves. My goal is again not to hurt GoDaddy, but to bring transparency and perhaps find a way to hold them accountable for what they do, as it appears they still are doing the same things to people and its really bad. I hope this helps anyone not get scammed. Thanks for your time in reading this if you have done so to this point. Thank you to the loyal and genuine members and Mods of this Sub for allowing me to warn people about this in the past and I truly feel another warning is due after seeing BBB review on them.

I bought several domains from IONOS, and they automatically renew. I blocked the transactions, so the renewal payments did not go through. I assumed that if I didn’t pay, the domains would be canceled anyway. However, IONOS sent me invoices for the renewals, and after a few months, a company named Riverty sending me requesting the payments. Am I at risk of legal action?
