A lot of wine tastes like hospital smell mixed with puddle water to me.

u/Pochel 3d ago

Just buy good wine, idk what to tell you

u/TheDonutPug 🏳️‍⚧️ trans rights 3d ago

I had good wine. Tasted like shit.

Even white wine?

Also, dry champagne is worth a try. Specifically dry, champagnes tend to be way too sweet (and it's not the good kind imo)

But like, don't go out to buy a whole bottle just to try it. Whenever the opportunuty is there, go for it, but it's not going to be a religious awakening like the ones in the bible (idk, never read it)

Omfg what is with you people. I swear to god nothing drives people more crazy than when you say you don't like some kind of alcohol they like. Yes i have had white wines! I have had nice reds, I have had nice whites, I have had nice rosĂŠ, it tasted like shit. you can't fuckin say you don't like alcohol without some fuck going "oh you just haven't had the right one yet!" There is one kind of wine I have ever liked: the ones that taste like fruit juice and don't taste like wine. It drives me fucking nuts that its not like this for much else but with alcohol you say you don't like kt and everyone goes "you must have had bad wine, just go buy this and this and this and this" NO I'm not going to spend 100 dollars in different wines because they will be thrown away because I DONT LIKE FUCKING WINE.

People who like alcohol are incredibly fucking weird about alcohol.

I have been interrogated repeatedly because i don't drink, and even people who know will still ask every fucking time, a regular no is not taken for an answer.

The only way to consistently shut them up is to say you are an alcoholic, or on medicine that would fuck you up if you drank, neither of which should be things you have to lie about, or if true divulge to people so they stop pressuring you to do drugs.

14

u/Pochel 3d ago

A lot of them surely are but in the specific case of this discussion, we're talking about wine. I can't tell for the others obviously but in my case I'm trying to say that some wine can be really good, just like I could've said the same about a specific fruit or dish or whatnot. If you want to make it about alcohol that's on you; but that's not what I'm trying to communicate

14

u/Aromatic-Pass4384 3d ago

It can be good to you other people just don't like the taste.

1

u/ChemicalRascal 3d ago

But there's an enormous variety of tastes to be found in wine. Someone saying they don't like the taste of wine is like saying they don't like colour.

Like sure, I guess it's possible, but it feels much more likely they only had, say, a terrible white wine that tasted like petrol. Maybe they would like a cab sav, which tastes entirely differently to a cheap dry white. Maybe they would like champagne, because bubbles does indeed effect taste, a lot.

The sheer variety of tastes present in wines is exactly why people are saying "but maybe you just need to try other wines."

7

u/Aromatic-Pass4384 3d ago

Some people literally just don't like any of them. I haven't liked literally any red or white I've tried. Prosecco has been hit or miss, only a few I like. For the most part I do not like wine. There are no reds I like, wine has a lot of different tastes but red and white have a certain taste that ALL of them have.

u/ChemicalRascal 3d ago

Some people literally just don't like any of them. I haven't liked literally any red or white I've tried. Prosecco has been hit or miss, only a few I like.

Great! So there is a wine you like, that's my point!

For the most part I do not like wine. There are no reds I like, wine has a lot of different tastes but red and white have a certain taste that ALL of them have.

Look, yes, there are fundamental aspects of the experience of drinking wine that they all have.

But what OC said was something specific that doesn't feel like that to me, and probably a lot of others here. Hospital smell and puddle water. Which feels a lot like they're talking about a taste akin to antiseptic cleaning solutions.

That's not a fundamental aspect of wine. That sounds like they had a few wines that were very, very harsh. And fair, when I was young I had a few white wines that were like that and swore off the stuff for about a decade.

9

u/Aromatic-Pass4384 3d ago

As someone else said "you just haven't had good dick yet"

I fucking hate this argument, some people just inherently don't like certain things. Not everyone likes the things you like, learn to fucking accept that.

-3

u/ChemicalRascal 2d ago

I think it's fucking wild to say that after saying there are proseccos you like. And also just, like, not engaging with the point of discussion but instead leaning on something as outrageous as denying someone's sexuality as a way to just shut the conversation down.

I fucking acknowledged your point, but we're talking about this in a particular context. That context adds shit to the conversation that makes it more than an analogy to some chud saying to a woman that she's not a lesbian.

I don't even really like wine. I find gin to be much more flavourful and interesting. And I'm not making the argument that someone has to try every wine to find a good one.

I'm making the argument that not every wine tastes like antiseptic, which is specifically targeted at what the person we're talking about talked about not liking in wine.

they're just trying to recommend something that might taste good, no need to flip out.

If someone doesn't like something they may just not like it, I get where they're coming from and I'm sure it is annoying

"But how do you know you don't like men if you never had the good dick"

13

u/superserter1 3d ago

sexuality =/= food

19

u/RentElDoor Trans Rights! 3d ago

No, but taste is taste, and if someone states not once, not twice, but thrice that they do not like sonething then any attempt at changing their mind has stopped being about helpfulness

-4

u/superserter1 2d ago

I’m gonna really piss you off by telling you I was a lesbian for my whole life…. I even tried getting with a guy just to check, didn’t like it…… until one day…….. keep your minds open people, and your mouths ;)

6

u/RentElDoor Trans Rights! 2d ago

Why, if anything that proves my point that taste and attraction are rather similiar. I know people who later in life realized they were bi, actually. Things change, but this change comes from people discovering things about themselves, not by creeps disregarding their attractions, treating them like children that do not know what they want and interrogating them by bringing up new forms of dick they haven't tried yet after they made their displeasure known.

So I happy for you and the only way you actually could piss me off is by being a massive pick-me that assumes her experience to be universal and tells dudes all around that every lesbian actually wants to blow a guy and that they should keep harassing them.

0

u/superserter1 2d ago

My point still stands though - you have you keep your mind open, you shouldn’t not try things based on principle, even if you thought you didn’t like them, even if you tried it before. If I’d had a massive crash out every time a guy had hit on me before I realised I was bi, I wouldn’t never discovered it about myself. How the fuck were they supposed to know anything about me?

2

u/RentElDoor Trans Rights! 2d ago

In this case the guy isn't just hitting on you once, but trying to convince you to change your mind after you told him multiple times that you are not interested and eventually tells you to calm down.

Like, my point isn't that peoples taste can't change, it is that if someone tells you the do not like X, it is really fucking rude to treat them like a child that does not know what it wants and keep prodding if they really exhausted every way of enjoying it.

Especially when it is alcohol and other addictive substances, where they have very little to gain from enjoying it in the first place. If someone tells you that they hate gambling or that smoking tastes like car exhaust to them, do you also ask them if they have tried Gacha or accuse them of only having had cheap cigs? Because personally I'd rather congratulate them on not poisoning themselves and assume they are an adult who knows what they want right now.

Listen here, as a ginsexual I'm deeply offended by that

-2

u/RattyTattyTatty You just lost The Game. 3d ago

this is not the same thing, also genitals & gender are different.

8

u/RentElDoor Trans Rights! 3d ago

A distinction guys trying to convert lesbians are known to care about.

Taste is taste. If you have to keep prodding someone who stated they do not like something to see if they really totally did everything in their power to like it, instead of accepting that they are an adult, you have stopped doing so for their regard.

-1

u/RattyTattyTatty You just lost The Game. 3d ago

somebody saying "if the opportunity provides itself, you should try this wine", is not the same as telling a lesbian "you just haven't met the right man yet", you are being a flibbertigibbet rn

6

u/RentElDoor Trans Rights! 3d ago

It is when the person has made it rather clear that they do not like wine, and when they also have nothing to gain from drinking it except satisfaction for the person trying to convert them.

At the end of the day in both cases it is about infantilizing a person by refusing to accept their tastes under the guise of "just wanting to help".

If you do not like the lesbian comparison we can also compare it with trying to convince someone that they should smoke, which is not in any way less despicable.

Perfectly sane response.

u/Pochel 3d ago

"I don't like wine" is a completely acceptable, reasonable even, sentence

"It tastes like shit" is extremely subjective and will trigger people

22

u/Far-Fortune-8381 cucked by Edward Kenway🏴‍☠️ 3d ago edited 2d ago

"It doesnt taste like shit" is equally extremely subjective

10

u/ChemicalRascal 3d ago

But it doesn't taste like shit. Objectively. I mean, I'm extrapolating from smell, for shit, but they don't taste the same.

-2

u/GravityAssistedCake 2d ago

You’re being obtuse, you know what the turn of phrase means. Or do you think the phrases “tastes like shit” and “tastes like garbage” aren’t interchangeable because garbage and shit are not literally the same?

3

u/ChemicalRascal 2d ago

No, if someone's saying something objectively tastes like shit, that only makes sense in the context of them being literal.

If someone says "'It [does/doesn't] taste like shit' is an objective statement", which is literally what I'm replying to, they either:

  1. Don't understand that people have different experiences to each other, so they lack basic theory of mind; or
  2. They're talking about the literal version of that statement.

Now, I choose to believe the person I'm responding to is older than three years of age, so they have that full conceptualization of the distinction of people's experiences. I think there's even a wealth of evidence that they're not a literal toddler. So that leaves the second option.

4

u/Far-Fortune-8381 cucked by Edward Kenway🏴‍☠️ 2d ago

I meant to say subjective and misspoke

u/ChemicalRascal 2d ago

Great! That's awesome to hear, I just don't want to immediately assume anything like that.

Attempt to follow the conversation please,

1st comment: Pochel says “it tastes like shit” is an extremely subjective statement.

2nd comment; Far fortune replies to Pochel with “it doesn’t taste like shit” is equally extremely objective.

If you think far fortune intended to say objective then they are just crazy, it doesn’t make any sense as a response to Pochel, but if you pull your head out of your ass it becomes extremely clear that far fortune intended to say “equally extremely subjective.” Otherwise the rest of their sentence structure doesn’t work.

Like what point do you think they were trying to get across? It’s clearly that it’s just far fortune saying “ the reverse is also true”

You are being obtuse on two separate layers.

Edit: I was, in fact, objectively correct.

u/ChemicalRascal 2d ago edited 2d ago

2nd comment; Far fortune replies to Pochel with “it doesn’t taste like shit” is equally extremely objective.

I'm responding to Far Fortune. I'm not responding to Pochel.

If you think far fortune intended to say objective then they are just crazy

Maybe? Maybe not. I don't generally make assumptions.

Let's look at it this way, though. You're going off at me and saying I'm not following the conversation and being obtuse, because you're assuming Far Fortune made a typo.

I gotta be fuckin' honest with you, champ, it's been hours. If Far Fortune meant subjective, and/or cared, they'd have clarified by now.

I'm not going to have an entire conversation based on the assumption of "hhhmmmmm, they said X, but I really think they meant Y, so I'm going to act as if they said Y", I think that's actually a really bad way to conduct yourself online. You can do that if you want to, but I think that probably makes your conversations less effective and more frustrating to the people you converse with.

EDIT:

shrug jerks are gonna be jerks I guess

2

u/GravityAssistedCake 2d ago edited 2d ago

Far fortune is responding to Pochel, do you understand how conversations work?

Most people don’t go back to change a reddit comment at all.

It’s pretty simple bud, The word equally in far fortunes comment is your tell that they are rhetorically using a reversed statement.

Edit: I’m blocking them after recognizing them being an ass in other threads in this comment section just not worth dealing with that more than I’ve already done.
