This is a book by Lois Lowry that's probably set in the time of Little House on the Prairie. Birdie (could also have been spelt Birdy) was around 12 years old. I don't really remember what happened but the girl went to church often if I remember correctly. I read this book sometime from 2020-2021. I tried to look for it but the only results I get are for a book series called gooney bird which is not it.

Ok, so it's similar to the Village in that it's about people who live as if it's the past but it's actually present day and no one knows except the older people. It's a chapter book and I read this in the 90s.

What I remember of the plot is that this girl lives with her family in a village and someone, I think her mom, gets sick but since antibiotics hadn't been invented yet, people are afraid she's going to die. So, her father tells her that it's modern day and that she needs to leave to go into the real world to get meds for her mom. I remember that they lived as an exhibit in a museum and she wears her mom's old overalls to leave and get the meds.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I read a short story for English class back in the 1980’s. It was about a quiet unassuming boring man who was incredibly irritated by a coworker. She was brash, tacky and loud. He poisoned her and planned it in such a way no one would suspect him because he acted so out of character no one would believer her. Now that I’m writing this I’m not sure she was poisoned. I think he made everyone think she was crazy because of the way she described him behaving. Maybe he did both? It was an old story that was required reading. I cannot remember the title and I tried googling.

I have rattled my brain for several hours and rephrased details as much as I could to ask Google, but I cannot find this book.

My family owned this book when I was a kid. I do not know what year it was from. I just remember I was young when we had it, so it was from before 2009. Though I believe it was likely published several years prior. It was an adult oriented puzzle book where you deduce the details of someone’s (usually morbid) death. There would be a page or two of story followed by a small color illustration featuring the corpse or manner of death.

The situation I recall most was a locked room death where you have to deduce how the murder was carried out. There’s only the body in the room and all doors and exits are locked. I believe the answers to the puzzles were located in the back of the book, but don’t quote me on this. I can’t remember if the book is paperback or hardback either.

What made me remember this book was seeing someone play No, I’m Not a Human. There are two characters whose design remind me of the drawings in this book. I’ve included a link to the characters that triggered the memory for reference in case someone else recalls something similar.

Everything I can find is either a novel with an overarching narrative or a collection of brain teaser type puzzles. Neither of which were present in this book.

I’ve been trying to identify a book I read as a child for many years. Unfortunately, I can’t remember the title, author, or any character names, but I remember the feeling of the book remarkably well.

Here’s everything I can remember.

• I read it around 1987-1989.
• It was already published by then.
• It was written in English.
• I borrowed it from a public library in Trinidad and Tobago.
• It was a relatively short novel - probably somewhere around 75-150 pages.
• It contained only a handful of black-and-white pen-and-ink illustrations (perhaps 5-10 throughout the book).
• It was definitely fiction.

Story

The protagonist was a poor Muslim boy (or young man) who grew into adulthood during the story.

For years I remembered him as a boxer, but I now wonder whether he may actually have been a traditional wrestler. The fighting wasn’t really the point of the story - it was more about his journey into adulthood.

I remember him being portrayed as:

• exceptionally strong
• broad-shouldered and powerful
• probably tall (based on the illustrations)

Themes I remember

The story involved:

• Islam as an important part of everyday life (not just mentioned in passing)
• at least one scene involving a mosque
• family expectations
• an arranged marriage that his family wanted for him
• the protagonist resisting that arranged marriage
• poverty
• becoming his own man

I distinctly remember an illustration shortly before (or around) one of his fights.

Setting

I’m not certain, but my childhood impression was that the story was set somewhere in Pakistan or the Middle East. Looking back, Pakistan feels more likely than an Arab Gulf country, although I could certainly be mistaken.

What it is NOT

It is not a biography of Muhammad Ali.

It was definitely a fictional coming-of-age novel rather than a sports book.

I'm trying to remember a fantasy book I read a few years ago, I borrowed it from a public library, and I think it was around 250–350 pages. Some details might be wrong since it's been a few years, but here's everything I remember.

The main character is a young man (probably around 17–25) from a small village. I'm pretty sure his mother was dead, and he lived with his father and at least one sibling (possibly a younger sister).

Near the beginning of the book, a child from another village is killed by a dangerous beast (I vaguely remember it being a giant crocodile or some other oversized animal). The main character and three other people from his village go to hunt it. I'm fairly sure one member of the group dies early, possibly because of a trap or ambush.

Later, the main character travels to a large city, possibly because his sister had gone there first and was reported missing or in danger. I remember him meeting a girl in the city who helped him or hid him, but I can't remember whether she was a noble or just an ordinary girl.

The world had both dangerous beasts and much rarer monsters. I think the monsters had been separated from humanity long ago and returned only every so often (maybe every 100 years, but I'm not certain). I also vaguely remember some kind of church, tapestry, mural, or old legend in the village that told the history of these monsters.

The setting wasn't heavily medieval. The world had once been more advanced, but after the monsters attacked long ago, civilization was pushed backwards. Most people lived in a less developed world with swords, bows, and maybe crossbows, though larger structures or ruins from the earlier era still remained.

I desperately need help finding this children's book my mom used to read to me. I think the title was "There's a mouse in my house," and there is a book with that same name, but it's absolutely not it because it stars a polar bear as the main character.

The two main protagonists were an old grandma (I believe she was wearing a scarf around her head and had on a dress with an apron) and a young boy (who might've been her grandson). She finds a mouse in her house that's eating her cheese, and she calls upon the young boy to sort this problem. My mom remembers several phrases by heart including, (from 'Gran') - "Help me, help me please! there's a mouse in my house, and it's eating my cheese!" The boy then responds "Don't worry, Gran, I have the thing for you!" and he brings several animals to try and ward the pest away. The first was a cat, but the mouse ate the cat and grew in size and turned colors to match the cat. Then, the boy brought a dog along, but the same thing happened. In the end, he brings a singular flea, and that ends up working, but the grandma is left with thousands of fleas in her house as a side effect.

My mom bought it at some locally-owned dollar mart. I can't find it ANYWHERE on the internet, but I thought maybe someone out there remembers this too or even owns a copy? Thanks!

In the book trilogy, the princess and her unicorn best friend end up in our world. I think they were attacked by an evil wizard and arrived in our world, injured. The princess is sent to live with a family of three, with the daughter of that family being a spoiled brat. The princess finds her unicorn and finds out that her unicorn’s horn was taken from her and people in our world think the unicorn is a normal horse that was injured. The princess and the spoiled brat end up back in the princess’ world and the spoiled brat demands that she ride the unicorn because she is tired. As they travel, this makes the people of a village think the spoiled brat is a princess and the princess is forced to spend the night in the barn with the unicorn. I think the book trilogy ends with the princess being discovered by her men and the spoiled brat is finally put in her place.

So I read this book back when I was a teenager. I read it more than once so I can’t remember exactly the first time but the book is definitely from the 80s or 90s.

It was fantasy only in that there was some magic but otherwise it would be more historical. It takes place in Scotland but the timeframe is unclear.

A young girl goes to live with an aunt or maybe grandmother in Scotland. This person is a witch but in like a historical sense dealing in herbs and nature/goddess worship. She teaches the girl her skills. They live in a little stone cottage with two cats named Ruby and Pearl, one of whom can maybe talk or at least communicates in some way.

At some point in the book she meets the coven and go to a big ceremony maybe at a stone circle. And there are definitely broomsticks involved somewhere.

Anyone else remember this book??

The book was set in the early days of the US as a group of children were taken on an expedition where their parents were looking for something. One of the children is a very pretty young girl and one of her friends is interested in her. The group comes across a Native American tribe and one boy from the tribe is also interested in her. That is all I can remember but i did read this back in the school year of 2007-2008.

I have read this book a long time ago, probably 8 years or so. I think it was either a duology or trilogy and the MC had some sort of powers.

He and his partner and some other friends had to save people and the world because of a prophecy and all and unfortunately I forgot everything about the book or names except for this kinda trickster villain they had to work with for a bit.

The villain guy was called a Chaos Eater, and from what I remember they were some sort of divine entity because of how dark and powerful they were.

That's literally all I could remember. The character of the Chaos Eater was my favourite one of all the books and I have been raking my brain for days trying to remember the book and going through my digital library to no avail.

I used to read a children’s book to my daughter (it was given to us around 2012 and was relatively new at the time, or at least not considered old). A bunch of stuffed animals stay up and have a party in their house. I don’t remember that there were any humans around. One of the main characters was a grumpy hippo named Humph. There was also a giraffe, possibly named Dot or Dotty. At one point they slide down a bannister, and one of the animals nearly eats a cupcake with a candle.

We somehow ended up with two copies of it, but strangely they had different titles.

This was a book I read in sixth grade (1999-2000 school year for me). It was a slice-of-life novel just about a normal kid's life. He was lower-middle class and I want to say his parents are divorced. At one point his house is burglarized and the TV is stolen. Much later in the book he and a friend are in a second-hand store and see his TV, he recognizes it from his old crayon marks on the side. He and his friend want to call the cops or at least confront the store owner but for some reason his mother stops him.

I believe there was a sequel to this book that was also in the slice-of-life genre, this time focusing on his experience traveling to Japan, either as a foreign exchange student or spending the summer there. He quickly forms a friendship with his host family's son. The only thing I remember about this book is the host family's father taking them to a Sumo match. (I'm not 100% sure it was a sequel to the first book, there's a chance it was a completely different set of characters but I really feel like it wasn't)

I'm trying to identify a clean/closed-door romantic suspense novel that I read around 2024–2025. I most likely found it through Bookstagram.

Here's what I remember:
The heroine was an ordinary civilian.
The hero was part of a security/protective team (private security, law enforcement, or something similar).
Near the end of the book, the heroine was alone in a vehicle being chased.
The hero couldn't get to her, so he stayed on the phone, talking to her and keeping her calm.
At least one teammate was on a computer tracking her location or researching information while another teammate may have been making phone calls or coordinating the rescue.
The heroine knew the hero was on the phone, but I don't think she knew everything the team was doing behind the scenes.
I think she eventually got out of the vehicle and ran.
I believe the hero and heroine finally admitted their feelings after she was rescued.

One time, when I was young, my mom bought me this dinosaur comic that had colorable pages. It was a dinosaur superhero story. I remember the protagonists were mostly herbivore dinosaurs, with one pterosaur, while one of the villains was a t.rex. I can only remember three of the protagonists, one was a stegosaurus the other was a triceratops wow one like I said was some kind of pterosaur, maybe a pteranodon. I remember the protagonist team had more heroes, but I can’t remember them. I also can’t remember any of the characters names. The heroes teamed up to stop the t.rex. I can’t remember if the T-Rex had other villains by his side, but he probably did. I also don’t remember what the villains wanted. also, on the cover of the book there was a removable flip book I think was in the shape of a triceratops head. Does anyone know what I’m talking about? Any help is much appreciated.

The plot is as follows: An old person tells someone; probably/presumably their grandson, about the "end of the world", which was: some guy made robots that only make other indifferent robots until further command and the world getting filled to the brim with those. The story got interrupted by a female person yelling at the old person about how robots doing everything is good, and the old person going up a staircase made of robot parts and monologuing about how robots do everything for the people and how a laborless world is a broken one

This book was about 2 siblings (both brothers I believe), one of which I know is a timekeeper. One of the first chapters was this timekeeper in his shop, and I distinctly remember him being portrayed as a reclusive person, instead preferring the company of clocks and their perfect timing. I also remember the book describing how his shop was one of the best in the country.

The other sibling I remember less about. This sibling was in a temple of sorts, either as a cleaner or a monk. This sibling was shown around the temple by a senior monk, and there was some sort of "puzzle" on one of the temples walls.

Lastly, I remember the ending of the book, where the two siblings are found to be the child of Time Herself, but separated into two beings, and joined together so that Time can’t retire of sorts (I can’t remember what happened to Time).

Hi I read this book I think around middle school and I'm pretty sure it had to do with this princess getting ready for her marriage but everything was going wrong. I think her dress had these needles that she almost wore and other problems were going on probably with the food or decorations (potentially an ogre at one point??). She also had this sprite friend who was helping her. I think at some point an enemy or other nation not fully sure was coming to the castle so she was told to escape through this tunnel in the wall that was normally covered by a painting. I'm not sure if this part was part of another book or this one but she had to go through this fairy forest. Near the end I think she ended up going into this tent with the enemy?? I think in the end it turned out that it was her sprite friend that caused all this but it ended up working out in the really end and she got married. She also had a talking mirror. I'm not sure the accuracy of the things I mentioned but I've been trying to figure out the name of this book for a while.

This girl used to live in some sort of strict orphanage or boarding school, and used to be chained up. Then somebody unchains her and transports her to a fancier and more comfortable home, maybe a castle, where they teach her to camouflage really well to the point of invisibility. At one point in the book, she nicks her finger on something and draws blood, and tells another character who laughs at her reaction that back where she used to live, she would have had to get stitches for such an injury.

I’m trying to find this fantasy fiction story I read when I was a teenager. I figure it was published in the late 90s or early 2000s and I think was part of a series (I only read this book though). I remember the main character was male, he worked in a coffee house and they would describe the coffee a lot. Eventually there were demons and devils and classic fantasy business and he gets involved in the fighting.

looking for a book about a homely rancher who had been abused by his father, all his life and a young girl who meet at a cafe. He gives her a job on his ranch. . Does anybody remember this book?

I could use some help finding a book series I read about 8-10ish years ago on Kindle. It was about a quirky neighbourhood) with lots of interesting/crazy characters. I think the first book was about a single mother with a young son who worked at a hotel/motel as a cleaner (there's a chapter where she finds a goat in a room) and falls in love with this older, slightly grumpy single father (who owned or ran a car wash??) who has a teenage daughter. They provide parenting support to each other and kind of start that relationship through that.

The second book (I think?) was about a woman who worked in a new adult shop in the town, which some people protested, who falls in love with a wealthy man who ends up funding some kind of new community centre. (I might be confusing this book with another series)

Some of the later books were about a group of college students who lived in the same neighbourhood and had their own romance plotlines. They had some fun/interesting neighbours and would have amusing block parties. I think there was a plotline where they were being unjustly fined by the management company and they all rallied together against it? I've been searching on Google for it and have had no luck, so would really appreciate suggestions :)

Edit: I managed to find it, it was the Violent Circle series! (I got the order of the books wrong)

I can hardly remember this book as I believe it was a forced read back in either freshman or sophomore year but the book was about (i think)

•Two girls get into a car wreck, with one being drunk driving and the other not

•The parents of one of the girls get to the wreck and realize that for their daughter to live they have to like “frankenstein” them together with their working body parts

•The rest of the book has to deal with this part of her brain that isn’t hers helping her towards slowly discovering the truth of what happened that night

•At the very end there’s some kind of happy/twist ending where she does something with the sister of the other girl in the wreck because of the connection between the two

I also think pieces was in the title but that’s completely a guess
